Do you know any? I know that the Melvins, Buzz in particular, is very careful in not giving out personal info about himself or the band, but little things do tend to come out and make sense, or at least seem to fit.

Browsing through the 60 pages worth of threads in the Melvins Discussion I came across what I consider an obscure factoid:

The song Eye Flys is a homage to a book called Catch 22. In the book there is a character named Appleby who is disliked by another character named Orr who rather crytically states that Appleby has "flies in his eyes".

A quote from Catch-22:

Quote"Oh, they're there, all right," Orr had assured him about the flies in Appleby's eyes after Yossarian's fist fight with Appleby in the officers' club, "although he probably doesn

The title of "Influences of Atmosphere" may be taken from the Vincent Price movie "Pit and the Pendulum" - there's a specific line about being susceptible to the influences of atmosphere.  Doesn't seem like a coincidence...

the pit and the pendulum is a short story by edgar allan poe. did vincent price make it into a movie or is it just a coincidence?

Mad Arab

There is a movie version of this starring Vincent Price.

I just read the movie is loosely based on the novel of Edgar Allan Poe.

I also came across that Catch 22 - Eye Flys connection some time ago while browsing some old threads. In my experience, that is the best way to discover obscure Melvins fans even people like me and you didn't know yet. I'll post some when they come to mind.

"the fool, the meddling idiot" is a quote from forbidden planet.

"brain center at whipples" is a twilight zone episode.

Buzz likes books, and Simpsons, and has a pretty wife.  Dale likes Simpsons, and has a pretty wife.   Coady is very polite.  Jared is very tall.

books about wars.
I seem to remember him saying WWII was his "favorite war".

Mad Arab

So is it safe to claim as an obscure factoid that Buzz is a WW2 aficionado?

No.  Because I don't know it to be a factoid.  I just think I might maybe remember him possibly saying that at some undetermined place in time.
