I know there was a thread on this back when it came out....but it got alot of 'too much noise not enough tunes' crap posted in it so i just didnt bother to keep myself updated on it.

SO! How does Pigs rank among you handsome gents and pretty ladies?

My opinion.... this album is a treat. Not lacking any music and not over doing it on the atmospheric ambiance. The mixture of the two are  right down my alley. It's definatley up there with HAT... Well thought out and blah blah blah.....
so lets hear it.
any haters are welcome to hate.

Not one of my favorites, yet. As some albums take just longer to grow, this will too eventually. I like it in small doses now, but they are getting bigger. Took a while with HAT and Gluey too.

Rex Irae

I like it a lot, don't listen to it much but I like it  8)

Pigs of the Roman Empire doesn't rank very high on the list of Melvins albums, but that being said it is a completely engaging experience with great theme and concept. And it is still better than most of the ish out there. If you have the time to take in the entire album it is very rewarding, but if you just need a song to kick your ass Pink Bat does the trick. More conceptually fulfilling than maggot, bootlicker, crybaby ,but not as mindblowing or ass kicking. The Melvins can't be touched, yaknowwhatimsaying?

the rocking element was impeded by some thin production IMO
One only knows if thats lustmord's doing or the bands.
Some great ideas and songs here but theyre rendered in a
diffused way, maybe thats just my tastes      the artwork is immaculate though.

The first time i heard the title song POTRE was when the melvins came here....... i was blown away.......but wehen i later bought the record i was dissapointed that it wasnt so long and going somewhere as it was live.
still great though.

Inkdaub

I rank it alongside Honky in that I only listen to it every now and again but when I do I really like it.  Norecess mentions HAT...I was completely ambivalent to HAT when it came out but now I really like it.

I'm actually gonna go give it another listen thanks to this thread. It's been quite a while since i listened to it.

I felt the same way after hearing a live version from Paris with DSS on bass,
the power and majesty of POTRE live was miles above the album version

I've said this before:  I like everything about POTRE, EXCEPT the lustmord shit.  it bores me.  the melvins end rocks severely.   the lustmord end (to me) is just a bunch of rumbles, clangs and thuds.
I'm thinking if they would have put more of it together it would have worked better for me.  it seems (for the most part) very seperated.
I like the jello collab better. (thats asking for trouble, no?)

The Bloated Pope kicks me in the nuts everytime I listen to it, which is always good. But I have to be in the right mood to listen to the whole album. But when I do, hoowee is it good.
This isn't a time for lectures!

Agreed, when I saw the film version I thought it was the best thing ever. It's still a good album overall though.

The version that they play along with the Cameron Jamie film even. Kranky Klaus.
