This is a what if type of question. But in reality, it will eventually happen. When it does I hope there will be a wealth of quality material. I think I will be kind of depressed, really. I feel there is no other band like them nor will there ever be. I often wonder if they will ever be appreciated on a more broader scale like they deserve.
I will somehow pull it together and sludge on, if only as a shadow of the man I am today.
Seriously, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. What would Buzz and Dale do? Retire? They seem to enjoy doing the Melvins thing. I don't think either of them would like working with other musicians as much as they do working with each other. I don't think they have f-u money either. I think they'll be around longer than the Stones.
If they break up tomorrow, I'll call it a hell of a run and be grateful that I was able to see them 8 times when they were around, and will continue to listen to their music daily.
Great art is rarely widely appreciated. A small group of people (on the grand scheme of things) usually know about stuff like this. Think about other bands and art forms. It would be nice to be able to turn on the radio and hear a Melvins song, but it will never happen. They are part of The Whitney Biennial with that Cameron Jamie film this year, I'd say that's pretty damn cool.
I'll die inside.
But seriously, I'd be kind of distraught, because they are one of the very few bands that are still making music that's actually good.
 it would be the end of good music..
Don't be silly!! They'll never split 8)
Dont be silly. theres tonnes of good music out there.

true
NEVER!
they will keep pumping out stuff even on life support.
we`ll preserve their brains.
1. happy
2. satisfied
3. educated
:bs:
The way I see it is Buzz will decide when to stop and it will be the perfect time to stop. Buzz is a good driver you know so he probably knows when to park the thing and have a sleep?

I think thats what they have in mind too.

It's not just their music why they're my favorite band.
It will be a very emotional day but it won't happen for a long time I'm sure.

Agreed.
It's the only band that I never grow tired of, and also the only band in which I never have to force myself to listen too.
Whenever I listen, it gives me the same volumes of pleasure, no other band does this.
they're the band that plays automatically in my head, at anytime.
i'd probably cry, i'm serious!
I'd become an alcoholic.
I could imagine it now.... waking up on a cold morning in 2015 and getting a Billboard.com hologram beamed to my kitchen table from space and reading "Melvins, band of 32 years has decied to call it quits." And with that I don't know what I'll do....
buzz or dale would have to die.
so we'd definately be sobbing.
I wouldn't be in my right state of mind for the couple of days to pass.
This day will never happen. They'll always be around.

Wishful thinking. But they should be around for years. The more I think about it, the upcoming Big Business/Melvins project may top everything they have done so far. Which is saying a lot.

think about it, they just injected some new blood by absorbing big business into their world,
they will go on forever, and i can even imagine a cod when they are in their golden years!
dale's respirator will be sampled for the beat, and buzz will make squishing noises with
distortion and amplification on his colostomy bag, seated in his wheelchair
come to think of it I haven't actually lived on Earth when the melvins haven't existed. maybe it'll signal the world exploding, or some shit. or maybe not.
i'm right.

points on writing that.
haha.
It's four years old, but Buzz probably still feels the same way (taken from an interview with Mark Prindle.)
Could you retire now if you wanted to?
Oh no way! We're not millionaires by any means. We're thousandaires! Not even a lot of thousands. I can't take a year off, no fuckin way. And I don't wanna take a year off! I don't understand why people, when they make a lot of money, stop putting out records. What do they do, sit around and count change? They get to the point in their lives when they shouldn't worry about anything, yet they make music that's dumbed down so it will sell. I mean, who's putting a gun to your head? I have heard so much out and out musical shit that comes out when people make a lot of money.
I can see Buzz and Dale doing the Melvins until one of them is dead. And every album will still manage to rock harder than anything put out by people half their age. Hell, they're already doing that.
It won't happen. They're a band that gets progressively better and better. Look how amazing Bullhead was, then listen to Eggnog, and it's even better. Then listen to LYSOL! WOW!
unless one of them dies.
(knock on wood)

Or loses all their limbs. In that case I'm ready for the a-capella Melvins.
another nice family friendly melvins thread
If the Melvins broke up before I got a chance to see them live, I'd be incredibly depressed for weeks most likely. If I do get to see them before then I'd probably still feel the same way.... :(
bad
you guys really want to see what it's like when they break up?
here's my 22...
The Melvins are going to play longer than the Rolling Stones.

hehe I agree! i dont think any other band can step to melvins in terms of quantity, quality and diversity.. The most highly rated band in my book. plus i cant imagine anyone who has all the melvins albums liking another band better. anyone?

easy cap'n, easy now. don't go all Mark David Chapman on us. no one wants to hurt you here. theres no need to result to violence. we love you. the melvins love you.
remember, this is only a "what if" scenario, no one is going to break-up the melvins. don't go doing anything we'll all regret. melvins will continue, I promise.

i dont think they can outplay the living dead.
for a start,
they need to get some exercise.

I beg your pardon. are you suggesting the melvins have weight issues? I'm pretty sure that both dale and buzz suffer from a very serious condition known as Dunlaps Syndrome. not simply lack of excercise and over-eating/drinking, but a MUCH more serious problem. roughly 16 million americans suffer from Dunlaps Syndrome. the rest are just fat-ass's.
what exactly is Dunlaps Syndrome, you ask? ...........................
what is it? :p
