THE MELVINS have set "A Senile Animal" as the title of their new album, due on October 10 via Ipecac Records. The band's first recording with new members Coady Willis (drums) and Jared Warren (bass) from BIG BUSINESS was recorded in Los Angeles.

Commented mainman Buzz Osborne: "I'm very pleased with the results and I can't wait to play this stuff live."

THE MELVINS' most recent release was the "A Live History of Gluttony and Lust" CD, which came out in May 2006 through Ipecac Recordings. It is a live rendition of their 1993 "Houdini" album.

Hmmm...the Melvins never fail to surprise on the record name front

Excellent news!

Interesting that they've already got a title for it despite only recording for a couple of weeks.

EDIT: I forgot what a well drilled unit the Melvins are!

Sometimes I see anagrams everywhere, the more you practice at making them, the easier it gets. But a lot of vowels definitely helps.

Anal mean is lie
Amelie is anal

Shit, an extra 'n' ;)

I haven't been this excited about a Melvins album since H.A.T was coming out. And then I managed to spoil it by getting hold of downloads off the net before it's release.
when it came out - there was only one track I hadn't already heard.
It kind of spoiled it for me..
So I recommend you don't make the same mistake.
Don't download pre-release tracks because you won't be able to resist listening to them over a hundred times - and then when you get the album .. nothing is a suprise anymore.

Let's all stand together..
Resist the temptation..
No pre-downloading..

Hell, I'm not even going to listen to the sample track that ipecac are going to have on their site!

Oh well, if that's it, I'm more than used to that. Probably one of the reasons I find myself buying lots of albums lately I have never heard before, a aQ (http://aquariusrecords.org/) review will do most of the times. And with certain labels and people involved, you can't go wrong really.

I won't wait, that "builing excitement" shit is for the birds. That's precoius hours of my life I could be hearning new MELVINS music that I'm not. I get the same excitement rush waiting ofr it to D/L. Plus, I get 98 % of the music I buy from my friends record store and I have in the past been in the position where I had to let him sell my copy and wait a couple of days to get my own. I'd rather feel free to let some other MELVINS fan get there hands on it and help out a friend.

Just don't D/L instead of buying it altogether, 'cause that's bullshit.

I know i was a bit excited for p.o.t.r.e. to come out. I was in NY for a first time visit (probably only time), and went to a record store that played THE BLOATED POPE when i was checking out cd's. It blew me away, but was completely different than the most of the album. So i just like hearing the album in it's entirety on the day it is released.
I like p.o.t.r.e., and will be ready to pick this up on the day it comes out on cd, vinyl if it's going to be distributed in that format.

well...yeah i read that interview, i just don't know what i could be missing, looking at a simple vector tracing of a bird, a snowman, and some stock photos and illustrations.  i guess i just want something a little more involved, like with the stag artwork, or some of the stuff she did in Neither Here Nor There.....maybe she just blew her load on that book and has been half assing everything for a while since then......

A different take here, but when I was playing the new Houdini yesterday and Spread Eagle Beagle was on, I had to think of the cover of a book I've read, The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. Now that I've finished the book, I understand it's a man fighting in the dark; somewhere between the real world and our unconscious world. That's what Dale reminds me of too, on SEB. As if he's playing in the total dark, and attacks invisble demons randomly, all by instinct.

Oh yeah, so, and then it hit me the new Houdini artwork is also has nothing to do with that vague observation.

whens the gudamnn leak coming through and why am i scared of this album? well actually i know why. anything that involves anything new concerning them really hypes me up----- my safety net of sludgey drool was banished long ago and ive come to terms with everything new. im a big fan of leaks. i tend to give an album more of a try if its before the release date. some pschological dependency on immediate grattification.

anyway,
lets wrap it up----
big business is better venture than the last album- im not saying im NOT a jelvins fan i just much preferred the oddness of the lustmord collab.

it all comes down to sharing really. learned in pre-k - have yet to perfect.

as always:

Why does making yourself wait extra time to hear a album make it any better. Does the album age like wine? The first time you hear a good album is always the best, no matter if its a month before it releases or the second.

And Live is always better.

okay then... that movie with "the dude" that everyone is enamored with around here.  I'd say it takes a close second to sienfeld  :D.
whats it called again?  the big lebowski, right?    don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it, it just never blew me away.  I'm tough on movies as a general rule.

but remember that scene in jackie brown when bridgette fonda is painting her toenails?  doesn't she ask robert deniro to blow on them or something?

wowwee!  who knew?  not me!
i knew i'd miss something if i stayed away too long.  now i sorta wish i hadn't returned till october 3rd.

i've decided, while reading this lengthy thread, that i will download about 10% of the album.  maybe one or two songs, and listen to them a lot.  i need to know what it sounds like, but i don't want to ruin the whole experience.  (as if listening to it is ruining it.....?)
then again.........not knowing what it sounds like at all would be pretty cool........

AH! i'm excited.  for the first time in a while.  weeee

What also doesn't make sense is the dates:

tour starts in Sacremento on Sept 6, 2006

The release date for A Senile Animal is October 10,2006

Why start a tour with out the new release to sell? I mean i'm not complaining, but does it make good business sense? Maybe it's because they are all so busy?

I remember the HAT tour and by the time I saw the first show that year I had all of HAT memorized.

So why is it that almost every single album gets leaked before the release date? I know bigger labels give tons of promo copies to radio stations, and they usually have asshole DJs who go home at lunch just to be the first dork to put on album on Limewire or something, but what would stop a Melvins album from being kept in the dark until that fateful Tuesday? Ipecac would surely give out some promo copies, but is that the only way that H.A.T. ended up being heard by us folks? Is there something about this whole process that I'm missing?

The same thing is done by some of the people who are given Ipecac promo copies. Hopefully those who download Melvins studio releases will go out and buy the actual albums.

Ha, that means this weed is working. I finally found a coffeeshop near my work with quality stuff! There are two shops literally within 20 seconds from where I work, but this one is located on my walk back to the metro station (a 2 minute walk), and it's almost next to the cult videotheque I rent movies on a daily basis.

Life is beautiful, but coffee gets cold.

I've never used a wishlist, have no idea what it is. Does it automatically search for things you add to it?

I just basically type in a search each day;.

Yep, it performs a search every few minutes, I'm not sure, and if there are results you'll be alerted, just as normal search results

Is that 22 fish? How many albums have they put out? Maybe the half fish on the upper right is half because it represents Eggnog.

The color of the background is reminiscent of water, but the white part of the water looks like a faded pic of some sort of close-up cross section of bones. Maybe the ear-drum cavity?

I see what you mean, a friend of mine has the same 'problem'. I'll admit it has an eighties vibe indeed, and usually I don't like that sound a lot too, but for Jared's voice combined with his bass playing and Coady's (Cody? Damn, the guy is a Melvin now and still I don't know how to spell it. Ok it's Coady) phenomonal drumming I'm gla to make an exception.

haha, me too! i always know what i'm getting! i often tell klump what i got him as well. but i actually like to wait for new albums, probably because i want to have the whole package to create an image in my mind. wow, that sounded gay; lets add a few rainbows just for fun.

i often download like one song or something, and listen to maybe half of it before i get the cd, just to tease myself. if i listen to the whole thing once, i usually can't stop listening to it, and i'll get tired of it, and it wont be such a big deal to get the cd. meaning i would have to have a break from it before listening to it again. (believe me, i usually break down and listen to it all, and spend my money on cds i have already overplayed).

someone say obsessive compulsive disorder?

(The) Melvins (A) Senile Animal The Melvins are family entertainment on another level. Some people say The Melvins are the wave of the future. Some people think The Melvins have already influenced a huge wave of music on a global level but most people expect The Melvins to totally fuck up. Most people think they should be called "The Fucks" because they're fucked. Well, maybe so, but nonetheless it's the last half of 2006 and The Melvins have a new new NEW album called (A) Senile Animal. (A) Senile Animal was recorded in Hollywood and as you may or may not know. The Melvins have been through a lot this last year: wars, drugs, impeachment but they never lost sight of what was important AND what was festering in their bowels. Once again the Melvins have "started over" with two, count em TWO, new members, Coady Willis and Jared Warren from the band Big Business. This will be super colossal and totally beyond reason. We can't even believe it's happening but believe it or not it's becoming more and more believable. No shit man! It's like that drug trip I saw in a movie when I was on that drug trip. And there it is my friends. One thing you can be sure of is this (A) Senile Animal album is really really great and it really works! It's ten songs long and is most likely the best album they or anyone else will put out this year or any previous year or ever probably. They have double everything this time. Double drums. Double, triple and even quadruple vocals, double bass and guitar... Well, not really double bass and guitar but... Well sort of double bass and guitar but in order to explain how that works we would have to get into a lot of technical mumbo jumbo that even we don't understand so let's just leave it at the double drums. DOUBLE DRUMS everybody! And, AND... The Melvins will hit the road with Big Business in September for a full United States tour. Keep your eyes peeled for the dates in your town or at least a couple of hundred miles from where you live. Take a road trip with your friends and go see the Melvins. Take time off from work, get your tickets and go go go to the show show show. Or shows. You and all your friends should go to as many of the Melvins shows as you can because all sorts of crazy shit will be happening. It will be un-fucking-believable and besides, hell, why not? It will be a kick in the ass! Well, earlier in 2006 and as usual the seemingly tireless Melvins released yet another brand "new" CD. Big surprise. This time, as a result of their strange work last year in Europe with the famous Trevor Dunn playing bass they've recorded a full length record entitled "Houdini Live: A Live History of Gluttony and Lust", which was released in May. So put down your beer bongs and your crack pipes and dash out and buy two or three copies

I hear you vin.  I thought it was someone writing a review and stealing quotes from Buzz's post on the ipecac band page.
once I got to the end and saw buzz's name I rethought some of the statements as humor and sarcasm.
I've said it before, buzz has a strange writing style.  I think he doesn't pre-think any of his liner notes or published writings. he just sits down and starts writing.  makes for a loose, conversational read.

Initial thoughts? It sucks.
Okay its not bad, but I expected total ROCK/HEAVY MADNESS with incredible vocal harmonies but its just..., ROCK. I dont know... it doesnt ROCK that hard, and there coudlve been at least more (MORE MORE MORE!) of those great harmonies (Buzzos and Jareds voice fit perfectly together).
Its like somewhere in the middle, it kinda lacks ..... (the) Melvinsity. And there are few moments that you can recognize that there are two drumbers.

Its like "regular melvins rock". In the vein of Set Me Straight (weakest song on Houdini), Goin Blind, and Safty Third (that song frm the Lustmord alb)

This is just my first thought, im gonna keep listening to it... hopefully it'll grow (it WILL grow... its the goddamn SNIVLEM!)

oh, i see. i didn't realize that i have to have actually mouthed off a certain number of times on this forum to be a "candidate" for a leak. next time i get really excited about a new album by one of my favorite bands and want to hear it before the moment when we all know i will buy it, and then see a bunch of "cool" online mouth-talkers, opinionologists, fart-noise typographers talking about leaks of it, i'll know to go back in time, waste everyone's time waxing philosophical (read: annoying) about this or that weighty issue concerning this or that album's colour scheme and generally being a fucking waste of flesh-- self-absorbed, loquacious, unbowed in my fervour to document online (since no one in the harsh environment outside my parents' basement will stand my ramblings but i DO matter and so do my dumbshit halfcocked opinions) my every waking miserable thought on the melvins, proving once and for all that i am a veritable fan, court/forum stenographer please read back the notes where i berated someone for thinking song X was the best second-longest-track-on-a-melvins-album-post-lorax-but-pre-deutrom, when in fact as i demonstrated via caustic witticism with a dash of panache and a jigger of emoticons that it was song Y; yes, that proves it, i've been here (and heard) all along, hellbent on filling up this forum the most with my own uniquely useless verbosity. next time. i learned my lesson, that's what i'll do. sorry, i just didn't know that before, thanks for filling in such a human-retard as myself. i now have the facts.

Well, from what I understand it's not the number of posts or lack of them. It's just by going by your post number you appear to be a newbie and you are now or have been going through an initiation. All these chaps are lovable. But you still cannot have a leak because there is none. That would be illegal. You don't want do anything illegal do you? Ipecac would shut this site down similar to what happened to the Mr Bungle site when the Peeping Tom proper album was being leaked. And if that happened, I would be enraged, and you do not want to make Joe Deutrom II enraged.

i'm not sure what's been going on.  i haven't been reading this thread all night.
but i must say that i trust the judgement of my fellow moderators, and while i don't necessarily agree with everything they do, i will support them in it because i know they do it for the right reasons, and maybe i am incorrect in not doing what they do.
posts aren't deleted around here very often.  i'm sure there is a LOT less "moderation" in this forum than in many others around the world.  luckily we are not a bunch of power-hungry and lacking nerdy types that attempt to feel important by censoring people.  you can ben sure that if a post is deleted, it is because it is suspected that someone will be more offended than usual, or at times there is a direct complaint.
again, i have no idea what happened in this thread, but i have to assume it was for the best.  these things never hurt anyone too much, it'll be old news soon.

(sooner if i stop yakking about it)

In this matter I think it was good that the mods/mod took action. Things tend to get out of control, and when you start to discuss
other forumists actions and beings in a negative way, you`re out of line.

The most geeky thing ever, must be these pathetic cyber-quarrels. (but you can`t avoid to react when you get annoyed, even in this surrealistic environment. Oooops, time go leave work! Home sweet home!)

hello,   my name is glen and I have been a victim of censorship.

the moderatorship is a panel, is it not?       might I request that a moderator not make a decision on censoring or not censoring a certain post without first consulting other moderators?

this is not the place for me to go on a rant about my, or anyone else's individual case.  THAT would be totally out of line AND in poor taste.
but the fact is I have noticed a recent rash of.....  police brutality, for lack of a better term.
consistancy and democracy would be a welcome development.

Since the thing with BB wont last forever, they should conciliate with Joe (their "relationship" is rubbish anyway) and get him as a bass player.
