Are we taking bets on the amount of 6 and 7 out of 10's it's getting?  How about how many times it's compared to Nirvana's Unplugged even though it sounds nothing like it.

Goddammit, Decibel...

They said it couldn't happen. They said it shouldn't... oh, OK. We're fibbing. Still, after 31 years and 19 Melvins albums, it seems odd that Buzz Osborne should finally choose to strike out alone. Speaking disdainfully of solo efforts that sound like "a crappy James Taylor," he's promised that This Machine Kills Artists will be "a different animal," and sweet mother of crap, he's not kidding.

Entirely acoustic but formidably hard-edged, it's filled with crushing riffology and deranged howls – not entirely dissimilar to those of his day job. There are surprises too, of course: the haunting New River hums with desert-parched blues, and How I Became Offensive plays tricks with us all by bordering on the sweetly reflective before exploding into menacing power chords. Meanwhile, Buzz remains as brilliantly manic as ever, ploughing more intensity into these 17 (!) tracks than most bands manage in a lifetime. Artists beware. [Will Fitzpatrick]
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

Patiently waiting to get the CD and crank it thru a real system. Have not sneak-previewed online either. Pre-ordered thru Best Buy, along with the Mike Watt CD - Il Sogno Del Mariano - "La Busta Gialla" & Fucked Up - "Glass Boys", to get the free shipping. Really hope "Glass Boys" is better than the borefest that was "David Comes To Life". Supposed to be back to basics, we'll see.

I ordered it last night, off the gramazon link on the front page of Melvins.net. like a good little melvins scout. Along with 2 other CDs and some music gear.

Buttholeman is a power tripping emotional abuser.  He censors my posts and says I need mental health help.  He's a jerk.  Please don't listen to him.  People DO love and respect your opinions.  I'm one of those people.  I love you. PM me if you're stressed.

I called it!  The first bad review of the album compared it to Nirvana's Unplugged!

http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/reviews/albums/buzz-osborne-this-machine-kills-artists

The review didn't say it was a bad album, nor did it compare it to nirvana unplugged, it mentioned it at most.

I will say that this reviewer does not get the album, and the content of the review does not match the 4/10 score.

To say that I disagree with the review would be an understatement.

Buzz does not sound like ozzy, what ozzy has this guy been listening to?

If the Buzzo album is a 4, what is a 10?

Captain CoryCory

This review is just hilarious. When I read the line "It just sounds silly" I'm thinking "Isn't that the point to begin with?"

The fact this reviewer relies solely on comparisons to Houdini and Unplugged makes me laugh even more.

Just got the email. Best Buy shipped mine today. :D

Perhaps we're getting into semantics but I consider the line, "more often than not, the effect is more Tenacious D than Nirvana Unplugged." to be a comparison.  More than anything it's bizarre that those bands are brought up because this album sounds nothing like either of them.

I'd also say closing the review by saying, "most listeners will struggle to get past the first couple of tracks before reaching for their trusty copy of Houdini." and giving it a 4 out of 10 to be a pretty bad review.

You've got to hand it to Buzzo - always trying something new.

It takes guts to get up like this with only an acoustic, even if you are a 30 year vet.
