EGO the Living Planet

I ran into Tim Moss while he was working for Peeping Tom. He sadi that Porn were going to be playing the Detroit show and described something simaler to what's been described in this thread. He also said get there right when doors open because there will be bands playing right away, possibly even a quick MELVINS set.

Moss confirmed here:

That Porn will be playing some shows, you can also see in the thread (after weeding out the bullshit) a few of the psoters for the tour, some expressly advertising Porn.

Rev. Mike, have you seen the Burlesque poster yet?  Or the second SOMA poster (isn't Burlesque printing both?)?  How do they look?

heheh.  Which ones do you dislike?

They're all pretty much crap, except for that one of all the knives raining down (Nuemo's)

I have not seen the BRLSQ poster yet, last time I asked Wes about it he still wasn't sure who was drawing it (either him or Aaron), haven't seen any of the other ones he's printing yet, some may be collaborations between him and the artist he's printing for.  I'm gonna be over there next week though, may see some stuff then.  the only poster I like that I've seen so far is SOMA's for halloween.

Lunica

the astronaut illustration is decent. dunno about the typography though.

the old school evening with the melvins (family/dog) is a great idea, but they should freshen up the illustration a bit, i don't like the effect they've put on it.

the mccartney(?) vampire thingy.. sure, the illustration is decent, not to my personal taste though, but thats just me. a bit too hippyish for me.

the knife one would be great if the background was black, or some other color.

to me, the winner is definately the mouth/eye one. its great typography wise, and more exiting than the other ones. it would fit ween better though.

of course this is just my opinion. (well, some of it is true, design wise.) sorry if i'm picky - its my job.

Thanks for the info Rev. Mike.

This is the beauty of graphic design, 10 different people will all like something different,
but they're all right and no one is wrong. Aesthetics are a very personal, undefinable thing.

Lunica

there are some basics that are definable though. like knowledge of general aesthetics and contrast/color/typography/alignment. of course, everyone can break these boundaries/rules, but not many people can do it, and make it look great.

a poster can also be great layout wise without you likeing it though. thats what personal taste is all about.

you can work your ass off in school learning all the rules, and abide them every second of your life, but it gets you nowhere unless you have a creative mind. you'll just end up making things that have been made a zillion times before. and in the other end of the scale is the person whos a natural. he can make great things without knowing the rules (only unconciously)..
ok, i'm not sure where i'm going with this - i forgot.
i must be tired..? something something?

wow, i read through what i just wrote, and i'm sure it would sound a lot smarter in Norwegian :)
at least i hope so.

the "a" in "aesthetics" really bugs me.

less is more.
if you want it overfilled - be sure to overdo it.
the bigger the contrast, the better.
