He has become far more confident now. Drummer/producer Don Zientara is performing with Lally on the current tour, and afterward Lally plans to combine talents with Melvins members Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover to play opening gigs before Melvins concerts.

Can't wait to hear that. Lally is one of the greatest bassists ever. He always lays down a solid groove without overplaying. He has a great vocal style too, ie "By You" & "The Kill".
Anyone have that Ataxia CD he did w/ John Frusciante? Wondering if it's worth checking out. Tell me John doesn't sing on it and it should be.
I really like the Ataxia album. You have to take some primal screaming John Frusciante vocals, but i like all of Frusciante's ish too. Lally lays down some thick lines and it flows through five ten to fifteen minute songs beautifully. There suppose to be a part two to the Ataxia sessions that i have been waiting on. I believe Fugazi is just on a hiatus. Ian Mackaye is producing and part of a cool ass band called The evens. I am excited about this prospect with Lally and the Melvins.
lally and buzz have been friends for a long time. he's the next joe!

hey! i think thats unfair. watch fugazi's instrument dvd and you can get a feel for lally's attitude and style. his talents and attitudes just get magnified as time goes on.

Unfair? Me? About what? I was reffering to that Minor Threat concert that took place in the mid 90s, that's what I didn't get. Even the mid 80s would not have been close.
I have Instrument and enjoyed it a lot, very inspirative. I think I like the band much more than their music. Actually, 13 Songs is the only Fugazi album I have and I'm not planning to buy anything else actually.
i'm not much of a fugazi fan myself, but i have a lot of respect for them.

norecess, if you would give fugazi's-end hits a try you might think differently. That was the one that kicked me in the ass and i have gotting more into them since. They got very sonic over the years .More than just punk, kind of like how the melvins have come so far in variations of sounds over the years.Alot of fugazi's ish is killing.

i'd like to hear crover play with les claypool. it would sicken me if the album was released as "melvins" but i think buzz and dale with les on bass would be quite interesting. the rhythm section would completely overpower buzz. the original primus drummer is quite heavy and crover-ish in a sense. the time i saw them he was back for the tour and the drumming + claypool was really really really good. i am not a gigantic primus fan but it was one of the best performances i've ever been to.

They do put on a good show. Buzz always talks shit about Primus, though, so i doubt he'd do it.

To bring on two other bands, compared to Black Dice, Lightning Bolt is a one trick pony as well. They've more conceptualized their music, while Black Dice choosed for - as Lightning Bolt jokingly calls it - intellectualization (you almost have to be an intellectual to spell that word correctly, thanks Google). But within that concept, they're getting more creative and better, but after a couple of albums I think it's over, and that's why you have to keep progressing. It's getting slightly off-topic, but I think my point is made.

Me too. He did an excellent job of course, but added nothing special that I would have epected from an extraordinary bass player.
Just got Joe's new CD "From There To Here" in the mail Wednesday from Dischord, along with Antelope(6 song EP) and the Rites Of Spring disc. Joe's album is a nice surprise. His vocals aren't quite as intense & heavy as the few Fugazi songs he sang on; I think he went for an intentional quieter sound (much like the way Bootlicker is quiet). Solid basslines of course along with the drumming(Amy Farina), and Wino plays some souful, bluesy at times, riffage.

They just had the one album and the 7 inch, all on the CD plus one bonus track (Other Way Around).
joe lally played with coady and dale at the troy, ny show. buzz was alone near the bar while they were playing and i asked him if they were going to be recording anything with joe. he said he wouldn't say no to it, but there are no plans. i told him it must have just been some kind of internet rumor and he agreed.

Yeah, what Rev. Mike said. All the RoS stuff is on one CD. Then there's One Last Wish, which came after RoS, same lineup but w/ Michael Hampton on guitars, and Edward Janney on bass instead of guitar. And also Happy Go Licky which is the same lineup as OLW, but it's mainly jamming and tape loops, not alot of lyrics. There's a goldmine of good stuff in the Dischord catalog old and new.
