so you draw a direct correlation that mark d. is a pop star grunge bassist that belongs in dead junkie seattle bands.......true brilliance dude! so where does kevin R. belong then? maybe it was kevin that shat in mark d's hat. i call bullshit, music has many faces of talent. to say layne wasn't talented or cantrell wasn't a good guitarist is ludacris. wow herion was big......deal with it. i'm guessing you call the screaming tree's shit, and you call sonic youth shit, mother love bone shit, god forbid we call the melvins pre houdini seattle grunge, oh and at the top of our little scene was kurt k. our herion poster boy. the real question is in 10 years from now is the music that you listen to gonna be shit?

Not really I'm just not big on Mark's style. Overall they are still killer albums and that includes songs of his. Just my least fave in the cannon. Yes, ultimately I don't think he fit the band. And as for talent he's got it, just don't like what makes it his. I never said Cantrell wasn't a good player. So is Satriani but thats boring too. Talent's half the battle mabey less. I said the songwriting was generic. Layne as a vocalist was competent, dime a dozen. If you like his voice and style cool but its not like he was Poverettii or anything. As a lyricist he was juvinille and obvious. The heroin angle is just rock star. Not to be a junkie per se but to use/condone it as a marketing tool. Like RHCP get hooked/get clean write another under the bridge ripoff ballad and reap the rewards. Kev isn't everywhere talkin 'bout how cool it is to be a junkie and writing 8th grade tripe lyrics 'bout it. If he was I'd call him a idiot too. Except for SY and early Melvins your right I think all those bands blow . . . some more than others but yeah, SY are hardly grunge though. Nirvana weren't bad, In Utero was/is great, the rest alright. They were never a fave. Kurt was hardly the artistic messiah people make him out to be. He had some magic, but so do heaps of artists. 10 yrs. from now? Doubt it. Aside from the obvious new shit I've listen to tons from 10yrs. ago not to mention 20. Sure there are bumps along the way. I bought into grunge for a minute but soon realized the vast majority were just Ratt in flannel w/ a big muff. There were some great bands for sure but the scene sure as hell didn't warrant that kinda exposure or shelf life.

soundgarden is wonderful as are screaming trees, tad, anything else by mark lanegan, afghan whigs and yes alice in chains. but then do you care what my opinion is? no. Do I care about yours? occasionally like my post about the cows. suprisingly enough you saying how can you like that it's shit doesn't have too much baring on my music collection. you're not real people anyway just internet people. everybody knows that.

i don't really understand why people have problems with different melvins' bassists.  they were the melvins when they were in the band, and if you get mad at them for whatever input they put in, you also get mad at buzz and dale.  they have a say so of what goes in albums, just like mark d. did.  i personally like all of the melvins' bassists because (maybe someone said this already, or put it in a different way) they put their own thing in it, and the melvins are about change (i think, even if they don't mean to be) and trying new things, and their bassists helped that.  clearly without mark d. or the whole atlantic stuff they wouldn't have as many fans, sold as many records, etc.  lets all love what the melvins have been through, that's what has made them the melvins. yay!

heh...i got a little happy at the end.
