As for the album itself - where's the crowd noise? I really like hearing the crowd on their live stuff - adds much to the energy of the performmance.
I thought it was recorded in a studio (live in the studio) after the All Tomorrow's Parties gig. Hence, no crowd.

How many people?

No, -1 people were there. That's how popular the Melvins actually are.  :(

What to do? The band could've played more dates, treating fans on this side of the pond to the special rendition of the album. But, instead, they rented a warehouse, set up their equipment, rehearsed, and then recorded the set twice to an "invitation only" crowd. And that's Problem No. 1 with the disc: While it's technically live, it lacks the crowd-fueled energy of a proper concert album. The band is there, playing together, and it's certainly looser than the studio recording, but there is no crowd noise; instead of capturing a freewheeling mood, it just sounds like the band rehearsing in a warehouse-- which is, of course, exactly what it is.

Idiot. If I wanted a live performance with crowd noise I can download that any day of the week or go to a concert. Clearly Buzz's concept was to have a live sound without all the annoying crowd crap.

I think steve has a pretty decent chain of thought going on.
there are a million bootlegged recordings of live shows out there available for download, trade, etc.
what would be the point of putting out an official one besides the fact that this is the houdini album?  none.
once again,  I think melvins were trying to do something different and slightly unexpected.
I can dig that.

besides... usually when you hear one of those live bootlegs you notice the mic picking up various conversations, some fucking idiot yelling "YOU SUCK!!!" over and over again, etc.
in a way its nice to hear the looseness and energy of live without hearing some chic talking about where her and her friends are going after the show.

Dale: "Its not me, its Dunny boy over there thinking were playing jazz or some shit..."

Buzz: "Hey Dunn?!"

Trevor: "Yeah Mack Daddy?"

Buzz: "Are you coming on to me!?"

"akward silence....."

Buzz: "lets call it a night!"
