Title: The Melvan on Ebay
Post by: Idlehanz on February 27, 2012, 12:34:39 AM
The Melvan (complete with the famous Cobain KISS mural) will be on Ebay soon.  I have no idea what shipping would be to Europe Jules :)

I hope Paul Allen gets it. That would be great for the EMP. Someone tip him off with a phone call.

The EMP inquired about it a few years ago.  They wanted it donated to them.  If I owned it, I wouldn't just give it away either.

This can be driven, not posted. Can't you get from Alaska to Russia during the winter by land? It's all downhill from there! Hmmm....

A new identity yet still the same old Swanky.  :)
Completely random, a non-sequitur:

Does anyone remember the simpsons episode where Mr. Burns walks up a step, and says 'I'm a big boy!'  #-o

As for the Mel-Van, wasn't he asking $100k?   He posted some interior pictures; there's a melvin sticker on the dashboard.  Sadly, the interior looks very-well-worn.

Is EMP an acronym for something? If I had something and it was one of a kind I'd like to think I would donate it to a museum if the curator said they were willing to keep it on display in their permanent collection.

Maybe the BBS people (us) can buy it. Put it somewhere nice so we can all come see it/sit in it/smoke in it/shag in it from time to time. I'm happy to do a months' worth of overtime for the preposterousness of it all. Really.

As great as that sounds (except the naked bit) i wouldn't want to go anywhere such as that with the ever impressive Mr Blessed. With a voice like his avalanche's would be sure to occur!
I'd go ANYWHERE and do ANYTHING with Brian Blessed, and you can quote me.

Oh and re BBlessed, have you heard the iPhone Brian Blessed alarm clock app - very funny. I was woken up by Brian shouting "congratulations, you've made it through the night"

thats funny becuase Feltch was recently arrested for not paying a fine for having some heap-o-shit van in his driveway too long.

It's enough to make you sick, wonder if the melvins get a % of the proceeds...imagine how THEY feel.

This thing should be a Charity item, I think This is wrong on so many levels.

Whatever, It's scary that someone HAS money like that...WTF, The bids gotta be phony right?

no way someone's going to pay that much right?

I could pay the melvins to play in my backyard for a year straight with that kind of loot.

yeah but what stencils! are you a graffer ()? I've good friends that risk probably jail to paint who hate banksy/stencils, actually prolly more stencils than banksy as a whole. banksy is more than stencils. shouldn't hate on a guy because he's popular, even though he is unknown to the greater public.
I like what he does, he's humorous/witty with a message at times. it's original, all ticks in my book!
he's put his artwork up in the lourve, natural history museum and others! that's ballsy and funny.

Oh exactly. I wasn't hating on Banksy there i was just trying to be funny since he uses/used stencils alot to make his images. I actually like that aesthetic and in no way does a stencil (or anything else for that matter) lessen the effect of a work of art. Even tho i am very much interested in process and the dynamics it can create, im certainly not hung up on the role of it to the detriment of a work. I am compelled by (and obviously an artwork stands or dies merely by) what the outcome is. It may be all smoke and mirrors but i do think Banksy has something else going on beyond the mere surface value of graffiti or such. He seems to have some core concerns and principles there. Whether he really does tho who knows.

Banksy is brilliant.. Total subversive genius. Have you guys seen "Exit Through The Gift Shop"? Great Film

-Regarding The Melvan.. It seems stuck @ $99,999.99. Is that as high as ebay will allow bidding?

I think its overpriced personally, didnt think it would get this high.
Secondly, the guy said the reserve was 150,000, then he said the reserve wasnt that much, and now the auction itself shows a lowered reserve.
I think people are bidding for shits and giggles, they knew bidding anything under 100,000 was just for fun.
I think that the people are scared to bid over 100,000 because that bid just might MEET the reserve. And i dont think any normal person honestly wants to be stuck with that van and have it sit there collecting dust, just like the current owner.

Everyone believes they have gold.
Typical down on his luck w/ $ in his eyes, digging out of a hole seller.

No bids thus far. Maybe if he took a couple zeroes off the starting bid ... though I suspect if he did that he might not have enough to cover the fee of the "auction professional" he hired to administer this sale.

hm, I thought he was just trying to front for his band?

well that 50 grand WOULD come in handy if you needed to play in a band.

the band name sounds like Brain Walsby's  "Shiny beast" band name.

what the hell?

are they cool or do they suck? They better not suck.  :x

i recently got shiny beast 7", and that is great, i cant comment on weirdbeast as i havent bothered to check them out.

what i cant make out is why he set the reserve so high the first time if he wasnt expecting all the coverage etc that it got. things still seem odd, i would prefer that dodge challenger that bobpepper is selling, but only because i thought they looked pretty cool in deathproof.

I meant Is the band "weirdbeast" anything notable?

Shiny beast I would think is a lot more interesting.

I just noticed the name coincedence wondering if there's a connection.

not that this has anything to do with this, but on a side note*

There IS a Paul Mcartney/melvins connection from down the lines.

(I remember that photo of little Lorax with Paul)

after reading that new Crover interview he was talking about working on something with Paul.

that would be kind of neat.
