I don't hear any Melvins influence in Tool songs either. Completely different sounds.

how about the crazy little noise things that tool started suddenly doing?

you know.. the old "lets try to alienate the fuck out of people" game.

too me that is heavily melvins influenced.  were there tool noise tracks before the melvins connection was made?  pretty sure no.

then again,  I don't know shit.

that being said I thought 10000 Days lacked a lot in terms of depth, especially the  vocals, and it was a definite step down from Lateralus

don't be getting me wrong though.   just spouting off.  I DO greatly respect the fact that tool is well liked around here by people who I hold in high regard.   just matters of opinion, thats all.  maybe digs are uncalled for.  I see  myself in the reflection, it shows a narrow-minded, "my opinion is supremely correct and everyone else's is garbage" person.   I'm embarrassed by that.   if you can't learn then YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT!

Tool has weird noisy jam type things going on their Undertow album. I believe that album came out before the Melvins/Tool friendship, I could be wrong about that though.

I've always thought that sound that starts the Lateralus record sounds alot like the sound that starts the Ozma/GPT record(Lori turning on her bass rig).  I wonder if this is a tip of the hat to the Melvins?  I think it's interesting to discover a new band that sounds completely original and fresh, and then to track down the music that the people in said band claim as influences, and discover... oh, that's where they got that from.  I think Tool picked up alot from middle era King Crimson.
