Their first? That means you should get their latest.

But to be honest, Houdini or Stoner Witch would be good albums to start with.

Leroy

First, pick up Bullhead, Houdini,  then Ozma, but wait till after you buy all their good albums until you get Colosus of Destiny.  get COD LAST

AlmightyRetard

Start with downloading these songs: Spread Eagle Beagle, Shit Storm, Cottonmouth.....Then go buy COD.

No seriously, go get H.A.T, Maggot or Bullhead! Now!
I like fucking corpses

Beto Brasil

Quote from: DudbeanHoudini and Stoner Witch are both very good and easy to find. They're also the cheapest albums to buy, for some reason. They're good introductions to what will soon be your favourite band.

I concur. Buy these first youngblood.

Branch Breaker

Lysol. More Lysol. Also known as self-titled.
Rectum? Damn near killed 'im!

Honey Bucket is one of the best Melvins songs ever recorded.

Vcavallo

honey bucket is good.  but i think the melvins are best when they aren't relying on pure speed and frenzy to make their songs good.

stag is a really really good albun.  maybe as a second or third, probably not first.
what kinda of music do you already listen to?  that would be a pretty good cue as to what album you should get.  they have alot and each one has a very different feel and style.  depending on what music you already enjoy, i would suggest one of theirs that is most like that.

anyway.  once you listen to an album a few times, you will realize that the sounds going into your head are completely out of this world in all ways, and that the music is literally alive with its very own interesting personality, and you will become desperately in love with Teh Melvins.

but at first you'll hate them.

don't buy Crybaby first.  i made that mistake, but after that one I bought Houdini, Stag, Stoner Witch, Ozma, etc...  Then after a while i went back and listened to the Crybaby, and got into it a little more.  (The Crybaby is ok.  It has it's ups and downs.  Just wait a while before you buy it because it's mostly cover songs.)

Smellis

The Melvins have kind of had three transitions, Pre-Atlantic, Atlantic, Ipecac. All of it is good to me, but I suggest Bullhead for the newbie. I'm not even saying it's my favorite, but it would make a good first impression, and it's a classic.

Go with Houdini or Hostile Ambient Takeover.

And give them patience, they are the sort of albums that grow on you,.
