You nailed it 100% Pastor of Muppmaster. The Melvins are still around because they are true to their craft and don't give a shit about what the masses think of their music. The Melvins continue to be on the front edge of all that is relevent and it will be more apparent as time continues.............Big Biz Melvins is next.......damn that is gonna be sweet.......Jared and Cody of Big Biz are very worthy of the chance to meld with the Melvins. Look at it this way, Buzzo and Dale are getting F'ing old just like the rest of us. Buzz is gray as hell and just cranks like there is no tomorrow. Dale is one of the most incredible drummers of all time. These guys are legends. Buzz wrote a ton of the music on the new Jellvins release, and it is sweet. The Melvins are just a wise old seasoned band that amazingly tours all the time (still) and it is just fucking amazing to me. They work harder than most bands and are always friendly to their fans.

ya dub i got a copy, and i guess i can't shake the feeling that the pinched/muted
guitar sound on the jourensen remix is so poppy, its like B-52s or something,
admittedly, the end of the song picks up with the drums i suppose but i'm on the
fence, no offence

It all sounds like rehashed 80s Bay Area thrash to me with slightly more extreme vocals and then to make matters worse they do a poppy melodic foo fighters vocal for the chorus and call it vocal dynamics. fuck that shite. I think I'll stick to Melvins even if they're collaborating with Fred Durst it's still going to better than all this so called metalcore shit

none of that shit resonates with me as a long-time listener of the melvins.

Thank you Smellis and Anaconda for both agreeing with me. Just wondering do either of you like Brutal Truth? I don't listen to alot of extreme metal but they have something I like. Buzz likes em too. Plus they covered Zodiac on their live album and Kevin Sharp the singer is on The Crybaby on Moon Pie but you probably knew that already. Also what other bands do you like? I'm just curious because I know alot of metalheads and indie heads who can't understand Melvins. Actually most of my friends just don't get Melvins. Just wondering what bands Melvins obsessives listen to other than Melvins.

Exactly right. I finally saw High On Fire Friday night in Rochester opening for Every Time I Die. HoF only played 45 minutes or so after Esoteric(horrible) & The Red Chord(Pantera-like w/ cookie monster vocals) but it was worth it. Preston iis the fucking man. Pike gave props to ETID and the other bands, saying the tour was fun and the guys were great, but I don't know what they're doing with those bands other than trying to get exposure from the younger crowd. They got a good response, but there were only a chosen few there strictly to see Pike and the boys.

Back to what you wrote, that exactly describes ETID. Like James Brown once said, "talkin' loud, saying nothing". There's no dynamics, no balls, no real rhythm section, just a stupid riff and some guy on vocals trying too hard to be "hardcore", and YES the hook is always the"catchy" chorus. They're good at what they do, but it's lame and the kids eat it up. The place was fucking packed with emo-looking teenagers and 20-25 yr olds. It was weird watching their reaction to HoF. Obvious they'd never seen anything that good.  I couldn't imagine these kids seeing the Melvins. The whole metalcore scene is just retarded.

Random comments I heard while HoF was setting up: "The singer is the guy from Kyuss, right?", & "They're a three-piece?, what the hell?"

People need to stop using the word "core" in their descriptions of musical genres. It really signifies nothing and is a retarded buzz word for teenagers. "Metalcore" would indicate that "metal" is the"core" of a bands sounds but most of those bands sound more like pop hooks with an cheesy riff to attract the kids.

buzz, the formentioned kevin, shane and danny from napalm death,  how can you go wrong?
personally, I don't know how muck more extreme it gets than VENOMOUS without turning into complete ear bleeding noise.

I like the Venomous Concept CD alot, also have all the Altamont releases
and throughly enjoy them, a quick look through my CD collection turns up the
following as well;
Godflesh, Black Flag, Spacemen 3, Acid King, Thrones, Throbbing Gristle,
Six Finger Satellite, Dwarves, Big Black, Rapeman, Shellac, QOTSA,
GG Allin, King Crimson, and some Kraftwerk.... by no means is that everything
I own, but a good cross-section of it.

question for you though:  I still haven't heard acid king (believe it or not) is it worth my time?  comparable to what?

Heavy, slow, fuzzy, scuzzy, theyre one of those bands that have their own sound.
Every song sounds alike but a little different in a good way. The have Lori S on vocals
and guitar, she's Dales ex but that hardly figures into the equation, more of an interesting fact
than anything.
