Haha, I tried to shake hands with your weirdo friend, but he was busy with his ipod :)
I really liked the whole show (all 3 acts) on Sunday, but yesterday when it started too late, I didn`t really feel the need to see porn again. Especially not after the half an hour loop effects! But big business kicked ass. Buzz's guitar doesn`t sound good. Sometimes I didnt recognize melvins songs until half a minute into the song or something, because I couldn`t hear what the guitar was playing at all. But it looks cool though...
i don't have a square to spare. can't spare a square.

Ah, that's sort of relieving that you admit your friend acted a bit strange, he. Yeah he did something strange with his eyes when I shook his hand. I know some weird people but this guy left quite an impression.

You had to wait for four hours!!!???? Because you had to find your friend or was the waiting part of the schedule already anyway?

He`s strange. I could fill books with stories about him! I think it started with a huge amount of mushrooms he had in Amsterdam some years ago..

No, the waiting was part of the schedule. The next train from Venlo to Germany was going at 5 pm or so. Longest 4 hours of my life. But it was worth it of course!

Well, let's get it over with. Some kind of review. Like I said before, I really liked Porn quite a bit. As more of us do I suppose, I don't consider them a band opening, but more as an opening of ther evening. The problem with music like this is that it's hard to describe. I just happen to like a free approach to music. Call it ambient, drone, noise, soundscapes, I don't care, but when it's done well, I can listen to it. For that reason albums like Grey Daturas - Return To Disruption and Oneida - Preteen Weaponry will probably end up in my year list of 2008. What Moss does these days seems to me like the logical result of him moving away from the classic approach to guitar, and moving more towards a sound oriented approach. When Dale came out on Sunday, he started to polish the sound a bit. He played several beats, but never repeated the same thing. Think of a collage of Melvins drumbeats. Coady joined him too, although I would take just Dale any time of the day. I think Coady is a bad ass drummer and to watch the man in action is phenomenal, but I've kind of had it with this two drummer thing. It looks impressive, but the sound they produce doesn't blow me away to be honest. Big Business were so good and powerful, it was magical and beautiful. Goosebumps during Just As The Day Was Dawning - what a great song (a better song than any Melvins song off the past two albums). Dale of course joined them for a few songs, traditions. He's kind of sloppy at times but they rock, so who cares? The Melvins. I am such a big Melvins nerd and have heard them so often that watching them live completely takes away the surprise element. So watching them has become a confirmation of what I already know: they rock, and they deliver, ad they are super tight and solid, and they know how to put on a great song. Buzzo stepping around his spot looking angry is like a dog trying to find its place to release its turd. It's funny when he loses some dots of hair while he's rocking out.

Yesterday was disappointing because I had hoped for a full Melvins set with some rarities, which didn't happen, I think. I still haven't found out if they did any other material. Watching Big Business from so close by was really cool, and like I said, they played another new song. Someone taped the show but I didn't contact him, maybe it'll turn up somewhere.

EDIT: Btw, apparently Tour EP III sold out last Saturday, a day before I had the chance to buy it :(

They played some country song about marihuana and other drugs and Sacrifice. After Sacrifice Buzz left the stage and the rest played a bit of Boris. Dale sang a bit.

EDIT: His aluminium guitar looks really nice, but it only sounds good on a few songs. I like it a lot when they play Eye Flys. In Ghent he broke a string on his aluminium guitar and got his Les Paul for the next song. When one of the roadies restrung the aluminium guitar and wanted to give it back to Buzz, he didn't want it!

Ah, so I missed Okie From Muskogee and Sacrifice. How did Sacrifice sound? Was it the Lysol version or the mellow and loungy version?

nXs

Ah yeah, Okie From Muskogee.

Sacrifice was the Lysol version.

Oh btw, thanks for posting that they played at the Rambler, because I wouldn't have know otherwise. I think me and my friends were the only Belgians there...

Not a problem!

I must say on forehand I expected something different from the description on the website of The Rambler. Apparently by extra long set they meant the same old set plus Okie From Muskogee. Now I've never seen them playing Okie From Muskogee so that would have been nice, but I'm not exactly dying to hear it either (as opposed to Hog Leg for example). To see them play Sacrifice in a small bar like that must have been fucking sweet, though!

Still, it was a unique opportunity to see the Melvins in such a small and nice place, so I don't regret that I went. When the Melvins play in my little 'frog country', I just have to go. But watching them while you're checking your watch constantly just plain sucks. Still, I had a lot of fun that night and the train ride back was hilarious, but that's another story.

So did I. I thought they were going to play more older songs. Like on the American tour right before they recorded Nude With Boots. In the end they played about as long as the day before. They just skipped a few songs in the beginning...

Sacrifice was nice! So was the bar, I really like bars like that. If I'm ever going out in Eindhoven I'll be sure to have at least a few drinks there.

I've seen them 3 times in 4 days now. I don't think I would've gone to another show if it was nearby. As much as I love the Melvins 3 times in 4 days is more then enough.  :P

Also Buzz was using a sm 58 instead of his regular mic (sm 57?).

You mean that one-off as a duo?
