Preston did not have anything to do with songwriting on Lysol.

First post to this board, so...here goes.

Was reading this thread just after watching the "Such Hawks, Such Hounds" movie, and a DVD extra is an interview with Joe about his rehearsing/playing with Earth,  plus obsessing about, joining and his time with the Melvins. He says pretty much that they just toured and rehearsed covers during his time with the band and that "any new stuff we worked on was ditched off Lysol". He implies (maybe actually says) that Lysol was all wtritten by the time he joined, and that he was sacked before he could contribute anything to the band creatively (aside from his solo album which seems rushed to me at most generous?)

He doesn't seem to be bellyacheing, just a bit disappointed really.

I always thought Joe wrote most of With Teeth? Or maybe I just read that on this board.

One of the best songs ever written in my opinion. It's so good.
Don't click this

black stallion

you had a dream about Buzz letting Joe to do something in the melvins?

Has anyone ever noticed, in the movie "A Clockwork Orange", when Alex is walking through the record store, he stops for a minute, and in the background, you can see a record with what looks to be the same Indian painting on it, with the white background?

Have seen that movie a thousand times, but never noticed that. Will check it out next time I watch it.

I totally spotted that too..and Tried to check it out once, It was a heath heartley record, does that ring a bell?

always wondered myself, I think someone also pointed out the melvins using it for the cover because of some old record label using it? or am I getting mixed up here?

anyway, I always used to think It was a picture buzz mentions in Koolegged.

Good luck on your hunt.

I tried to take the label off my copy over a year after I bought it....BAD IDEA!!! I noticed it wasn't going to end up well quickly so I left it on and taped the corners of it back onto the LP. I wonder if it could be steamed off? Probably not at this point....

Anyhow I LOVE this record. After listening to "Freak Puke" like 8 times yesterday I threw on Lysol to change it up. I forgot how much I love this album, from the droning of "Hung Bunny" to the Alice Cooper covers this LP just kicks ass. I always thought Hung Bunny and Roman Bird Dog were 1 long ass song since the LP never had a track listing. This was also my first full Melvins LP I ever owned. I thought I was buying their first album at the time since it said "Self Titled" in the catalog I ordered it from.

Just getting my two cents in here, because for me it was an awakening, of sorts.

I was in Myrtle Beach, SC, about 1994, and they had a pretty decent music shop, although I can't remember the name of it now. Anyway, when I went on vacations with my folks, I would always beg them to go to a good music store, since WV was/is not the mecca of great music on the east coast.

I go in and went straight to the "Alternative" section (does anyone even remember when music stores had such a thing??) under M to see what kind of stuff I could find. They had Lysol, although I didn't know it was called Lysol because this version had the censored cover. I just assumed it was called MELVINS. Anyway, I bought it, opened it up in the car, and couldn't find titles, tracklisting, nada. Just a bunch of roses, band members names, and the cassette was white with black roses all over it. I don't even think I could discern which side was A and which was B. I threw it in the walkman, and put on my 'awesome' headphones (hehe, what a joke), and away it went. About half way through the first side, I stopped it, opened up the tape well, and thought, wow, this is one hell of a long intro. So I kept listening. Got back to the KOA and walked out on the beach. A huge storm was rolling in and I sat down and just watched. About the time Buzz's vox kicked in, there is freakin lightning on the horizon. Swimmers get out of the water, people start heading back to their campers/tents/whatever. I stayed. It never rained, but the wind was relentless, and the lightning with Lysol in my headphones was fucking life changing. I was 16 years old. It truly made me see the power of music, and how it could really be made to set a dark, imposing atmosphere. It was like it was written for that electrical storm.

Anyway, hope someone enjoyed my trip back to the early 90s.

I enjoyed reading your story-thanks for sharing it

Ditto...

Am I the only one who feels like "With Teeth" is way too short? You get like 2 verses, a sick hook and bam it's done!!! I almost feel like the only way to listen to this song properly is to play it twice in a row real quick! I guess it's better to leave 'em wanting more but I almost feel like I have blue balls at the end of this song. I need more!!! haha

Do you listen to it on the "greatest hits" cd? :P I think it's track nine, you could repeat it over and over if you like. :o
