What kind of speaker set up is in the background?

Has anyone compared the cds to the audience recordings released on Dime a few months ago? Are they similar?

It's a yamaha sound projector ysp-1100.

I have the recordings from dime but have yet to do a direct comparison but those are audience recordings and these are really nice soundboards.
Gotta say that I think this is the greatest release the Melvins have ever put out....by far.

Here's a shitload more pics..

Best $50 I ever spent in my life...straight up

If they were just the studio recordings repackaged for a collectible resale then you might have had a point.

heads up... this version of C.O.D with Jared and Cody fuckin' kills beyond belief.

If in the past you weren't a big fan of this track, you'll hear this someday and go.. oh shit...now I get it.

I got a chance to talk to Buzz after the Friday the 13th Seattle show and asked him if there was any chance of hooking us up with a C.O.D. Saturday.
He gave a devilish grin and said "maybe..you just never know"

I really thought is was gonna happen but, no dice. They didn't play it.

(when I asked him this I had no idea that they had secretly included it in the endless residency CD)

Surprised people aren't bitching about $50 for this.

While I dig the new movement in Melvins marketing ... I wish the shit wasn't so limited (mostly 'cause I've boned out getting any of this recent shit) and some has seemed a little pricey for what it is ... thou I think this is a steal ... a little too limited sure but that price is beyond fair for 4 cds regardless of wether or not it even has special packaging ... you'd be nuts to bitch!

That being said, I need (want) this bad bad bad!!! If anyone at any up coming shows would be willing to snag one for me ... coming your way would be paypal, eternal gratitude, and I could even throw in some concert posters (I got a spare Melvins (mabey 2), a Big Biz one that is super similar to the Houdini poster from Boston a couple years ago, some odds and sods ... the Sword, QOTSA, High On Fire ... I'd have to look for an accurate inventory thou).

PM me if ya got a heart of gold! Hope upon Hopes!

Alternatley, if there is a rip someone could PM a link for again eternal greatfulness!!!

It works out to $12.50 per cd. Not to bad for a good sounding live cd that is limited to 50, and comes with handmade art. No bitching here.

my guess/hope for this is that they will continue to manufacture these sets with a standard sleeve after the tour is finished and put them up on amrep in batches.
should be worthwhile for both melvins and amrep.

What's the opinion of the mods of this board on the offering of a download link to these recordings anyhow?

1. right now is ok
2. only after tour is over
3. ???
4. never?

Well, it is an official Melvins release, so at first I thought putting up a link wouldn't be wise. But after thinking about it, if they sell all the sets by the end of the tour, which I'm sure they will, then it's no longer out there for them to make $$ off of. If that's the case, I would think it'd be ok to put up some links and share it. The only problem is, they may decide to re-release it in the future, seeing as how much demand there was for these. I wouldn't be surprised to see it released as a 4 cd set, or even a single "Best of Spaceland" kind of thing without the letterpress artwork. Though they already have a live cd coming out....Fuck, I don't know.

For right now, I don't think it'd be a good idea to post any links.

That's my opinion, I'll wait to see what the other guys think.

I think links would be acceptable considering that this release will sell out no matter what.
usually when an official release goes out of print, or is extremely limited we've allowed links.
further to that thought, these are live shows and the band has always been open to us sharing
their live recordings. however, i once didn't delete a porn/merzbow link and i briefly lost my mod
title. so ...ya ....

I mentioned before on a similar thread that after the tour is over this would probably be reissued by AmRep as a non-letterpress/somewhat regular version for a cheaper price, maybe

Still, I'd like to hear them

I don't know if it's fair to say that it's okay to leak it because "this release will sell out no matter what". There's a lot of time between now and the end of the tour. $50 is a very fair price for the set but it's still $50. It wouldn't surprise me if a whole bunch of potential buyers saved their money if they could download it for free. Once the tour is over, however, I think even the band would be fine with it. They'll have made their money and hopefully funded some other tasty project.

I think most of the people who want to buy this will want to buy it regardless of whether they have the files to listen to or not - most things make their way online eventually anyway... It's different for collectables - a commercial release I can see people not buying because they can download it for free, because they can buy it at any time... It'll always be available, but something as limited as this... Well there isn't really another chance of getting it, and they're pretty scarce. The Melvins have sold out box sets of previously released material (which anyone can download easily from almost anywhere), they've sold a 7" with absolutely no music on it and people pay up to

I agree with you completely. BUT, I still think the right thing to do is wait until the tour is over and we know for sure they've sold all of the sets.

It's been said by the band that the only way that they can really make any $$ now is through touring and the limited edition stuff. The albums aren't worth it anymore. I don't want any part of keeping them from making new albums ( cheap ) by bootlegging the rare stuff WHEN IT'S STILL AVAILABLE (costly, to them). As much as it hurts me to say it ( only because I cannot afford all of it ), I hope they keep putting out limited edition stuff. If it keeps them in the studio and on the road, I'm 100% for it.
Later this year AmRep are releasing an AmRep/Melvins box set. This might contain all the old singles they did together, and might contain all these recent Endless Residency recordings, too. It could be prudent to wait.

Sample sounds great! (not 320kbps though; it's 80 @ 22kHz)

Thanks for sharing and looking forward to hearing the whole thing eventually.

sorry about that. It started out as 320. :(
my 1st time using upload service like that.

I'll try again though and update the link when I get it right.

update: I'm a total noob apparently when it comes to ripping cd's.(original files ended up at only 80k?) embarrassing

LOL 320k isn't "loseless" either, far from it...nowadays that's just a high(er) quality .mp3...

well- it's actually been updated to a straight 16bit/44.1kHz pcm wav file, so you can't better than that dude.
Title: Re: Endless Residency CD
Post by: gesundheit on May 20, 2011, 01:52:42 PM
Sure you can! 24bit/96k?? It just depends on how it was recorded.

16 bit/44.1k still doesn't delineate bit rate...the fact that it is a WAV file makes all the difference as WAVs are usually a much higher bit rate than 320k.

I'm not trying to split hairs here...just sayin'

I gotta double post in less than 24 hours. These shits is so damn good. I think the only way they could have a better live release is if they started performing Gluey, Ozma, and The Maggot live in their entirety and then released them in this quality. Goddamn.

They mistracked it, there isn't 11 tracks, Dwight Fry should be track 9 not 11.

I'm not one to question Lord Buzz but I think it's a damn shame that this isn't a retail release. This is arguably the best thing they have ever done. If Sugar Daddy was disc 5 there would be no doubt.

On a few random notes Stoner Witch live is by no stretch of the imagination bad, but you can tell those songs haven't been in their repertoire for very long.

Houdini Live 2011 > Houdini Live 2005

When Buzz and Jared yelled "YOUR BLESSEND!" I had an eargasm.

Colossus of Destiny sounds surprisingly really damn good here. When I first heard the bootleg I sort of thought they were trying to recreate something that couldn't be recreated but it's completely different and sounds great.

Euthanasia fits in perfectly with the Bullhead material. I kind of wonder why it wasn't included on Bullhead.

Best. Melvins. Lineup. Ever.

my opinion is both bass and vocals were better on Houdini live 05. probably i prefer drums sound on this though

Holy fuck this sounds good but I agree with Black Stallion.

The vocals are too loud and the bass is too low in the mix. Jared's bass sound is HUGE live while it isn't so much on the recording. Minor complaints, though, this sounds fantastic.

that's pretty weird if you think.i noticed Jared bass is too low in all the melvins recordings i heard since BB joined but as you said he has a huge sound when you listen to them live. probably it has something to do with the distortion he uses. minor creepy complaint, of course

It hasn't been particularly difficult to get them, but better to get to the merch stall early obviously. They have been available on the 2nd night in at least one venue so far; not just one per person, either.

Disk 1.. C.O.D/Lysol/Eggnog - Is ridiculous!!

C.O.D into Eyes Flys into Charmicarmicat into Hung Bunny/Roman Dog Bird! They sure know how to open a show!

4 Songs 50 minutes!! Pure Sludgy Goodness!!

I hope it's the same in NY [-o<

Set 1 on the first night could end up one of my favorite Melvins shows ever!

Leech and Theme from the Peel sessions were released on the Singles 1-12 compilation. The Peel session version of Euthanasia is different than the Dope Guns version and I don't think was ever officially released (I was under the impression that the Tanx 7"s were bootlegs, could be wrong).

But I also know, as Buzz already knows, that give it time and these shows will be found on so many download sites down the road that everyone who couldn't afford the $50 will download these shows and have them.

Went to the 1st night in Boston tonight and picked up the 4cd set (the holy grail). I got #3/50. When the show was over and before I left, I went back to the merchandise table and all of the 4cd sets... SOLD OUT.
   MELVINS were amazing tonight.
Back tomorrow for the 2nd night_ Bullhead / Stoner Witch performances.
I'm going to bed now and blacking out.

busy night @ the merch table for me...got the Kiss poster, the Black Betty split, and of course the box. there was definitely a line of people forming at least 45 min prior to the 8PM doors open time, and that's right where people went when entry was granted. I saw that someone bought the $200 LP edition of 10 BSM, and my friend who got there right when the show started was bummed to hit the table afterwards only to find the Kiss poster gone. maybe he'll be able to snag one tonight.

one thing i hadn't seen mentioned was a 'special ed_ition' box, that i happened to luck into...i noticed when my wife was gonna run back to the car and stash the posters and cds that my friends and i bought, so we all checked what # we got...mine didn't have a number, and was signed by Buzz, Dale and Haze. the photo glare is a bit tough to see, but there's a 666 on the critter's head.

Yes, all of the "Endless Residency" cd sets for Boston are gone. I'm jealous over that "Limited Edition" one you got, player. Sweet!! I did manage to get my hands on some merchandise so it's all good. Hate that there's no XXL t shirts though. I have a cool story about the merchandise guy though:

I bought 2 cd sets, 2 black bettys, 1 Kizz poster, and 1 Sugar daddy. It was supposed to cost me $180. The guy said $260 and I was so excited that I just forked the money over like a dummy. I left the club, put the goods in my car and headed back. It was about a half hour later that I realized I had overpaid by $80!! There was a long line of people, there was no way the merchandise guy was going to remember me and what I bought, right? Wrong!! I spoke with him and told him the situation. He remembered me, explained that things get hectic, which is completely understandable, and gave me my $80 back. I figured it was gone. There were no receipts, no way he could remember me. Who could blame him for not remembering and telling me to scram, but he didn't. THAT, is a cool and righteous dude. I def. bought him a beer and will again tonight. Thanks man!!!

fuck, he did the same thing to me! i got 2 shirts, a BSM LP and a CD box... shoulda cost $140, right? i didn't realize til it was too late that he charged me $180....

busy night @ the merch table for me...got the Kiss poster, the Black Betty split, and of course the box. there was definitely a line of people forming at least 45 min prior to the 8PM doors open time, and that's right where people went when entry was granted.

Hopefully they'll issue more of these box sets. I'm only going to Brooklyn tonight and would assume the box sets were all sold yesterday. They can issue more and just make them different enough so as not to decrease the value of the limited edition ones. Though it would have been nice to get a Brooklyn show one at the Brooklyn show. These things are selling for over $200 on Ebay already. That seems wrong to me. These are for the fans and fans should want to keep them not just sell them to make money. I can understand buying one for a friend but not just to make money on selling them on Ebay.

there should have been a one per limit, maybe two at the most.

There should be a limit, and I also think maybe they should just sell 25 on each night. I know the merch guy only sold two per person on the night that I went. You could get to the back of the line and try again if you wanted, but initially, just two.

Best live multi-CD set ever! Got me a Brooklyn #11/50 from a very cool person in Nomeansno land. I love the packaging, but I already put the CDs in separate slimline cases. They would get scuffed taking them in and out of the cardboard sleeves, plus they don't slide out real easy.
Pretty cool the way they messed with the song orders, to keep it more interesting. More bands should do that, instead of playing it the same way the studio album was done. Nice that Euthanasia is on the Bullhead set, and Okie. Best Spread Eagle Beagle version w/ the Pizza lyrics too. I think I like the Stoner Witch set the best, followed by the mindfuckery of C.O.D./Lysol/Eggnog, then Bullhead, then Houdini.

There were 50 of the LA ones, numbered (unsurprisingly) from 1 to 50. There were also one or two of the other varieties that had been left over from the relevant gigs or were surplus for one reason or another.
