anyone remeber the setlist for Melvins (sans Jello)?  My reccollection falls apart after the killer opener of Pigs Of The Roman Empire...

....with all due respect to Jello, I suspect Iggy laid the foundation for all future generations of stage diving performers...

Quote from: Pelican on October 24, 2005, 08:32:28 PMThen, Alice Donut played. They were pretty good.

Alice Donut are legendary, and extremely underated.

Also, I have posted a fair recording of this performance below.

However, I am unaware of the live recording policy of this board or the Jelvins?

Therefore, if I have broken any rules by sharing this, I emplore the Administration of this space to edit this post.

Enjoy:

Thanks AlienOnAcid.  Not only did you grant my request of a setlist, but now I can relive the show (which btw sounds FUCKING KILLER!!).  THanks again.

oh, just realized this thread was from december.  i guess they didn't expire.
i guess i posted three times in a row too, oops.

4 times.

i am listening to this right now with headphones cranked to maximum volume.
god i love the melvins.
this brings back concert memories in a painful way.  painful because i want to be at a melvins concert RIGHT NOW.  -i apologize to anyone who hasn't seen them live- i haven't even been listening to them that much lately, but hearing this and imagining the experience makes me realize that going to these concerts is probably my favorite thing to be a part of.  as far as sensory experiences go, nothing tops it.  i think i'd rather be at a perpetual melvins concert for a straight month than have a perpetual orgasm for equally long.
it's always so pleasant to be reminded that what these people do on stage and on record is not ordinary human stuff.  the bloated pope was just played and i thought i could have transcended time and space if i listened a little harder.
buzz's voice is godlike

sorry, i'm just having one of my periodic re-discoveries of the MELVINS

anyone else think bloated pope is the new anaconda live?
anyone else get slightly annoyed when they play their songs just a bit too fast live and
you are able to hear their tightness suffer?  that was a bad sentence but i think you know what i mean.

First off, don't apologize for these kind of posts, I always enjoy reading them. I'll be seeing the Big Band live in two weeks and I'm damn excited as well. I have only seen the Melvins live once, should have been twice at least though, but still I'm not as exciting as I would be if it would have been just the Melvins, without Fantomas. The Melvins rule!

I was thinking, maybe you want to point out you're missing the sludge, is that it? One of the first threads on this board was about sludge, I think. Anyway, even when that isn't the case, I think know what you mean.

As much as I love the Melvins today, I still think their earlier stuff is better than their recent work. Now don't give me any 'crybaby' remarks, I'm just being honest here! And maybe it's only logic to prefer a band's earlier work, especially when they've been around for so damn long. Maybe I'll like HAT as much as I like Bullhead in a couple of years, I'll let you all know in 2008.

Vcavallo

it's not so much the song selection that bothers me ("sludge" vs. "non-sludge" tracks)  it's when they speed up songs that are recorded just slightly slower.  buzz has to spit the vocals out sloppily and dale's crashes just aren't the same.  i think sometimes i can hear the unity break down ever so slightly.  see fast amazon in that 2005 NYC show alienonacid posted to see what i mean.  i'm sure it's fun for them to speed it up, but for me it doesn't build intensity, it takes away from it by becoming sloppy.

If you see Buzz or Dale, tell him you think Dan Raymond's a pretty cool guy.  It's a good icebreaker.

Pooh, I don't think I'll get to meet them, European shows are much different from the US shows.

A friend of mine from SF roadied for the Melvins in 92, maybe 93 and Fantomas, in 2002 or 2003 or something, so that should be a good opener as well. Thanks though ;)

And who's Dan Raymond again?

HELLO???   you mean you don't know who dan raymond is?  my god (you believe that?  he doesn't know who dan raymond is).
jeez, who doesn't know who dan raymond is,  isn't it obvious?  I mean, if YOU don't know who dan raymond is than I sure as hell can't tell you.

who's dan raymond....

wait a minute, who IS dan raymond?  I don't know either.

They probably haven't got long left, so that might be a good idea.
