''we have a whole other album that's done, but it's a project that we can't even talk about yet. Hopefully it will come out by the end of the year.'' - Buzz
I really hope this is (what im referring to as) Melvins XL. Buzz said more than a year ago about an idea to have a version of the band with Jared, Coady and Trevor all playing bass together - one big Melvins line-up. There was a photo posted on here of them all together too. Jeff Pinkus was in attendance also. Could that be the next project?? Buzz, Dale, Jared, Coady, Trevor and Jeff on every song!!! I really hope so!
Outside of that other ideas that floated around or were rumours as i recall were...
-another Lustmord collaboration.
-a collaboration with Void Manes.
-more Melvins Lite since the band said they had recorded 50 songs with Trevor and that they would come out at some point.
-a potential album featuring ONLY Buzz and Dale. Like that gig they played with Dale on that little cocktail drum kit.
-maybe a record with Steven McDonald.
What would you like or expect to see?
I'd like to see them do an album with the remaining members of America. Get Buzz and Jarred in there on some good harmonies. Maybe do a few covers. Ventura Highway would be cool.

I'd really like another Melvins Lite album
i was also really hoping for a 7" with Melvins doing "Moving to Florida" and "Graveyard" by Butthole Surfers.
Another Melvins 1983 album ;)

Im not a fan of 'Moving To Florida' but yes i've always wanted 'Graveyard' to get the studio treatment. Especially after that live video performance outdoors they did. Wish they had included that song on Hold It In. As for other covers, the same goes for Devo's 'Mr DNA' that the band played on tour with Jared and Coady around '09. That would make an excellent addition to an album. Funny how the band are recording a lot of older "traditional" cover songs lately. You know - Ballgame, Shaving Cream, Tie A Pecker, PGX3, You're In The Army Now etc.

Remember, they said they do that because these songs are public domain. No legal hassles for covering them. No royalties to pay.
I never remember the band saying that! Although it does make sense. Personally i'd much prefer Osborne originals to covers though.
Anything, as long as it's not Jeff Pinkus. Seriously, the guy isn't even into the band's music.

Venomous Concept too but I don't think that would be considered "surprising". My first two thoughts were an album with Krist Novoselic or Kevin Rutmanis but not sure either would be surprising.

Curious about the September album even moreso with two Melvins albums to hold us over.
I have absolutely no insider knowledge but i guess the next record would be more around Oct/Nov, later in the year than September. Assuming it is for this year of course!
It is the Melvins+Kross 10" "Quadruple Fantasy"
Buzz Osborne - vocals, guitar
Jeff McDonald - vocals, guitar
Steven McDonald - vocals, bass
Dale Crover - vocals, drums
Side A:
Crazy World (Frightwig Cover)
Side B:
Rain (Beatles Cover)
Yang Yang (Yoko Ono Cover)
I wish....
Another wishful thinking possibility:
Buzzo - Guitar, Vocals
Dale - Bass, Vocals
Brian Walsby - Drums, "Vocals"

I know the Flaming lips Zareeka is a lot like this but there's this electronic fella that goes by "The Electric Company" and he put out two records that are supposed to be played simultaneously and goddamn it's awesome. I used to have a dj mixer a long time ago that had four inputs on it and I would always throw on to different records and play them together because a lot of the time it worked well. Two of my favorites to play together was Squarepushers "Go Plastic" and pretty much any Merzbow. That shit sounded really cool.
I would be totally down with a COD companion to be played together!
Maybe it's something with jack white. I'm only throwing that out there because of the re-releases and because of his superstar status they might not be able to talk about it due to his managers and contracts and blah blah blah. I don't know how I'd feel about that match up. It wouldn't excite me as much as a Kevin reunion but it may be interesting.
I guess the only other people in the Melvins circle of friends along those lines (superstar) would be krist noveselic (which lets just hope it would be better than "maybe I am amused") and maybe Adam jones! Maybe he's tired of waiting around for the tool album and decided to jam with the Melvins.
No, it's like this. They're gonna re-record ZZ Top's First Album w/ Billy Gibbons.

Shortly after that, they're gonna record an album's worth of early Van Halen covers with Dweezil Zappa.

I was driving listening to the radio today (??!!) and VH's "Cradle Will Rock" came on ... as it was ending the DJ just started yelling ENCORE! ENCORE!! over the outro ... and then they played it again ... that made me laugh, made me smile, and made my day!

Yes, i wondered whether it was someone "high profile" too. There doesn't appear to be many realistic candidates but then who has a clue who the band may know or cross paths with. I'd like Steven to get his own album with the band and as good as Melvins + Krist sounds, i don't think i would be as eager to see that now as i would have been 20 years ago. I wouldn't want to see Jack White either. If it is a new bassist whom feasibly COULD be included i'd like to see Shane Embury be involved. The recent Melvins/Napalm Death shows have convinced me it would make for a great collaboration. Perhaps something heavy again too!

Crover: There'll be two new Melvins things, probably, this year.
Osborne: We are working on a new album right now. Almost done. And then we'll take it from there. It's something we've never done before. It has a twist to it that we've never done.
Crover: There's gonna be some reissues of [1992's Kiss-satirizing solo records] coming out too. As well as a surprise fourth one. Remember, there was only three. The solo records, the Kiss parody, we parodied Gene, Peter and Paul – there's one left over! Somebody's gonna do a fourth one. You can probably guess who that person might be.
Most likely McDonald.

Crover: There'll be two new Melvins things, probably, this year.
I'm also working on a solo record that I've been planning for a while. It's gonna be on Joyful Noise.

I always find it a bit funny how the band (and Buzz in particular) often make such a point about this. The fact that the latest thing they are involved with is something completely new and uncharted for them, however then we hear it and it sounds basically like Melvins again. Although i understand if the process is different for the band themselves.
"Actually there are two records coming out. One of them will be a record with Steve; it's a double record. The other one is sort of a secret, but it's going to be us and Steve and Pinkus. So two bass players. Jeff came to town and we ended up recording some stuff. We didn't plan on it, but we recorded a whole other record. It just happened." - Dale.

Im surprised you guys haven't responded to or got excited about this album news!!!
Maybe i love the intrigue and the interest TOO much!? Anyway any ideas what this double album could be? Makes me wonder if it is a proper double record as in 2 CD's or whether they mean 80 minutes of music like an old double gatefold record in the 70's or such. Buzz loves The Who's 'Tommy' so this could be the Melvins version of an epic. Maybe that recently mentioned "history of rock n roll" record that was discussed by Steve?
Alternatively if it's something unique and weird perhaps a double album could mean something like what Neurosis or The Flaming Lips did where you play both CD's at the same time to hear the "full" songs. Or maybe its the same songs on both but done differently on each in some way? Maybe Buzz and Dale on one and Steve and Dale on the other?? Either way im expecting something slightly odd to come out of this.
totally excited about these projects
cool. looking forward to the new tunes with Steve.

'Dale Crover Solo'
i'm excited
Come on and be the P!nkus record. But I thought it was only 8 songs, I was pretty stoned.
I got this news on April 1st. Glad to hear it's actually real!

In case no one saw the twitter post...
melvins.com @melvinsdotcom
"Announcing our new, double album, a first in Melvins history:
A Walk With Love and Death, out July 7 via Ipecac..."
Sounds interesting. The title comes from a John Houston film of the same name. I think it's from the late 60s I hope it's cohesive and not just 18 songs thrown together.
Oops. I just saw the other topic. Sorry.
We know there is another album due somewhat soon-ish featuring Steve and Pinkus but also Steve mentioned briefly about Buzz asking him and his brother to work on a "history of rock and roll" album project. Im guessing that one will be AFTER this Steve and Pinkus one next year or such. Anyway intrigued by this and because i love those sorts of tidbits it made me wonder if this release might actually be another covers record. One that charts rocks progression from song to song. After all the band have quite a few songs they have performed fairly recently that have never got the studio treatment. Plus we saw the band recording 'Leech' in that Mix With The Masters video clip a few months ago. Might that get a re-work job just like 'Euthanasia' has?? Could it end up including these???
64 I Want To Hold Your Hand (The Beatles)
69 Stop (James Gang)
70 Saviour Machine (David Bowie)
71 Brown Sugar (Rolling Stones)
77 Pinhead (Ramones)
79 Mr DNA (Devo)
84 Leech (Green River)
87 Graveyard (Butthole Surfers)
97 Bacon Industry (Karp)

I would love a recording of Bacon Industry. It would be a bit awkward recording that with Steve instead of Jared though.
I wonder if the Pinkus / McDonald album is gonna be like them playing on separate tracks or even both of them together but on different channels like the double-drum albums?
Three of those covers are in the can along with a forth one not counting Leech.
I wish they would hurry up and put that new one out.

If that is indeed correct info, then i suspect it's the most recent three with Steve. I Want To Hold..., Saviour Machine and Brown Sugar.

who knows? i expect Pinkus playing banjo 8)
There is that. And one of the covers is correct, but I'm not sure Steven is one it.
Technically I Want to Hold Your Hand is the Moving Sidewalks version of the Beatles song but that might just be semantics.

Nah man, no "might just be" about it; them semantics are key ...

Two months since the last album was released and a double-album at that!
Imagine being a RHCP fan waiting 4-5 years between albums or even worse a Tool fan.

I am!! Im just curious, and eager to hear about what comes next. Always am with Melvins.
I want another Trilogy. Three albums in three months.
Could the Melvins & Void Manes album be a possibility for later this year?
Following a few links i found a Void Manes video with the following description...
"Void Manes plays gloom-psych, and has collaborated with the Melvins, Hepa-Titus, and Mike Patton. Forthcoming releases include a collaborative album with the Melvins paying tribute to Throbbing Gristle."
Also there is this photo on Void Manes Insta from Feb 2017 showing Buzz working on "TG sessions".

I would say with this Pinkus album being released in April it's likely there will be another album this year if 2016 and 2013 are any guides.
Void Manes collab will be the new Vinny Interview.
