Melvins forever, bitches.
:) just shut up and moderate, don't participate you nerd
Damn, what a stupid question, you can't compare Melvins and Tomahawk, that's like you would compare a hamburger with spaghetti. :D
i would say, both are great, but Tomahawk is more like "take the cd, listen to it and then put it away for some month because it gets boring"
For me it's like that, I could listen to the Melvins 24/7.
Tomahawk kicks ass. But Melvins are just way better.
There was a period of about 12 months where I listened to a Melvins album everyday. I liked the first Tomahawk record quite a bit. I've listened to Mit Gas about three times and it is now collecting dust.
I have seen the Melvins live about 8 or 9 times and they have always put on an incredible show. I always leave feeling as if I have gotten my moneys worth. I have seen Tomahawk play three times. 1 time they were pretty blah, 1 time they were amazing, and 1 time they were just decent.
So I guess in my battle of the bands I would have to declare Melvins victorious.
It just comes down to the fact that the Melvins dominate live.

That is very true.
T H E M E L V I N S !
F o r e v e r.
I'm still wondering why the Melvins didn't headline the Geek Show Tour.
I like em both. I like the Melvins better however. I had the opprotunity to see them 5 times this year.
NYE
California tour with Adam Jones, Altamont opening
Both Geek show dates in SF
and now I'll get to see them 8/9 in SF again.
I hope they get around to a NYE show in SF again, so it'll be 6 times. :D
Hard question! both realse some of the best music getting realsed today!

there are hundreds of great bands around, check out the "what are YOU
listening to..." threads to get a wider picture. i could name dozens of bands
which i like more than tomahawk, but yeah only a few that are comparable
with the mighty melvins (residents for example!)
tomahawk bores me. they just remind me of how much i miss the Jesus Lizard.
btw is it just me or does anybody think John Stanier is way overrated?
yeah that's exactly what i think when i'm listening to tomahawk...
jesus lizard was great, i own every release from them but i have to admit
that it get's very boring after you heard a half year nothing else than jesus
lizard... it's a little bit to repetitive but well, a thousand times better than
tomahawk anyway. i like stanier... he's alright
One cannot ocmpaire the melvins to tomahawk. 'Tis sacrelige. Flying brown horse: -=+//*//
i would definitley go with the melvins.
Melvins ,Better , Forever.

Tomahawk's first album was great, but a little too Jesus Lizardy. Their next, excluding Harlem Clowns, was even better because they expanded their sound into something unique. Lately i've been listening to more Tomahawk then Melvins. If the Melvins broke up and Tomahawk put out eighteen more unique albums, then my vote would go to Tomahawk.
definately Melvins. Better live band too
Clearly it is Melvins, you fools.
Turnacus is back! :D
  ...

Tomahawk is some boring shit.
I love Tomahawk. One of my top ten since they came out. But they would have to all make it their primary creative outlet and release new material and tour as often as the Melvins to make it even close. Also, considering that their 3rd album was such a dud (IMO) they would definitely need to be in top form like their first 2 albums.

Never. 'Oddfellows' was a bit mediocre but the other three are great!
So fitting you post this reply with your current av! :D

Why the need to compare? It's childish.

WhoisMrBungle was a younger man when he started this thread. Just sayin'.
The only comparison that I need to really do is:
Silence vs. (Name of Band)
In the case of Melvins, Melvins > Silence
In the case of Tomahawk, Silence > Tomahawk
I just have always felt that their music was kind of "phoned in". The sum is smaller than all of it's parts.
I like Tomahawk quite a lot but I agree on it not being as good as the musicians other bands.
