we've just seen Melvins doing some amazing performances with Dunn as trio. plus we've seen ( from some videos Mr Lucky has posted) BB doing what they do better, rocking,in the most straight forward way!
what if things would stay the way they are now?
share your opinion!
Maybe the BigBelvins still have some aces up their sleeves. But Buzzo writes most of the songs anyway. And Dale just sounds way more powerful on his own.
Trevor Dunn would be a most welcome addition, bringing a fresh sound to the group.
So to sum it up: I'm all for the change.
(A Dunnvins album of new songs would be a wet dream come true)
"(A Dunnvins album of new songs would be a wet dream come true)"
Agreed.
A Melvins/ Lustmord performance is needed first.
I want more Bigmelvins material. But i'm happy with everything. Remeber the suprise of POTRE? How about a Melvins lite tour album? Like the residency box? They played many songs not usualy covered.
It would be amazing! But highly unlikely.. Ideally it would be great if both versions of the band toured and recorded
Just a vote for BigMelvins. I like Melvins w/Dunn, but I love the 4 man Melvins. In my opinion, the Melvins have released three straight great studio albums with BB. "Civilized Worm" is one of the best rock songs of the last decade. I like it this way: BIGMELVINS as the main dish and DunnMelvins as a side dish.
"Least of dolls, it goes unspoken, you should have known"
I don't care either way but I do hope to see some more Dunn action because he is the fucking man.
I'm tired of the whole argument really. I love em either way. Whatever will be, will be.
Bring on the three piece!

I'm with you on this. I don't care which way it goes, just give me more Melvins albums! But goddamn those videos with Dunn are impressive as hell. Buzzo was right when he referred to him as "stinkingly talented" in the liner notes for History of Gluttony and Lust
i saw Melvins lite.
:-k I would chose Melvins lite over the current line up.
Dales drumming is lighter and no barbershop vocals.
Bring on both line ups! The more Melvins the better!

I would be stoked if Toshi recorded the Melvins lite tour!!!
I like my Melvins lite. Would prefer to hear Dale just drum and Buzzo just on vocals and X just on bass. Far more interesting.

I say keep BB in the Melvins. I am not convinced that they have reached their full potential in what can be done with this lineup.
They've been there longer than Mark D or Lori. What's taking them so long?
i love the stuff with the big biz boys , but this melvins lite is refreshing , i'd still like to see anything new , i have never been disappointed yet
Well, for one thing Dale and Coady do not have to always play the same thing in time. They could alternate and play different parts. Buzz could start singing without harmony and back up vocals on some songs. Jared could too. They could utilize panning audio sometimes. They could also knock off the messing around and put something really menacing out. I mean if we can come up with different scenarios they could try so can they...it just seems to me that they have been pretty conservative in their overall song structure and they have limited some of the adventure in the song crafting that they have had in the past as a three piece.

No not really, slightly reduced but still pretty much there. Dale's take on Evil New War God would have been interesting tho.

Definately.
They're simply a much better band live & in the studio with three.
They need Coady in the band to attract chicks. He's young, chiseled and handsome. The other members are fat and ugly.(forgive me for saying this)

They should make Coady grow a 'stache too ... hell, they should all grow 'em.
The Melvins lite stuff is very interesting, but I'm all for the line-up they have right now. They make for one of the best bands I've ever heard. The double drumming creates a wall of sound that just blows you over.
Wall of drumming is good and all. But don't you miss the offbeat, awkward drums that made them so good in the past as well?
After all this years I'd rather this have been a side project and Melvins kept on going as a three piece but that's just me.

Honestly, yea. I think it's pretty obvious actually. It sounds like one drummer is in the band instead of two. It's still a great performance but so are the videos of Buzz and Dale playing Melvins songs with no bassist. They kick ass regardless of who is in the band.

If they did this the next album cover should look like the cover of HOOPER the old Burt Reynolds movie. It should come in four versions so that each member and their stache can be featured.
