Eindhoven, September 14th & 15th

No review yet, but a placeholder for now. Some of you might be thinking: what? two dates? Yep, that's right. I just found out the Melvins will be playing another show tonight, again in fucking Eindhoven (it sucks to be dedicated, and I could really use some extra sleep), but it will be worth it hopefully as they will be playing in a small cafe, and an extra long set list is promised.

Short note about yesterday then: Porn was avant-garde noise, beautiful, Big Business rocked so hard and was so mighty and powerful, it almost brings tears to me eyes when  see them, goosebumps everywhere. Melvins were as solid as I was hoping theyd be, and I loved to hear the new material, among classics like Eye Flys and Boris. More later.

About Porn: if you listen to it with an open mind, you'll really like it. Everything is a bit more loose and free, and in a way this new form is only logical, according to the following pattern: guitar > feedback > noise > sounds. The riffs hardly even matter anymore - it's all about the sounds that come from it.

From door to door it takes about two hours to get to Eindhoven, I'm guessing it'll be the last train again, which leaves 23.30, so we'll be home around 1.30 again.

And why in the fucking Rambler? I saw videos of that place and Melvins just dont deserve to play there. How can they like that place

I really don't understand you. Don't you realize how great it is that a band like the Melvins will play in a small cafe, just because they feel like doing it? It's not about the money, but just because the opportunity is there. It was their day off, they also could have taken a day off - which I would have done probably. I saw High on Fire in The Hague a few months ago in some shit hole in The Hague and it was fucking awesome, I'm hoping for the same thing tonight.

Hopefully they will return with their original drummer soon. There must be something special next year right? The Melvins anniversery..

I doubt if they'll do a European tour with Dillard but I think there's a good chance he's coming with them to play at ATP.

Well, I just got back, 1.25 am now, grrr..... Unfortunately it didn't start right away at 9.30, as I hoped. Around 9.30 a 'Moss loop' started for half an hour and then Porn started. They skipped the noise intro and went right into that riff, Moss on guitars, Coady and Dale on skins and that roadie with a piercingthrough his lip on bass and effect pedals. They did a short jam/set and then BB went on. One new song compared to yesterday, so three new songs in total. The Melvins went on a bit before 11 but nothing special. Civilized Worm, Kicking Machine, SIP, Billy Fish, Tipping The Lion, Honey Bucket, the ASA trilogy, My Generation, then I left to catch the last train. It was a real nice bar, decently priced beers, and a good wide stage, so enough space. I stood two meters away from the stage, watching BB from so close was quite a thrill. Put out my earplugs when Buzz hit the stage, my ears are still ringing. It was cool, BUT, no new songs (maybe later???), no full Melvins set with strange/unusual songs, and I had a train to catch, and it was on a weekday.

What can I say... It was an awesome show! We had some problems with the trip organisation. Actually there were three of us that had planned to go but the guy who should drive got sick and I bought some train tickets at the last minute. So it was just two. The guy who was with me was an old friend of mine who I see about twice a year and who is a kind of a weirdo. He doesn`t talk most of the time and acts pretty strange. We arrived in Eindhoven at about 6 pm and split for some time so that I could get something to eat and he could look for a coffeshop. At 8 pm we met Maarten and Co at the venue. It was nice to meet them. He bought us the tickets prior to the show because it`s hard to get tickets for foreign concerts over here. Unfortunately we only talked for five minutes or so. I was looking for them at the show but couldn`t find them anymore...Thanks again for the tickets!

When we got in Porn was already playing. They sounded great and I was happy and looking forward to a nice concert evening. I bought the See you in Hell shirt at the stand. Big Biz got on stage totally blew me away again. Jared`s vocals were a bit too quiet as on the last times I saw them. The new songs were absolutely amazing. Can`t wait for the new record. After another short break Melvins got on stage. They seemed to be in a great mood even though Cody had some difficulties with his pedals. The setlist was the same as on the previous shows of course but it was totally exciting. Dog Island was so powerful and mighty that I`m still shaking. Eye Flies...To hear Honey Bucket and Tipping the Lion was great. I think they played them on my first Melvins show in 97 but I only knew Honky and GPT by then. The Senile medley was great. BORIS! Oh my god. I love the Melvins. At the end Jared jumped down the stage and performed the voice part in the pit. I think he broke some glass with his mic but couldn`t see anything...

After the show I was looking for my friend who was missing. I waited outside the venue for about 30 minutes. Nothing. I got a little worried because he had our train tickets in his bag. As I said he acts pretty weird sometimes and he is known to dissapear without a word. I managed to get him on the phone and it appeared that he walked out the venue after the first 2 songs because he decided that it would be funnier to find another coffeeshop to drink a cola !!!!! He said he got lost in the city and couldn`t find his way back to the venue. Apperantly there was no need for him to contact me whatsoever. Finally I found him in the middle of the city and we caught the train at the last minute. We had to wait outside the trainstation in Venlo for 4 hours. I will definately get sick tomorrow...

Got home at 7 am

Can`t wait for the next tour !

Hey Mar, we were right in front of the stage actually. We stood where Jared went into the crowd during Boris. Before he grabbed that guy and held him in the air, he held another guy, who stood right in front of Ingrid - she was afraid she'd be his next victim! And yeah, it was glass he broke indeed, with another bottle I believe. I thought it was funny that instead of actually watching Jared, most people took their cell phone out and made pictures of him.

Ah, that's sort of relieving that you admit your friend acted a bit strange, he. Yeah he did something strange with his eyes when I shook his hand. I know some weird people but this guy left quite an impression.

You had to wait for four hours!!!???? Because you had to find your friend or was the waiting part of the schedule already anyway?
