everyone I know who i would force the melvins onto , it all seemed like a painful ordeal for them, to me. They would kick and scream in agony, telling me to turn eye fly's off because it was too much. But, they got hooked and pulled in by the melvins.
these people now listen to Ozma, Bullhead, H.A.T. Lysol and etc. on a regular basis.
was your "conversion" a painful one?

Mine was self-inflicted. Or to put it another way, I was buying some supposed grunge classics while being into Nirvana a few years back and remember picking up 'The Crybaby' and 'Superfuzz Bigmuff' at the same time. Well, needless to say the Mudhoney record got listened to for months on end but then I caved in and bought 'Houdini' and all made sense...

in 90' my bassist dragged me and others to see 'em and was instantly converted, although an intense acid trip mixed with listening to gpt sealed the deal.  after that we called it being "melvined"

i started off with stoner witch...which really got me to love the melvins.
i would listen to it everywhere for a couple of months.
i'd go over to friend's houses and listen to it while they were talking.
then i became more open to their more non-stoner witch stuff and loved it.
it took a while for me to like lysol...but now i consider it one of my favorites.
now i've bought or heard all of it, except COD and Alive at the fucker club, with a few others.

i love how on the pigs of the roman press conference they say:
"It would be criminally and morally irresponsible not to get behind, promote and endorse The Melvins with every tool (legal and illegal) possible."

I can't think of any other band that would say or get behind that...

Mine was a bit difficult as the songs I downloaded to check out off Napster were mainly from the solo albums and the bootlicker, so I didn't really get a very good idea of the sort of music they made.
Persistence paid off though!

my enlightenment didnt kick in for a while. at first I thought they were just pretty good, but each album i would buy and then listen to just got me more and more enthusiastic about them, realizing their versatility and originality.

i got into them when an older wiser friend moved in with us for a little while. he played them and i didnt know if i did or didnt like what i was hearing but kept wanting to hear more. it was almost like a relief, to hear something so surprising. they changed my perception of music.
