Nice!

I have the Human Eye, Nobunny, Tyvek, and JEFF The Brotherhood Live At Third Man LPs. All are really nice live albums. my only bitch is that there's no mp3s included so I can rock em on my iPod at work. Will be really nice to add a MELVINS one to the collection.

Ben Blackwell, who I think is the manager @ Third Man is a big MELVINS fan. He's also one of the drummers in the Dirtbombs. One time when I saw the Dirtbombs, at the end of the set he moved his drums to the middle of the audience and started to play a solo. I immediately recognized the solo as "Spread Eagle Beagle" and of course flipped out. After the show I talked to him about it and he told me "when in doubt I always ask myself 'what would Dale do?'".

That's a nice setlist. I like Buzz's Tom Waits shirt too. So I've never bought anything from Third Man before, is this gonna be on sale on the online store or anything? And is it gonna be super limited, or will we actually be able to get our hands on it?

The Vine thing was Jack's idea. He is a nice guy, a Melvins fan, and the setup at Third Man is very impressive.

You guys need to BUY THIS RECORD. Side one is a 21 minute version of Charmicarmicat. Totally brutal.

I once sold a poster that the artist had signed on the back.  The buyer only asked if there 'were any issues', I said no, the corners were sharp, etc..  I even sent him pictures that he didn't ask for.  After sending it, I get a reply a few days later.. 'I thought you said there were no issues!! If I hold the poster up to the light, I can see the artists signature!!'   :|  I told him to send it back and I'd refund him.. he decided to keep it anyways.   :?

Somewhat related; an anonymous donor paid $142K in back taxes for the Masonic Temple in Detroit to remain open.  That donor?  Jack White.

touche'

jack white donated the money but asked not to be identified.  the president of the theatre association is changing the name of the theatre to The Jack White Theater.     a little simple math puts the rest together.

they're just now releasing live shows that were taped back in october (the Shins, the Kills, and blues artist Seasick Steve) so i guess it takes a long time to produce them, even though the records have no edits or overdubs, and, according to a press release, were mixed on the spot and cut to vinyl instantaneously. does packaging take that long? or they don't want to saturate the market?

the melvins one will be out around feb of next year i guess :(

This thread and the Melvins playing there turned me onto this series. At newbury comics I recently grabbed the Kills and Seasick Steve albums, they were only $12 each! The sound quality and mixing are both top notch. I bet the Melvins one is on par with Sugar Daddy/ Endless Residency as far as sound quality. Hope that the regular version is released soon.

This isn't gonna be limited, so it's not like it has to be ordered immediately that day. You may run a chance of getting black and blue, but only from a regular order and the chances are pretty slim.

Really? that would be great, I'm a little tired of the limited edition stuff odyssey and the whole "oh crap, I couldn't get a copy" thing.

Sorry to burst yer bubbles, but there's no chance of getting the black and blue records from mail order. If you lurk around whiteswirl.com long enough, you'll eventually snag a Melvins black and blue for around $100 (2-3 months after the prices go down)

The black and blues are only bought by the people who attended the show, and are only available there, sadly. The limited aspect of it sucks.

Any idea why the recent Dead Weather black + blues were selling for $2-300 on ebay earlier this year?  Was there a lower attendance, or..something else?

Those were part of a Third Man Records Vault Package (#5) and was limited to how many people signed up. They're more desirable to Third Man collectors because it's a Jack White band.

they pressed 300 black/blue. chances are that not 300 people signed-up for a copy at the show. so there might be some left which they throw in the mailorder. very small amount though (if at all) and like mentioned before prices will come down as usual. i think you will get it below $100, it's a live record after all. prices for the END LP are also not that high.

i go for the black version, because i am impatient!
i would have loved to get honey bucket too. but still awesome setlist and they were on fire playing these songs after the euro-residency. so i bet this will sound HEAVY!

European buyers might want to wait for this to appear on the official Third Man page to save a couple of $$ on postage.

Honey Bucket was a special request by Jack White. I think it was recorded to tape but not acetate, as the acetate blanks only hold a limited amount of audio.

The show was extra brutal. Can't wait to hear the record!

He had a sweet Jukebox he was selling.  Didn't see the entire episode so don't know if he sold it.

Yep, fucking Third Man's site pissed me off. I was getting through, then when it sent me to paypal it stalled big time. So I had to start over, and then I thought, check Amazon. So I went there, and ordered it along with Saint Vitus -C.O.D.(completes the collection), which is enough to get free shipping, $30 for the two. There are now 18 brand new left at Amazon.  $6.85 is a little steep to ship a record besides.

Not pleased with the shipping. No plastic wrapper or outer plastic sleeve and it was loose in the mailer causing seam splits on all sides of the inner sleeve. If it's not wrapped in plastic it needed to be packed a little tighter for the journey. Haven't had a chance to listen yet.

I got mine today from Amazon. In perfect shape, good shipping job. Mine did come with a plastic clear sleeve. BUT, mine has a small white barcode sticker on the back cover. It's not covering any of the art/print, but it's annoying, and likely decreases value(not like I'm gonna sell it). Wondering if all copies have this, or if they slap that little barcode sticker on at Amazon. They could have put it on the plastic.

Hmm, could be. I'll check my copy later tonight, but I don't recall any barcodes on it (I ordered from Third Man). Sounds really good, nice separation on the drums and everything. Being it was direct to acetate there's no break between songs on side 2 it's just one long groove.

No barcode on mine, only the recorded live to acetate sticker on the front third man puts on all of them. It's so nice to see such an affordable and great sounding piece of Melvins vinyl that's readily available to anyone who wants one. Third Man is awesome in my book!

Halfway thru side 2. Sounds great, but I don't get what the big deal is about "direct-to-acetate". A neat process, but it doesn't make the recording stand out from any other well recorded live album. Weird how this little set is heavy on Bullhead, which is probably my favorite album. Would have liked to hear Growing Disgust or something else recent on this though.

I think the biggest deal about the direct to acetate is that there is no digital step in the process which is pretty unusual in this day and age. I know how gaga everyone is about having their shit on vinyl, but everything is either recorded, mixed, and/or mastered digitally now. They must just work on the mix in soundcheck, record, and then cut the plates direct from the acetate. Fred Cole and some noise artists are probably the only other people still doing this.

Got mine today, shipped here to NY in two days. Also got Drive-by Truckers and Neil Hamburger.

What does everyone else's have etched in the run off? I can't quite make it out on my copy. Neil Hamburger's is, Side A: Are we in on the joke... Side B: Or Just part of it. DBT is, side A: The cops showed up.... Side B: So did Poppa Hood

Woke up to find my copy waiting for me this morning. I noticed some writing in the run off while checking it out, but my eyes were not working too well yet. I'll look back later to see if I can figure it out. Such an awesome release I hope they do more of these down the road. Here's a video of the process if your curious.

Yet another knock against vinyl.

Think I'm gonna have to dub this onto cassette for the truck. I bought a pack of 90 min tapes at Best Buy awhile back. My '02 GMC has a stock CD/cassette player. I often dub vinyl-only releases to tape for driving.

Guys, no discussions about sharing digital copies of in-print records, please.

I know most of you buy the records, but especially in this case we are talking about a non-limited release that is easy to obtain.

I will ban/delete people whose major focus of activity on this board is sharing copies of records/CDs that can be purchased. One person is already gone as of this morning.

If you want to make a copy of a record YOU OWN, that is your right. It is inevitable that this will be floating around, but it's not the function of this message board to disseminate it.

Has there been any talk of a site to host mp3's of Melvins?  For the band to sell i mean.
i remember when the Endless Residency cd's came out Haze had set up a page to download from the old shop, i think you guys would still sell a ton of records plus lots of digital. I will always buy physical copies and would also pay for mp3's for the convenience.

someone that posted a request for this album in digital form several times. Looking back at his posts, his primary activity was leeching mp3s. I don't recall the username - something that started with "J".

So does Third Man Records own the rights to these recordings or does the band, i'm not sure how it all works. If you guys wanted to release the digital would you have to go through them or can the band do whatever you want with them?

I don't have anything to do with that stuff, so I have no idea.

My guess is that it's very unlikely for this to be released in digital form in the foreseeable future - it JUST came out, is cheap, and readily available.

Don't worry - Melvins are hard at work making more music for everyone. Tons more on the horizon.

Side One has a pop/skip/jump about a third of the way in...
Side Two has one during Your Blessend too.

Anyone else experience this with their copy?

Listened to my copy last night and yes - ran into the same issue. I wonder if someone is not listening to their test pressings?

mine plays fine

Mine's good here too. No skips. The artwork and basic design is cool. Did TMR just start adding front covers to their releases? Cuz the Neil Hamburger one from a few years ago is a plain black cover, with no print/artwork.

they should send me the test pressings, i spin those fuckers like they are standard issues, let them sit on the deck and  gather dust for days too.

I think they started adding art when they started recording to acetate. Which I think the Melvins is the third or fourth in that series. I have a Black Lips Live @ TMR and it's the same. Just a plain black jacket.

Finally got a chance to spin mine loudly in an otherwise empty house.

Holy fuck yeah!

I think I'm gonna buy a second "just in case" copy.

I really hope I get a spare couple of hours soon to digitize this bad boy.

Any Word on a Digi copy?

Quote from: Snivlemdotcom on September 26, 2013, 09:28:05 AM

My guess is that it's very unlikely for this to be released in digital form in the foreseeable future - it JUST came out, is cheap, and readily available.

Who got banned?

someone that posted a request for this album in digital form several times. Looking back at his posts, his primary activity was leeching mp3s. I don't recall the username - something that started with "J".

Jarjaxle's old user name?

Does anyone have a 3D printer that could make a copy of the record for me? I would pay $30 for it.

Sniv's looks like it might not have a centre label, but it might be the light. You can have one of mine if you like:

The one time I talked to him on the air he was an incredulous dick to me, but I dug the show anyway. Even more interesting than the show are all of the conspiracy theories about his private life. Look em up.

I still have not listened to it.  Probably tomorrow AM.
