Came to Reading a day early to have a few beers head start.

Good night, went to a few bars(no-one in Melvins T-shirt, ha ha).Ended up in the Purple Turtle where Motorhead and Deep Purple were blasting nice and loud.

Can't wait for Melvins and Big Business tomorrow night.

Will be in a pub called 'The Horn' from 5.30 tomorrow if anŷone wants to meet(nothing special about the pub,it's just my mates local)

Gong back to the Purple Turtle after the gig.

Apologies, that should have read 'will be about 6.30,had to go to Birmingham today and got delayed' ha ha.

Anyway, great set, great night.Missed the first half of Big Business as they were on mega early.

Crashed out in bed now with a very sore head.

Reading is much nicer than I remembered. Last time I was there was '93 but I wasn't really in a fit state to judge it then. The Horn is cheap and nasty, just as I'd hoped. I never tired of asking strangers if they could point me towards the horn when I got off the train. Endless fun.

It was an early start, Big Business were on just after 7.30 and Melvins just after 8.30. We were out of the place by 10pm which was the exact opposite of Milan where nothing started til after 10pm. The venue is very cool, with sofas just behind the sound desk - it was tempting to watch the whole show from the sofa with a massive vodka and soda and a straw, but after a few minutes I needed to be on my feet which was right and proper.

It was Jared and Coady's turn to steal the shows tonight. Jared played very obviously and in the face of someone in his own world and texting on his phone the whole time and made a point of being very 'angry' with texters in general. This was pretty hilarious to watch, prancing around the stage, snarling and pressing his index finger into the palm of his hand. He was also concerned the crowd weren't crazy enough, but it was 7.30 on a Thursday, Jared, we need time for the drugs to take effect.

By the time Melvins had taken to the stage, the drugs were starting to collectively kick in and the place filled up. At one point Buzz had to leave the stage for a couple of minutes (I was kind of hoping it was to text!) and left the other three to ad lib til he returned, so we got more than we bargained for! Dale and Coady were on fire this evening, and Coady was lengthening his solo drum bits a bit, making Buzz laugh. Was it Coady's birthday or something? I'm sure there was something going on with him, you could detect some private jokes behind the scenes.

There was some trouble with a couple of crazy dancers/crowd surfers as, about half way through Melvins' set, half the crowd seemed to go mad together! It was hilarious! Up until then, the bouncers had been getting into the music with everyone else, but they were reluctantly pulled away to deal with some surfers who kept coming back and back. Duffy got kicked in the head but not too hard.

Then it was Jared's turn to shine again! He got into the crowd and surfed around a bit on top of people's heads while he was playing (forgot which song), perplexing the bouncers to fuck and making me laugh harder. One of the local techs looked genuinely worried as the guitar lead got shorter and shorter.....finally, it had to happen: someone nicked his turban!

After Buzz left the stage finally, the threesome played on for ages, Jared leaning over the front rows of the people shouting Like Father Like Son while Dale and Coady made magic.

It was really weird jumping on a train and going home after the gig, that doesn't happen very often. I was still chortling when I got there. Another fucking brilliant night!

Oh, almost forgot: the remaining Melvins shirts are now all £10.

About 15 minutes into the set, maybe. They finished a song, Buzz put his guitar down, had a quick word in Dale's ear and left for a couple of minutes. Dale, Coady and Jared filled in, in the meantime. No biggie, just never seen it happen before. I wonder if Gareth had taken him for a vindaloo the night before....?

The people Jared was getting annoyed at regarding their phones was the bouncers. He shouted something to the crowd like 'go wild, do what you want as these won't stop you, they're to busy on their phones to do their job properly'
He played very close and obviously in the face of the bouncer to the left as you look at the stage, he didn't flinch though.

Shame I missed you at the Horn, so annoyed that I got delayed in Birmingham, only managed two or three pints before the gig as it started so early.
