Great show. I suck at writing reviews, so I'll make this short and sweet.
The Melvins' set started with DSS (yup, he played bass) doing a bit of solo noise. Then Dale came out and started hitting cymbals. Then Buzz came out, made some noise and went into POTRE. It was a short set, but it rocked and I really dug the song selection. The order is slightly incorrect and I might be missing a song, but here's what they played:

Pigs of the Roman Empire
AMAZON
Bloated Pope
Let it all be
Night Goat
Hooch
Hag Me (i think)

After that, the guys put black ski-masks on and started Plethysmograph and Jello came running out. He might be old, but he still puts on a hell of a show.
I kind of moved back in the crowd when Jello came on since I was very tired/dehydrated. From what I remember, they played (not in order):

Plethysmograph
McGruff the Crime Dog
Yuppie Cadillac
The lighter side of Global Terrorism
Islamic Bomb
Caped Crusader
Voted off the Island

And I think they played more off of Seig Howdy. For the encore they did Rock and Roll McDonalds and Holiday in Cambodia, both of which ruled.
I'll let Vinney fill you in on the rest as I'm sure he will. I can't wait to read that interview, man.

Duke of Prunes

Oops. That was supposed to go in the reviews section. Sorry.
Also, this was the poster for the show:

DubEMC

Thanks for the lowdown Corey!
Was there anyone recording?
Did you and Vin get to hang out?

I need to talk to you soon about D & The Facials material for my compilation.

Duke of Prunes

No Problem.
You know, I thought I saw Vin, but didn't know he was even going to the Boston show. That's what I get for not reading the board before a Melvins show.
We were pressed up against eachother in that sweaty mess of a pit a few times. Pretty gross. (Not you, Vinney. It was just fucking hot in there!)
I didn't see anyone recording, but I was either way up front or way in back for most of the show. There were signs around that said "No Video Recording" but it didn't say anything about audio. If I find anything out, you guys will be the first to know.
And do tell about that compilation...

Joe Deutrom

No video recording? Not the Melvins now.... :( What is the big deal about this? Fan's video recording are not like full blown professional productions.

dr.ghira

Nothing new... When i asked at Ipecac about the Melvins recording policy in 2003, they said: No problem with audio, please don't virdeo-tape.

Joe Deutrom

Well thats Ipecac. Of course the label would say that. I'm sure if you asked the Melvins personally they would not have a problem with it as long as you were not selling it. I still see no big deal with this.

Vcavallo

hey corey, who were you?? i had a real good time in that pit!! i usually try to avoid it, but i just swayed with the mass and had an intensely tribal experience..  what do you look like? was i doing anything really stupid?  the VIDEO interview will be posted soon.  buzz was fucking hilarious!

rhett E rock

did they play Halo of Flies at all?  i'll be pissed if they don't Nov 2nd.

humboldt_bear

Thnx for the lowdown....I'm going to the gig at Humboldt Dtate on Nov. 8th....so I take it Jello is doing more singing than talking at the shows (YEAH!)...
BTW- what kind of PA are they using? any chance I can hook up my ibook and get a soundboard?
Later, Darren

Vcavallo

i saw it on the setlist after holiday in cambodia, but instead they ended on that song and didn't play halo of flies....
when i talked to buzz and dale (seperately) after, they both said the show went on too long.  hopefully they'll get to it in the future shows after getting the kinks out from this first show.
buzz was so passionate whilst playing pigs of the roman empire, it was great to watch his face. a truly brooding image

jello did much more singing than speaking, though i had to leave the venue for a little bit in the middle, so maybe he spoke a lot more

Duke of Prunes

Hey Vinney,
I was wearing a black Dillinger Escape Plan hoodie and was near you for most of the show. I think I saw you walking out of the Middle East while I was sitting on the sidewalk smoking a butt (needed some "fresh air").
Were you carrying around a paper bag after the show?
