25 May - Maryland Death Fest, Baltimore

goddamit!! I've always wanted to go to Maryland Death-Fest. Thanks alot for making it 12 times more stressful that I will once again highly likely miss this.
PS: MELVINS? at Death Fest? this seems odd to me. mark my words.. there will be unruly attendees to the MELVINS set. Grind-kids who will say bands like MELVINS and Down have no business being there.

I wouldn't really agree with much of what was said on that page, but thats just my opinion.
i'll be going...booked a room at the Radisson last week.

Pagan Altar

The superb Mount Ambulance commented that he hadn`t seen my fine ass outside ecumenical, so I thought I should give it a go. Thing is that I`m not a merchandise, collector-chap, I only come here when there is talk about a new tour, or if there is a new record with Big Business I can moan about.
Anyhows, do not doubt, Melvins are top priority, although I tend to talk about stalls and rectums more. Hail!

Yeah, I went last year. It's 4 days long. I only went one last day last year, Sunday, primarily to see Electric Wizard, Yob, St. Vitus and Church of Misery. This year I am going to 2 shows, Thursday and Friday, so I will miss the Melvins and Obsessed and Sleep, but I will get to see Ufomammut, Bolt Thrower, Carcass and more.
The event is a blast and well worth attending. Most bands custom tailor their sets for the crowd (all killer, no filler), and as the day progresses, the bands get better and better, so by the end, even after you think you have no more face to melt or head to explode, you find that last little precious nugget of sanity and completely and happily destroy it in homage to who the fuck ever is on stage at that point.
I want to see Melvins live at the annual Bergenfest in june. Last year Slayer played, in 2013 I want to see the might Melvins. With a capacity of 5.000 spectators, the outdoor scene "Plenen" would be perfect. Come to Bergenfest Melvins!

Bergenfest (Bergen Live) has a very good reputation, check out their pages:
http://bergenfest.no/ (http://bergenfest.no/)
There aren`t many artists booked so far, Band of Horses, eh dare I say it....eh, Mark Knopfler , bergen bands Real Ones and Empty bottles broken hearts. Bergen loves hard, sludgy and heavy music, The Melvins would be welcomed as kings if they came.
Come to Bergen!
last time they played Norway was at Oya fest (right?). i will never forget people cooking sausages during A History of bad men
13. Melvins - A History of Bad Men (Live in Norway, 2007) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q7Q-KjD600#ws)
That won`t happen in Bergen. In Oslo at Øya people go to show off their expensive festival gear, there many guys there who are really nancy, nancy boys, in Bergen you will have just people who are there for the music. Usually a bit more entusiastic than the Oslo crowd too.

and what's the merch gonna be like?
A country per day.
A new Melvins Lite 7" per day.
I hope. Well, actually that would spell bankruptcy for me.
There are plenty of good bands playing at MDF, I was ready to buy my ticket before the Melvins were announced. Even though I'm a Melvins fan, I'm actually not that excited that they, and Down also, are playing. I would much rather see other black/death bands at this type of festival. I've listed out the best bands playing below, anyone going to the fest should try to catch as many of these bands as possible. Especially Cruciamentum, since they've announced they're breaking up after their last few dates:
Antaeus
Aosoth
Bolt Thrower
Revenge
Kommandant
Convulse
Ascension
Cruciamentum
Evoken
Loss
Midnight
Speedwolf
Anhedonist
Deiphago
I will also probably check out these bands if I'm not doing anything else:
Carcass
Carpathian Forest
Abigail
I heard from a sound guy in Bristol a few months back that they were coming down in spring. He also said that they were maybe doing more than one date there, playing eggnog and stoner witch on another night. I hope to god this isn't total bullshit.

It's a trap! He just wants to stab me.
"Stab" as in spoon, or stab as in...stab? Idle, I assure you, if you ever should come to Bergen, Schnab would make the hefties barbequeue ever, and serve you with the finest of Bergeneeze beer, I would have treated you like a king! With no hidden agendas,
guranteed! Come to Bergen!

And btw, Festsaal Kreuzberg is an excellent venue.

I predict a small full-album tour. like as in they play about 20 (or less) cities and do a couple of full albums at each.

Yeah, like they did in the middle of 2011? I was thinking that too. I got to see them do that by the way, at the Boston shows. Day 1-Lysol, Eggnog, Houdini Day 2-Bullhead, Stoner Witch-amazing concerts.
I would just die of happiness if they announced they were going to do Stag and/or Hostile Ambient Takeover too. In fact if they were to play another album live, I'd say Stag is the most likely.
Tickets are going fast...has this been announced anywhere else?
Just managed to snag a double ticket last night and I see they're already sold out today.
Festsaal Kreuzberg is a relatively intimate venue for this kind of Melvins show especially. Psyched.

Yes. I bet the "big and exciting surprise" of 2013 is that the only U.S. gig they'll play is MDF, that Melvins will relocate to Bron-yr-Aur, a small cottage in southern Snowdonia in north Wales where they'll record an acoustic triple album before only playing Canada until they all retire, age around 115. Mackie is currently working on a 1:1 scale letterpress Chieftain tank which will fire rounds of Brian Walsby's hairballs and which will be sold on eBay at a starting bid of $12,000 - Oldernie and I are saving up for it as we type.
You just made my day
i believe the april dates will be melvins lite and sometime early may they switch to the 4piece residency shows. i assume that besides berlin there will be a few more cities for residency shows.
...i have no proof of all that, but i know they need to be back in the US for the MDF, so you can calculate: they are in berlin 07.05./08.05. and in MDF 23.05. which is roughly 2 weeks inbetween, which means 4 to 5 additional residency shows could be possible.
This topic just drives me crazy. I'm going to stop reading it until Melvins come home and start gigging again. I'm having to settle for Tomahawk at The Mayan later this month... Love their new LP Oddfellows however!
Melvins Lite will play on Saturday May 4th at the Asymmetry Festival in Poland, sharing the day with Metallic Taste of Blood, Amenra and Ufomammut.

None of these dates have been 'announced' officially by the band yet. I think the early dates are leaked, rather like the three really early 51 in 51 dates.
And I said I was going to avoid this topic until Melvins come home and start playing here again. Maybe if they play Madrid, I can go see them!!

It's almost impossible to tour northern/central Europe without bumping into Germany a few times. It's very big.
Germany has between 80 and 90 million inhabitans, Melvins can go big if the make a name there. Turbonegers main base is Germany, they have MANY german fans.

Melvins Tour Europe, NEWSFLASH, apparently WW3 starts Earlier than Expected!
Yknow, I just Realized what the middle-east conflict is all about
The US gov.
refining Opium. into morphine, THEN into Heroin. Then letting the Chinease deal it for them, as an intermediary to conceal the source. Like money laundering. after all, you know who the next war is gonna be with, and WHERE more importantly.
Its about controlling the heroin Trade, then selling it off on the streets to kids like you.
then Once your hooked on Street smack, they ween you off by perscribing you their Legal perscription Oxies. and make a KILLING, LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY.
one hand washes the other...or in this case, Jerk you off, backhanded style, I call it; THE STRANGER.
oh shit, THEYRE COMING FOR ME!
NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
no one wants to WIN the war on Drugs. dont worry, Rehab centers are more than happy to take mommy and Daddys money, to fix up their number one and put him back into Circulation again. no one is gonna fix the REAL problem. doncha know.

One thing i must say about the Melvins endless touring (also board members whereabouts) is that it is really helping me to improve my geography knowledge. Damn! Holy-day and day off the 20th of may in Norway, plus full Premier League round, the last, with home games for West Ham, Spurs and Chelsea, words have gone out to me mates. (the only aber about may is that we are selling the house hopefully the first weekend in may, but there is a chance of us having a new showing the weekend after or the weekend around the 20th of may. But I dont necessarily have to be there...)

I wouldbn't meet in Camden, the venue for the 2 London nights is in Brixton, the Electric, not the Electric Ballroom, Camden!!

Anyone know any decent cheap hotels near the London venue? Just trying to figure out if it will be easier/cheaper to stay in London for the night instead of travelling back from both.
Yeah right, Cheap..you cant beat out behind the venue, fighting a Sewer Rat over a crust of pizza, and gettin up with the club manager kicking you in the ribs tellin ya SCRAM ya Bum.
theres always some Cardboard you can lay down, and honestly if its not too cold you will do alright.
Just dont forget your Trusty; Asshole be good stick and you can take a little bird bath in The Local Mc Donalds if you are feeling a little stiff and didnt get a full-night sleep because all the Drunk Trannies pissing on you at 4AM after the bars close down.
Just DO IT for the melvins!
I slept in worse places, you got a car, Ive done worse...
sleep in yer car, better still, Beer is always the answer to a good nights sleep.

Hi all,
Just to say, I'm going to both London shows and have some space if anyone needs a place to crash afterwards. I live in Highgate, North London, right by the tube. I'll also come and say hello if there are any meet ups - I just about managed to say hi to Jules and a couple of others at the ATP show last year before having a very strange evening...
PM me if you want to stay

I am curious to learn if (the) Melvins have any intention of ever playing Israel. My family is relocating to Tel Aviv later this year and I had hoped this intriguing group would be visiting the Holy Lands. Is there any chance for this? Many of you will say, Yehuda, whoever you are? why are you bothering us with such a message?
I believe the Holy Lands could benefit Mightily by a visit from (The) Melvins.

They have played Israel once before actually. Club Barby in Tel Aviv on 4-27-07. Whether it happens again, who knows.

Yes, as Idlehanz says, Michael Jordan is a Boardie here.
Unfortunate Michael Jordan story: in November 2011, he flew from Israel to London to see Melvins play at the Electric Ballroom in Camden. He made such a huge and expensive effort to get here because he'd never seen Melvins as a 4-piece and it was the chance to see them with two drummers that forced his decision. We met in the World's End before the show, got acquainted, and walked over the road to the venue just as it was opening.
As we walked in (among the first to enter) we saw that there was only one drum kit set up on stage. He looked at me. I looked at him. We both looked at Alesh the merch guy. Alesh looked back. We walked over to the merch table and Alesh told us that Coady had double-booked and had to go back to the U.S. to play a couple of gigs with his other band, leaving Dale to drum alone for the last two gigs of the tour.
You could have sawn off Michael Jordan's disappointment with a bread knife, rolled it into a huge ball and killed a load of nuns with it.
Of course, the other 99.99% of us were delighted as fuck to be given the chance to see Dale tackle it on his own again, just like the old days.
Uninteresting Michael Jordan story: the real Michael Jordan (basketball star) was born at EXACTLY the same time as me.
The End.
Any new dates for Melvins in Europe, or is it done? No Scandalnavia?

Haha Jules that was a great night nonetheless! I am stoked to see them any time, any place and with any lineup. I actually bought tickets to the Berlin shows so I'm hoping to finally get a chance to see the 4 piece lineup there.
Regarding the Israel show - I did not attend it. It would have been a dream come true for me to see them in Tel Aviv but I was living in Australia at the time. The sticker says: Aviv Mark zadak which means Aviv Mark was right. Aviv is a musician from Tel Aviv and a huge Melvins fan. Before The Melvins came to Tel Aviv he kept telling everyone that The Melvins are the greatest band in the world, and of course he was right :-) He also got me a signed poster and some other promo stickers from that show. Legend.
^ Thanks for putting me right :)

Just found a train ticket for £8 each way Hove-Bristol, so I'll go for the last night of the Residency. Hotel Ibis Bristol Centre is £35 a night if anyone's interested.
Historically, not much merch in the UK; shirts and posters if anything. Who knows what will happen, though?
Why on earth so many gigs in Bristol? It wouldn`t hurt if they had at least played one gig in Copenhagen. Well, good for the english though.

I belive they keep their back line there when they arent in Europe. Hence why they usually go through there on tour.

Back line, whats that? Bristol is also a pretty big metropolitan area, is it also near other big cities?
Edit: The term backline used to refer just to audio amplification equipment that stands behind the band on stage
HOLY SHIT. 8)

Also how's the exhange? Good I hope considering I just ordered my ticket for the Lite show.

Thanks, good to hear, apart from the shitty area but that's not going to deter me.
Excuse me, they are going to play the same setlist of Berlin (Eggnog, Lysol ecc...) in Paris and London too???
Day 1 and Day 2 means that they are playing the classic albums?
Thank You.

Yes and yes!
Eggnog isn't being advertised for the London shows from what I have seen.
any idea if they will print some endless residency cds for that endless residency euro tour?

Of course! Thats all they do, play gigs and arts and crafts. I'm waiting for the bedazzled letterpress night goat single.
Hopefully something different then the residency cd box sets they sold on the last residency tour. It wouldn't suprise me though if they show up with the same box sets and just adjust the names of the cities.

Oh Jesus Christ, I hope not. Imagine having to collect all of them.
Since i'm pretty far from Bristol, can anyone with any experience tell me what the chances are of me getting tickets from the bristol ticket shop site?
Missing these shows would be pretty awful.

Bloody hell, mate. I'm thinking the same thing. Maybe we should all buy 2 tickets, even if we only need 1 (I only need 1). Having said that, how many people are awake at 9am on a Saturday? :)

I'm not going to the first night in Bristol, only the second. But I'd buy a ticket for the first night for a fellow Boardie if I thought they were going to miss out. Settle up later, etc.

All the dates announced heretofore in her brittanic majesty's kingdom may need to be postponed as the band has procured some choice tickets to various footie matches and the fear is they may go into extra time.
If you look at the "MinnePol" webcam right now, you can see a helicopters-eye view of door-to-door busts of the band's 'associates' as they happen. Certain 'works of art' being confiscated and some pretty decent thrashings.

The deep dish pizza is worth it alone, seriously. The double door is a cool venue too, it was absolutely packed and being a short arse I didn't actually
see much of that show in comparison to Missouri but it was great nonetheless.

But yeah, I feel ya bud. Whether they stop in the mitten or not, these dates aren't looking like they're going to work in my favor.

someday when you have youngins of your own it'll all make sense. I haven't been anything but "daddy" or "asshole" for the last 6 years. and if I had said "asshole is most displeased" that would have not worked nearly as well.

Although I was never a fan of the band. I saw Testament open for Anthrax last year, they put on a great old school show..

anyone know the deal for these (US) dates? I'm assuming its Lite + 4pc. but anyone know if Big Biz is playing their own set also? or if they're bringing another band to open?

I'm pretty sure that these are the full (4pc.) line up, being that they are immedietly following the Residency dates in Europe..
..Altough "Lite" + "Big-Melvins" would be too good to be true [-o<
It'll be really nice to see the Melvins in a venue that's like the Louisville Palace. Kudos to the Taft for having the balls to book anything!
Come on, Indianapolis! If not, looks like it's 2 hrs to Cincy. Can't wait for the Melvins to obliterate my earholes.

ill be in bristol tonight, coming from oxford and havent left or eaten or showered yet, so i def wont be outside early, but if you see me inside ill want friend.
i look like my pic on here but with green and red hair, and a bit younger in the face. youll know when you see me.
Were you at stage front & centre (not that it matters as i didn't speak to anyone!)?
For what it's worth, very pleased to finally get to see a Melvins Lite show, but I have to say, Big Biz were absolutely on fire last night.
yes that would have been me, you should have come said hello. i might come back for lysol/houdini, i got london tickets but think that bristol venue will be way better, so if you see me again come chat. i might have savile hair again by then though but my face remains the same.
Too shy! I live in London, but couldn't miss Melvins Lite so visited my sisters for a coupla days. Safely ticketed up for the London shows, and would love to see Melvins Heavy at the Exchange too, but just can't do it, unfortunately.....If you still go to the London shows i promise i'll say howdy.

I brought my Son last time for Melvins Lite (He's 15) I bring him to shows all the time. They did give me a bit of a hassle, but ended up letting him in.. They told me that I should have called ahead and it wouldn't have been an issue. So I would recommend doing just that..... The staff at the Paradise is pretty cool, I have always enjoyed going to shows there.

he hasn't been there yet, neither have I. were both going for the Melvins show though. yelp reviews seem average for what its worth.
I asked a friend who is also going who has been there before. he said its an average kind of watering hole. nothing exceptional.
sounds fine. hope the sound is decent. beer selection looks pretty good. hope the lines are clean.
pretty excited to see Melvins in Hartford myself. kind of surprised they are playing here.
Nice Moose! I knew I like ya when I saw your Gob Bluth avatar...ready for the new episodes? :D I know several people who have played there and they all tell me the sound is decent. It is pretty intimate which also makes me surprised they are playing there too. My theory is they didn't wanna play the Webster cause that place sounds like shit, and maybe the old hot tub at Toad's grossed them out last time they played there with Trevor? :P Seriously though, I am glad it's Arch Street instead of the Webster, the sound in there is the worst ever, not just for fans but for the performers. (Since it is essentially an old movie theater converted with horrible slap back delay on stage.) We should start a roll call list of the tour dates like we di with the 51/51 tour!

yep, ive seen way too many great bands play at the Webster and have the show ruined by terrible fucking sound. that place sucks and it get's way too many good shows for how bad it is. ive seen way too many shows at that hole.
we'll see how Arch street it. I think it will be cool just for the change of pace. I see Dinosaur Jr. is playing there a few days before Melvins. found that interesting as well.
I wouldn't have minded Toads again because the sound is always good there. I would have loved if they played the dome at Oakdale though. that place is fucking amazing. I want to see more bands play that place.

I'm always up for a game of sell/trade/buy. Occasionally everybody wins, sometimes both get a good laugh 8)
Edit. The easiest to pry off my hands might be The Bootlicker. In the 51/51 craze, when there was a shitload of Melvins stuff almost all at once, I spent most of my savings on eBay for Melvins releases I want (nearly everything that's out). Accidentally I bought two letterpress Boootlickers - not from the same seller fortunately. That would've been just awfully embarrassing. It's not like I would keep the other letterpress CD as a play copy and the other in the archive. That's what the regular version is for - for playing, that is.

Great to see them playing in Tasmania! Saw Mudhoney at that venue a couple of years ago and it was great. Tiny venue.
<insert "map of Tasmania" reference here>
I was in contact with an bergenzian booker, who has booked Chelsea Light Moving and Unknown Mortal Orchestra amongst others. and he could tell me that there is a big chance Melvins will be touring Europe next year and that he would try to get a Bergen gig if possible.

Never saw a concert that offered dinner before. Wonder what they're serving that's worth $24.95.

I've never had dinner there, so I couldn't tell ya. but GAMH has been offering it for as long as I've been going there. And to some, it's worth it to get to sit upstairs. I just might do it for the NYE show.

I'm sure there was a dinner ticket available for the Seattle show I went to with Idle, Mr Kilgore and Grim. It was about $20 more expensive.

Yea, I think now and then the Showbox offers that too. I'd rather just sit in the Green room and get in earlier.
Do not pay the extra price for the dinner. It's not worth it! Albeit I did get a pretty good seat for Tomahawk, the food was not great, and the service was really poor. I had gotten the beef ribs with a cherry BBQ sauce, barely any meat on them bones, and it came with a salad. My buddy's vegetarian plate of eggplant parm was way better, but still not worth the price. I had always wondered if the dinner ticket was worth it at GAMH, and sadly I can say it is not.
