Damn. I really, really, really hope this becomes a living breathing version of the Melvins that will always be around. Same set list as San Diego. The addition of Trevor Dunn on upright bass added an element of depth and intensity that I have never seen the Melvins possess before. A perfect combination of Heavy Metal, New Wave and Psychedelia. I have seen every line up of Melvins with the exception of Joe P and I would without a doubt say that this very lineup is THE definitive lineup. Nice small crowd too. Perfect show in every way.

Melvins as a three piece just looks effortlessly, irresistably right. Trevor is the missing link.

The Melvins play "Hag Me" at the Roseland in Portland, Or on 5-24-09

i guess Dunn lives in NY,also being very busy with many different projects i doubt he could be a full time member. this line up would release some of the most interesting stuff since the Mark D era

The more I think about it, the more I realize that last night felt like the most "mature" version of the Melvins I have ever heard or seen. Something about the musical abilities of Trevor that pushes the entire band into new areas. You could tell they were really playing the hell out of that music. Not that they were not doing that before, but this was on a much different level.

Here is to Melvins Lite.

Interesting comments there Sadcorps, would you like to see Dunn ONLY use the upright bass if this line up stuck around?  :-k

hey sadcorps, how sounded pitfalls in serving warrants? was the upright bass sound loud or quiet, was Trevor using some pedals or it had a clean sound? thanks

Pitfalls was amazing. If I remember right the bass was untreated with effects the entire gig up until the end of the night when there was an amazing Dale Trevor duo noise thing. I certainly wouldn't call it a quiet Melvins show though, not mind numbingly loud, but more of a perfect volume. You could really hear EVERYTHING going on in the music. I cannot say it enough, this should be another permanent version of the Melvins.

I had my doubts about how this would work with upright bass, and had ALL doubts shot down within 1 minute of hearing Trevor in that combo like that. Trevor is so damn versatile, I guess what I would like to see is maybe some standard electric bass too. But really - I never felt like that was an element missing last night.

I really really really hope they take this lineup further. Knowing the Melvins and how they create their OWN path of what is right, I could see that happening.

Why aren't any of you fuckers putting recording up?

Get with it people!

I only wish I had the talent to record.

Really hoping that a recording of one of these shows surfaces..

I have a good friend going to the Fresno show tonight. He records many shows and if he records this one - will make sure that it circulates. :)
