Hackers and the FTP

Unfortunately people are hacking the FTP. I try to to keep up with them, but they must really be bored, and I don't have the time right now to deal with it.  So I'm afraid it will be down until I clean up the machine and put it behind a firewall.......So much for being a nice guy!  Some people are such fucking idiots..... Oh well, I'll let you all know when it is back up.  Maybe next week.

I don't understand what they could hope to achieve by hacking it??
They've already got access to all the stuff on there with the log-in and
password... the only thing they could achieve by hacking it is to try and wipe out the content, but who would be that big of an asshole???

maybe it was the ipecac hacker team, what were they doing to hack it exactly?  were they trying to bring it down with a denial of service attack or something or were they trying to gain access to the entire server with some exploit involving your ftp server?

I just want to say that nothing was destryoyed, and I backuped everything regularly to DLT tape....so no worries.  I will have it back up soon when I can be reasonably sure it's secure.....thanks and please be patient, I'll get it up as soon as I can!
