Title: Melvins on The JukeBox
Post by: JUDY on January 16, 2012, 03:16:31 PM
My favourite watering-hole has this Jukebox, right?

I've been scheming to get Melvins on there. I bought a copy of Stoner Witch, because I figured a full length album and art work would be the way to go. You really can't go wrong with The Witch that is Stoner.

Someone else recently suggested a mix, instead. I mean, if I can get Melvins in, I'm going to want some variety. Of course I'm being selfish here, because I can't see too many others paying money to have their ears/balls crushed. Sorry bastards.

So, if YOU were in a bar, and saw a jukebox by the bloody mary bar, what Melvins album/songs would you want to hear? Would you prefer it to be an assortment, or a full album?

Potentially, us locals could arrange another BBS meeting, and hijack the whole thing.
Fill it with bananas, rig it so that every option is an unexpected, extended version of COLOSSUS OF DESTINY.

Really? Awesome. Never been there, but I know the name....

So in other words, it's written that I need to one up.

)))((( - funny you should say that. I would indeed get Maggot, but like you said, the track split up would fuck it up...(or maybe make it more interesting, who knows?) Jukebox's do not play things in order....

Ok kids, off to work. Keep the suggestions coming, and I'll report back later.

It's a pretty awesome little dive bar. Seen High on Fire, Mastodon(glen's number 1 band), Weedeater, Uphill Battle, Mouth of the Architect, Misery Index, Magrudergrind, Stinking Lizaveta and ton of other bands there.

But yeah, back on topic..I would probably put either Bullhead or Stag in the jukebox.

Does anyone have an answer for this? BHM, I'm looking at you.

Hmmmf.

Bullhead is here, and was actually my first choice when I was scheming this. I can pick that up, easy.

I've been to a few bars here in town that have Melvins in the jukebox.  I also know that Zeitgeist in SF had a lot of Melvins.  Probably due to Cheeseburger :)

Before I left my hometown me and some friends we able to talk the owner of our favorite hangout to put Stoner Witch in.  I think we were the only ones to play it.

I'd prefer albums, but a mix would probably be easier to get put in the box.

Betchya having Melvins on Jukebox is way more common on your coast.....

Nice. the box also has LOCUST ABORTION TECHNICIAN. I usually feed it all of my dollars, and it plays the album all night - in a random order, of course.

I'd prefer albums, but a mix would probably be easier to get put in the box.
Rightio. Or I can just put in two. Stoner Witch and Bullhead is what I have in mind, for now...

When I go into a record store, I go to the M section and makes sure the Melvins discs are all nice and tidy and in order. I also put the Bible in the fiction section at Barnes and Noble.

ASA or NWB would be good choices.

A few years ago, while shooting pool with some friends, I played all of Here Come The Waterworks on one of those jukeboxes that has an online connection or something that let's it offer many obscure choices.  The management turned down the volume after a couple songs.

I'd pillage, and rape, and later, turn the damn box over.
The jukebox at this place is pretty retro. There are actually discs, and sleeves. The only time I ever got turned down/tuned out is when I played Saucer Full of Secrets. That scared the fuck out of everyone there. I usually just get long sighs when I decide to give it enough money to play BHSurfers LAT in its entirety. There's other good stuff on there, too. Among the large selection of classic rock, motown, and jazz, there is also Sonic Youth, Ween, Big Black, and a couple of other good and great things.

Bronx Bar, Midtown, Detroit. About five minutes walking distance from Woodward/The DIA district.

The Hurricane in Seattle about 10 years ago had Houdini on the Jukebox. We used to go in late at night and play Spread Eagle Beagle back to back for a couple of hours straight at a time. It matched the food perfectly.

PS: I recall going to some bar in SF with uncle danny and spunmonkey.. I think it was called Molotov's.. maybe?
and they had HOUDINI in the jukebox.  I am taking an educated guess that I played HAG ME at very least but I was unfortunately too drunk to pay any attention.

I aint no BHM but I would say screw ordering from your supplier and search on amazon or ebay for stag and houdini. you can get them cheap from there and still be able to make a bit of money if you are wanting to sell them in your store.

Rightio. If it were a personal purchase, I'd know how to get it.
I was just confused to why those two keep getting canceled by the vendor at my place of work. Did Ipecac stop issuing it? Not a big deal...I was just curious!

My guess is that they are no longer in print. I am sure there are still warehouses with boxes of them somewhere. But I do not see how any of the Atlantic records with the exception of Houdini are in high demand from Atlantic. Houdini has the Cobain stuff which I am sure sells because of that.

As of now, I can get Stoner Witch, and even the Boner stuff easy. Houdini and Stag were probably both big sellers...so yep. Guess the warehouse I get from is O-U-T. Poof.

I can only order them one at a time, and so far, Stoner Witch is the only one I have been able to sell more than one copy of. I'm doing good, though! I target young kids looking at crappy buttrock, and older gents that say they know heavy. Obviously, you don't sir. Take this Melvins, and off with you!

After reading this thread, I've come to the realization that I frequent far too many bars.

In all of them are digital jukeboxes, I can't remember the last time I saw one with discs in them.  Of the nine bars I can think of off the top of my head, one of them only has Houdini but the rest have:

Houdini
Stoner Witch
Stag
Senile Animal
Making Love Demos
Nude With Boots
Sugar Daddy
Eye Flys - Colossus of Destiny
Eye Flys - About a Boy soundtrack

I've never had the volume turned down on me but a bartender did skip Shevil about halfway through because he thought it was boring and dragging on too long.  I had a fit at him until he gave me my money back.  I won't be returning there.

I noticed a long time ago there is a Starcastle Song that sounds TOO close to the Rush Song "closer to the heart"

anyone know Starcastle? anyway if you ever heard it you'd be all like "HEY!!! WTF!!!"

I think it's from the "fountans" album, but man, at great risk, I'd say this about rush, They were Heavily influenced by other music!

I mean usually any band that has a GIANT amount of output, there's usually influence directly by other music.

anyway I always wanted to have a jukebox man, It dawned on me one day of all the 7''s I could collect would make an amazing Jukebox collecting, I mean It's probably the BEST thing to do with your 45's if you had an extensive and rare collection.

(It would obviously be full of melvins singles.)

Eye Flys - About a Boy soundtrack

I've never had the volume turned down on me but a bartender did skip Shevil about halfway through because he thought it was boring and dragging on too long.  I had a fit at him until he gave me my money back.  I won't be returning there.

we have the same options on the digital/internet jukeboxes here in many a bar. just the other night i played colossus of destiny for a buck. sometimes the bartender skips it eventually, i'm ok with that as long as it reaches the part where the 'stop fucking me you're giving me a headache' sample plays. it's the gamble you take in putting it on and you certainly don't want to stand up in the middle of an annoyed bar and say you were the one to put it on. my friends keep threatening to out me as the culprit. Another favorite is spread eagle beagle off Houdini, i often let our server know that me playing it is part of their tip.

  That's the spirit! I wish I had the chance to do that. I'd get beer money from people not to play it.

Sometimes I hear Spread Eagle Beagle on the jukebox at my local bar.  A friend of mine think it's a real hoot to play on a packed night.
