This seems now like a late time to bring up this question, but I just wondered if anyone had an opinion. I just ordered some CDs off Amazon with a gift card I got for my birthday, and I decided against getting the more value-conscious split Ozma/Gluey Porch Treatments for the newer Ipecac release of Gluey Porch Treatments because I thought they might have digitally remastered it or it would be better sound quality because they decided to re-release it as just Gluey Porch Treatments so many years after the split CD came out. Is there any truth to that, like was it digitally remastered or something?

I also, like that other person here, just recently bought the Pelican E.P., pretty much solely based on the reviews on Amazon. I'm looking forward to that.

I also recently bought the new Earth album  :!: (Dissolution III) which I haven't seen anyone mention here, although maybe I missed it. For whatever reason they were selling it at Borders (one copy). So far it's pretty cool, but it's not really a proper record. It has one live track which seems kind of boring although I've barely listened to it really, and one non-live track which is very cool and heavy, and it's got a really great distortion sound on the guitar (to me). Sorry if I'm repeating something others have already said. I actually had to look it up on their computer at the store when I picked up the CD because I thought maybe it was a trick and it was some new band that was also called Earth so I made sure they it was actually an Earth record before I bought it since the CD itself wasn't  giving away much.

Earth lost me after Earth 2.... it is the best album ever to try to put you to sleep while driving on a long trip.

I thought that new earth album is just remix shit and what not?

I'm not fond of Pelican, although everyone seems to be.

Good choice with the Gluey Porch Treatments definately..... You get a bunch of songs that aren't on the split. I believe it's the same if you got Ozma alone.

There are 2 new Earth albums just out. The one that Alvin's referring to is called "Living In The Gleam of the Unsheathed Sword" ("Dissolution III" is the name of the first track on it) and is on Troubleman/Megablade records. It consists of 2 tracks, the first a radio session, and the 2nd a long (almost 1hr) live track. There's been a bit of fuss about it, as it seems that the record company involved were ripping people off a bit - e.g. the vinyl version only had about 15mins of the live track on it! The CD version is good, but nothing spectacular.

The other new one is called "Legacy of Dissolution" and is on No Quarter (with Vinyl forthcoming on Southern Lord). This is the remix album. Haven't heard it yet, so can't comment on it, but looks good. Remixes are by Autechre, Sunn O))), Russell Haswell, Jim O'Rourke, Mogwai and Justin Broadrick.

Pelican is good. You may like it. My fave Earth is the first album Extra-Capsular Extraction. It's the most fleshed out with bass and drum machine, not so much droney type stuff. Pentastar-In The Style of Demons, is a good one too!

Yah, the first and second albums are good. But I was listening the the third one today (quite a coincidence, because I haven't listened to it in over a year)...and it just sucks. Sorry. But the first and second are pretty good, especially the first.

The Ipecac re-release sounds like it was remastered. It's noticeably louder and crisper. But I wouldn't think too much about it, since you're going to end up buying the Ozma/G.P.T. split anyway. Trust me, once G.P.T. gets its hooks into you, Ozma will be on your list. (Don't forget Eggnog and Bullhead, too.)

I loved GPT but detested Ozma cause of the production values. is that odd?

Alvin

No actually that's an interesting point to bring up. There are certain albums that are singularly less enjoyable than they otherwise could be because of how crappy the production sounds. For instance the first Foo Fighters album was in my opinion their best album but it sounded pretty bad and I think Sonic Youth's Dirty was really messed up by the production. For the most part I really like what Butch Vig can do, but that Dirty album sounded pretty bad to me. I love how the drums sound on certain records, like on Pentastar and on the Pixies' Surfer Rosa.

Speaking of Pelican, there are some really cool photos of 'em on this website. Maybe you already know it since I can't remember where I know this website from, maybe I got it from this forum.
