I like a lot of other stuff which on paper don't make too much sense. But when sung by Buzzo  with all sorts of emotions and convictions it just gives my the chills (like the stuff he sings in the fool... right before grinding starts.

I'm a big believer in music operating on a higher plane than language. Music affecting emotions directly, without the necessity of understanding the language that it is trapped in.

Music transcends.

I appreciate the sentiment of the above quote. Lyrics themselves really aren't that important and I think the Melvins show that off quite nicely.

(obviously good lyrics, literature, poetry, etc. also affect emotions, attitudes, world views and are highly valuable)
"There is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in the proportion."

I love that black bock songs. The whistling tops it off :)

Black Bock is great. It emphasizes to me what I really love about the Melvins... I never know what to expect, but when I get it it's really good.

Surprise and the unexpected are sorely missing from music these days.

I can't even listen to the radio without wanting to hang myself from lack of stimulation.

I could go on and on.  i think it's funny.  until the melvins came around for me i didn't think screamin nonsense could be so fun.  i know these words probably aren't right but what the hell ya know.  god bless buzz the king of making a bad ass song about nothing.

AMEN!!

i sort of wanted to revive this topic, because reading it makes me happy and i'd like to hope it would do the same for all of you.

Great idea. I have checked out some older topics before but I somehow skipped this one. Lately I like the stuff Buzz mumbles on If I Had An Exorcism after about 2 minutes, I have no idea what he's saying though. I first got really into this song after I had ordered a 92 bootleg from Beto where Buzz plays the same riff for about 3 minutes, Dale kicks in and Joe's singing that nonsense. After I had heard that for the first time, I thought that was the most piece of music I had ever heard.

(Damn, Dale's drumming on that track after half a minute is awesome!!! And speaking of drums, I just saw the Cream Farewell Concert DVD again - it's too damn good - and Ginger Baker's drum solo on that one rules fucking big time. If anyone hasn't seen it, check it out.)

Damn, I'm stoned..

"It's wise to think you'll try." ~ Hag Me
"You can feel like a hole in the shoulder, let it grow." ~ Copache
"When you all come cold and we sell our soul, yeah." ~ Shevil
"Now that you've opened up all of our dull minds, let me thank you most repeatedly." ~ Mary Lady Bobby Kins
"Now they're gonna burn me, make all my flesh away, leave me horror day." ~ At The Stake
"Get bound, be war, make freedom." ~ Roadbull

Some of the underrated ones, I guess.

i've always heard it as, "compelled, be warned, need freedom"

i am always open to interpretation though, and i always hear melvins songs differently.  it is part of the fun

norecess, as my friend would say, "you look very "80s" in that picture.

"los ticka toe rest!" - Hooch

I dont know what that means but it sure lets out anger

They're all good.

I really like the lyrics to "See how pretty, see how smart." I have no idea what the hell he's saying, but that song sounds like the end of the world. That's the song they should play whenever they show footage of B-52 strikes. It's just massive and heavy as hell, and the lyrics fit well.

I always kinda liked the song "Manky" but seeing it live, when Buzz goes "That shit keeps comin' round", then they REALLY tear into it, and the crowd goes totally insane. After the first time I saw that song live it quickly became one of my favorites. Also, he mentions something about "and I will kill them all." in that song which is fun.

Also, "away from the mango where we don't need, I got the one to make me alright." or whatever the hell he says on "the fool the meddling idiot", don't know what it means, but when I hear it I know something really cool is about to happen. And so do my neighbors.

And, I know it's not Buzz's lyrics, but the lyrics to "enchanted thoughtfest" have got to be some of the best damn political lyrics I've ever heard. Basically saying get off your lazy liberal ass and do something.

i can't believe i used the name dirty south in the house.

I didn't know that. When I saw them perform the song the first time, it really sounded like he was saying "shit", so I just assumed that was it. "That sick" is cool too, either way that's a good one.
