Maryland Show #33 Ottobar Baltimore!

Did I do the math correctly to come up with 33?

Brother just told me I have tickets for the Baltimore and DC shows! Last time I saw the Melvins in Baltimore must have been the Geek Tour. Who's going? JZS?

The Ottobar opened in downtown Baltimore September 1997 at 203 east Davis St. in the former Chambers nightclub. With a VERY limited capacity, the venue provided an intimate showroom for live music and occasional performance art. National artists of note who performed: The White Stripes, Le Tigre, Fear, Bright Eyes, Lamb Of God, Death Cab For Cutie, The Rapture, Jimmy Eat World, Of Montreal, Blonde Redhead, Queens Of The Stone Age, Man...Or Astroman, and Spoon, along with local artists of the time: Goliath, Third Harmonic Distortion, Oxes, The Oranges Band, Lungfish, Candy Machine, Daybreak, The Goons, Roads To Space Travel and many, MANY more. Performances included: The 80's Prom, Smiths/ Morrissey Karaoke, Salute To Satan, Tiny Couch Night, The Death Of Vaudeville Night and The Annual Outdoor Music Festival "Bourbon Street Anti Fest." The Davis Street Ottobar closed on November 17th 2001.

That same month Ottobar reopened at 2549 North Howard street (lower charles village) and olpened with the one and only Daniel Johnston. The new venue was considerably larger and offered a much cleaner and hospitable atmosphere (for the first few years.) National artists of note so far: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Drive-By Truckers, Dinosaur Jr, TV On The Radio, The Breeders, Maroon 5, Supersuckers, Quiet Riot, KRS-ONE, Jonathan Richman, David Cross, Michael Ian Black, At The Drive In, Atmosphere, The Melvins, Coheed And Cambria, Bouncing Souls, Animal Collective and of course, many many more. Local artists have included: Lake Trout, Glenmont Popes, Fishnet Stalkers, Thrushes, Celebration, Ponytail, Misery Index, Prince Charming Chazz and more. Other special nights include: "Underground" Dance Party, Pet Wedding, Butcher Knife Throwing Contest, Spelling Bee, Ottobar Boys and Girls Choir, Book Burning For Peace and more.

Hey Grim, were you at Big Biz the other day ? ...I was the guy in the crowd eating a bag of doritos and looking very relaxed.

The show at this point is like a well oiled machine. Listened to the Nationals game on the drive up to Baltimore and we lost the radio signal. When we got into the city the Nationals had won. Orioles game delayed two hours. But I digress.

Ottobar is the same as I remember. A bunch of drunk girls. Got there in plenty of time to drink some Natty's and get in front of the stage. Tweak Bird kicked ass and I saw Buzz taking some pictures. Dale watched the set a bit latter as did Trevor.

Trevor had a Narcotics Hat when he sound checked but changed into his Angus Young suit for the show. The band was incredable. The crowd just chilled out the entire show. I watched Buzz, Dale and Trevor in front of the stage and never once had to fight for real estate. Buzz reinterated that he doesn't want children during a break in the action. A lot of people were filming. One guy near the right front had his equipment on the wall so I hope he shares it with us. Tonight Buzz said they broke thier personal record for most shows in a row. They will break that record again tonight in DC.

Went upstairs and watched the Orioles lose in the top of the ninth. I think I'm bad luck for the O's.

Forgot it's Sunday and I'm out of booze. I'm so dry I'm a fire hazard.

Said hi to Walsby. The poster for Baltimore never showed up.

     Awesome show all the way around. Tweak Bird Killed it....talked with there drummer outside, very chill dude. Melvins were tight as fuck and sounded great. This is the first time that I've seen Dunn with the band and was truly impressed, he's an animal on that stand up.
      So, merch... I got the only 1983 10'' they had, sorry. They had plenty of Bulls & Bees 10" (silver w/ spots cover & red cover...looks like the splatter is in the red cover & the others are in the silver), Freak Puke LPs,#5 & #6 clear Sugar Daddy splits, 1983 CD sets, & all 5 Hammerhead splits. No letterpress CDs & no 1983 10''s
