Dunno if this is a regular gig for Mr. Crover, but he's all over this album, which was recorded by Toshi at the Melvins' studio. You can listen to it here.

Hi everybody, long time listener... first time caller.
As the Conan Neutron in question, I feel uniquely qualified to chime in on this.
Band: Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends
Album: the Enemy of Everyone

Engineering/Production: Toshi Kasai
Vocals/Guitar: Conan Neutron
Bass: Tony Ash
Drums: Dale Crover

Additional Percussion and Vocals: Toshi Kasai
Additional Percussion: Dale Crover

Cover art: David Yow

This record was written and mostly arranged between June 22nd and September 7th 2014 by Conan Neutron. Tracks were recorded at Sound of Sirens studio in Sun Valley, CA between September 11th-15th, 2014 by Toshi Kasai. Vocals for Fight Math were done at Antisleep audio, Oakland, CA by Mr. Eugene Robinson on October 8th, 2014. Those were tracked by Mr. Scott Evans. Mixing was done at Sound of Sirens between October 10th-15th. 2014 by Toshi Kasai.

Mastering was done at Golden Mastering between Jan 27th and Feb 3rd, 2015 by JJ Golden.

Dale Crover is the drummer for the Secret Friends, there will be some shows... there will be more music, but yes... one of the greatest living drummers of all time played/plays on my songs. Pretty cool. We're all really happy with how it turned out, you can stream it for free... but if you have $5 to throw at it to buy a download, or more for a record or cd, that's awesome as well. But hey, kind of annoying when people turn everything into a mini mall right? So listen away for free... tell a friend, tell an enemy.

This is a good listen link as well: https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/releases

about me:
I've been in a few bands, most of which nobody would know... the most known to this group probably being the noiserock outfit Replicator (2000-2008).
Otherwise, i'm just a dude that has done more than many, and not nearly so much as some and gets to make records with one of his heroes.
Pretty cool.

Oh yeah, here's the back cover... also by David Yow.

Well, it's very complicated... see we all get into the same room and... wait for it...
we play music!

nuts right?

To answer the question I think you are asking, I demo the songs myself and do a basic arrangement, send them over to Tony and Dale then we work out the songs in the studio into a final arrangement. Usually right before we record them. Rough drum ideas become fully realized drum parts, placeholder bass parts get written into parts, a few things change here and there. Not much time for a lot of second guessing or Steely Dan nonsense. Which serves the material pretty well. Vocals go on last, as well as any Toshi "magicks" (keyboards, vienna boy's choir, etc.) then it goes to mixing... mastering... and then on to your plate!

Thanks. That's my dream. I have a lot of songs rolling around in my head, and I play them with a lot of different drummers (of varying talent levels) so I think dale could have no problem with my corny shit. but seriously, though...  :D

I doubt that I would've known about this if it weren't for the melvins.net. Thanks to you, my wallet is $16 lighter...

Definitely. Go post it up on the Melvins Facebook Group, as well.

Just got the CD in the mail yesterday. Pretty catchy tunes. Not your typical Dale Crover fare, but I like this guy's songwriting. Good hooks. Reminds me of some stuff from the 90's I recently dug out of mothballs.  8)

does a dismembered head make a distinctive sound?
All analog. Reel to reel. Fab Four. Little Deuce Coupe. Under My Thumb. Who's better than the Funk Brothers? No one!

conanneutron

Whelp, i'm a big ol' dummy and made a whole new post about our new record.

That is over here

oh, hey!
We have a new record!

No dismembered heads for percussion, just good ol' Crover pounding. But it is a concept record about Hannibal Lecter so there is some cannibalism.

Thank you for the interest in my small little part of the Melvins world.
