Melvins, Redd Kross and ShitKid? C'mon. This is my dream come true. Here are my reasons.
1) Melvins is my favorite band in the world since 1987 when I first saw them live opening for D.R.I. and Poison Idea and then picked up the Deep Six compilation the next day so I could listen to them again.
2) Redd Kross is my favorite band in the world since 1987 when I first heard their cover of the Rolling Stones "Citadel" on the Enigma Variations compilation and I immediately went and bought Neurotica so I could listen to them some more.
3) Melvins have the bass player of Redd Kross in their band.
4) Redd Kross have the drummer of Melvins in their band.
5) Nothing is more perfect than having your two favorite bands not only tour together but also share the same rhythm section.
6) ShitKid is going to be a great opening band. I saw them with Dale Crover Band and thought they were amazing. Great songwriting, great performance, totally unique and weird while being very catchy.

I don't know anything about ShitKid beyond they're from Sweden and toured Europe with Melvins and Redd Kross. Redd Kross are playing hour sets too.

Greatest!?? More like one of their worst!! Redd Kross are okay, not very good but okay. ShitKid are terrible. I feel embarrassed for Melvins associating themselves with an act like that. For any tour to be the greatest Melvins tour ever it would have to be with Kevin performing Kevin only era songs.
Have to agree with Ian on this one. Red Kross is nothing more than slightly ok, Shitkid is totally out of line, boring as could be.

The bands that really stick out from Norway, like Motorpsycho that are in the same league as Melvins, outblast any of the swedish acts. Entombed and Meshuggah aren't even close. But there are decent swedish stuff, but Shitkid ain't worth mentioning, they're just annoying, a bit like Butcherettes.
Check out the noremwegian jazz, prog, psych scene, Lino, you can fins some treasures there.
If Redd Kross tunes such as "Kill Someone You Hate" are HAPPY then call me a HAPPY music fan. There has always been a huge portion of people that do not "get" Redd Kross, which has always been good for me as it allows me to always get a ticket to the show! It is very much the equivalent of Metal Heads not "getting" Melvins. It's ok with me!
And ShitKid write amazing songs. For example, the songs "You", "Favourite Thing" and "Sugar Town" are stellar.
I for one am thankful that Melvins are bringing them out on the road. Beats the fuck out of some of the openers I have seen.

Well, I listened to a couple of Shitkid things and wasn't real impressed and I'm not going to go out of my way to look for more.... but I'm keeping an open mind until I actually see them live.

I saw Redd Kross open for STP and Meat Puppets in 94 and all I can remember was that the keyboards were so loud in the mix it ruined the whole thing. could have been STP's sound guy being dumb or spiteful, but who knows. glad they don't have that sound anymore. i'm psyched for this lineup. it's on a Monday (Blechhh!!!). we'll see. still haven't heard Shitkid but based on the fact that the Melvins are making an ep with them and they opened for Dale's recent tour, that seems cool. not sure I can make it in time for their set anyway. who knows? :anonymous:

Think Deep Purple instead of Thompson Twins. The keyboards used on that tour and album "Phaseshifter" filled things out in an incredibly HEAVY way. I wish they still had that element actually.

i, too, am skeptical about Redd Kross... but as good melvins fans we should accept that some bands are delicate to enter and may not be "gotten" after many listens.

I'm with you. I think Steven is a nice counterpoint to Buzz and Dale - weird and a little giddy, but not in an overly cheeky hipstery way. More in a "damn, this guy is really into this shit" sorta way. I'm pretty sensitive to the melvins on-stage (or even audience) atmosphere getting fucked with, but I found myself strangely ok with Steve's adjustment to it.

I'm assuming I'd start with Teen Babes from Monsanto. That's got two songs they play live since Steven joined (yes, I know they're covers).
I'd probably go outward in time from that 1984 EP, though in pretty certain there's supposed to be a golden era somewhere in the 90s

besides the early stuff I recommend 'phaseshifter'... this is relatively punchy/heavy for redd kross, great songs too. then 'neurotica' and 'third eye' which is really catchy/poppy.
I really like all of these albums but, as with many other bands, I need to be in the mood for them.

One of the few choices by Dale I agree on, is Black Heart Procession. I`m more in line with the taste Buzz has, with Foetus and the other acts he prefers.

Imagine if someone was first introduced to the Melvins through "Okie From Muskogee" (Weird Name for a Country Band!), "In The Rain" (What is this horrible pop music?), "Shit Sandwich" (do these guys even know how to play?) or the Chicken Switch record (good lord these guys suck!)
If you started with anything from Annette's Got The Hits, Born Innocent, Teen Babes From Monsanto, Neurotica, Phaseshifter or Researching The Blues you would have picked a different band for each one of those albums that you might compare Redd Kross to. Some bands have such a diverse catalog that your entry point can really mess things up - or turn you on.
(See Sun City Girls, Mr. Bungle, The Residents etc. etc.)

Teen Babes is where I started! Then jump into Neurotica and Born Innocent. Then do into Phaseshifter and Annette's Got The Hits. Phaseshifter (along with Stoner Witch) are, in my opinion the two greatest rock albums of the 90s.
