We recently caught the Melvins in Portland at the La Luna and were awe struck by the grumpiest slow grind we have ever heard. Put Sabbath on quailudes and overbuild their instuments (Buzz uses five bass strings on his 6-string gutair Drummer Dale seems to be using ride cymbals for crash.) and you may get close but the ludes would dull their keen wit and uncanny ability to land on their feet after sick jump into outerspace. They played an incredible three full sets. The Melvins are to rock music what Rothko was to painting, their minimalistic black vastness is haunting and yet at peace. This show was a unique musical treat. Plus the head of hair on Buzz these days would make Sideshow Bob jealous and is by it's self worth the price of admission.

We recently caught the Melvins in Portland at the La Luna and were awe struck by the grumpiest slow grind we have ever heard.

Put Sabbath on quaaludes and you may get close but the ludes would dull their keen wit and uncanny ability to land on their feet after the jump into outerspace.

They played an incredible three full sets.

The Melvins are to rock music what Rothko was to painting, their minimalistic black vastness is haunting and yet satisfying.

This show was a unique musical treat.
