God, both Buzz and Mark D. sound like insufferable jackasses who like to hear themselves wax superior. And the Jello comments, kind of funny now in retrospect.    :-k

Thought you guys would find this amusing.

Uncle Fester

He could.......but Ministry beat him to it with the Lard albums.

Actually, if you were into underground punk in the early-mid '80s. Or if you had any of his spoken word stuff  from later, you already knew he was pretty cool. No one had to "make" him cool, but helping bring attention to a living legend... THAT is very cool.  I think his heavy handed politico approach eventually wears thin on most listeners. But at the same time, when I was a little skater punk in middle school he really made me think.

dead mike

How dare they wax superior to Green Day.

Well...sure. But, at the same time, shut the fuck up, you know? You don't have to be a total, total dickhead in the press and talk shit about people by necessity. I don't know if that's an admirable way to exist in the world. Beyond that, though I don't like Green Day, I don't I give a shit about what the Melvins think of Green Day either.

Melvins talk shit about people to get a reaction out of idiots who get offended by it and think it matters. So mission accomplished here I would say   :)

joel

Oh, I'm hardly offended. Far from it. It would take quite a bit to offend me. But I can certainly spot jackassery when I see it.

I will concede the fact that none of this matters because it really doesn't. I just thought it was an amusing interview, made amusing by how self-satisfied and superior Buzz and Mark sound. Don't get me wrong, love the Melvins. But that doesn't mean they don't sound like jackasses in this interview.

Am I the only one who thinks Mark D was/is kind of a douche? Don't get me wrong I love his bass skills but most of the interviews that he's in I just want him to shut up.

I get the sense that the whole "nonstop smart-ass" thing was part of a persona he had created just for chuckles. I also get the sense that one of the reasons Buzz fired him was because Mark was often as funny as or funnier than Buzz. And no one upstages the King!

is it funnier?  or just attention demanding?

either way.. some of the best MELVINS work was post mark D.

Why weren't Lard massive?  In the 90's that kind of music could be commercially viable.  Wasn't forkboy in natural born killers?  Lard are or were an amzing band that consistently released great material.
What do you think of Jello with Nomeansno by the way?
...and they all sing the same refrain: its fun to take a trip, put acid in your veins.
