I was there and it was awesome.  After the show I talked to a few of the kids including the one who sang Night Goat.  I told him I'd seen the Melvins do it live at least 20 times and his version was one of the best.  He freaked out a bit.

Are they a Melvins covers band or do they do their own stuff too?

I think it's a music school and the teacher picks bands for them to learn, I've seen ones with Fugazi and Poison Idea.

It's an actual music school.  They learn how to play music and different groups of the kids will put together a concert.  Sometimes a mix of covers, sometimes a whole set by one band, etc.  The Melvins one I saw was at an old venue in downtown Portland that's no longer around.  Sometimes they would pop up at street fairs as they did at one in my old neighborhood one summer.  As I walked up they were finishing a Janis Joplin song and the 15 year old singer was ridiculously amazing.  The guy who runs the school got on the mic in between songs to talk about the school and thank everyone for coming and then says "who wants to hear some Slayer?!?" and they go into the song South Of Heaven.  I was waiting for it and waiting for it and then yep, the 14 year old singer stayed true to the lyrics "bastard sons begot your cunting daughters".

I know there was a thread here on the board about that Melvins set they did and I think I posted a picture of the set list.  I'll dig later when I'm not feeling so lazy
