I think that when you look back on records like GPT, Ozma, 10 songs and realize how young those guys were, you'd have to say that they are once in a generation musical geniuses with a vision.  Especially taking into consideration Buzz hadn't been playing guitar or writing songs for all that long.  They've only gotten better with time.  The riffs, the lyrics, the art, the interviews, there's so much to like.  How can one get bored with them?  There's so much variety in execution.  Just put on a different record.

i feel the same. it's hard to get tired of a band
when you've grown up with them through all
their twists and turns for 25 years.

if you get tired of the new stuff, play some of
the old stuff, and if you get tired of the old stuff, play
the mid period stuff. if the mark d stuff gets too
familiar, throw on the rutmanis stuff.  and so on..

Who sucks more, the melvins or Primus?
If you followed Primus, bUTTY..you already know the answer to this.

I do get burned out on them from time to time, like right now Melvins haven't been in heavy rotation, probably because I was listening to them non-stop around the time of the last show I went to. But, for the most part there's always an album of theirs I can put on that suits my mood.

they're like your banky or your na-na or whatever you called your favorite blanket when you were 2.    no matter how many years pass, no matter how worn and tattered, there is always a special comforting quality to them that you just can't let go of.

They frequently release albums and I enjoy every one of them, they tour frequently and shows and priced right, they've inspired a ton of other great bands, they have a ton of rare stuff to buy so my collection will never be complete, they talk to their fans and are really cool in person, and they collaborate with other artists I love like David Yow, Foetus, Jello Biafra, etc.

I don't want to say that they are perfect but they come about as close as a band can come.  After being a fan for nearly four years they just keep getting better.

QuoteAnd is Mr Buzzo himself not as much a musical god to me now, more of a foolish oaf with an irritating laugh and smart arse demenour?

I've never considered him a musical god. Theres really no one out there right now that I would consider a god who's in the music biz.

But I do say I like his attitude and it comes through in the music.

And the message that comes through is saying if you don't like what you hear, fuck off.

That thread I started the other week, well I think one of the main reasons I still keep listening to them is because the music doesn't age. At all. The only giveaway of the date is the production/recording. But other than that...Take Bullhead for example....Heavy as anything and it was done 17-18 years ago...Lysol too!

Listen to other music from early 90's and mid 80's and it can sound so dated you can instantly pin point when it was done...even a band as awesome as the Cows - their albums are a bit dated. I think it's one of the reasons why everyone is still able to listen to Melvins without getting tired.

My opinion is that GPT and OZMA are the Melvins masterpieces considering what someone else said about their young age and limited experience with their intruments when these albums were recorded.

I think Buzz sounds better today as far as vocals go but I think musically every album they have done since these two are sort of a de-evolution of that sound. I like all their stuff, but I really dig that dirty but technical sound from GPT, Ozma and 10 songs.

I think a freaking kick butt album would be a mix of the technical stuff from GPT and Ozma mixed with the dual drumming and harmonized vocals from their current era.

Call me dumb if you want.
