Also one thing to note is often the setlist will say CG for tuning. This means that the guitar is tuned to CGDgbe as opposed to CGCfad (which is traditional drop C).
As far as I know this is the way that Buzz tunes his guitar for all drop C songs.
And the new songs "Drunken Baby" and "Dark Brown Teeth" are definitely in this tuning.

Manky, LYSOL, AMAZON (known to be played in drop D also ie, live at belfort 2003), The Bloated Pope, Charmicarmicat (Recent live version), The Talking Horse, Evil New War God, The Water Glass, Pigs of the Roman Empire, City Dump and Graveyard (BHS) are all in CGDgbe tuning from the live footage i've found.
As far as Album material that's in a C tuning the list goes as follows, from what i can hear

Lysol: Hung Bunny Roman Bird Dog
The Maggot: all except The Green Manalishi
POTRE: all
A Senile Animal: The Talking Horse
The Bride Screamed Murder: the Water Glass, Evil New War God, I'll Finish You Off
Tres Cabrones: City Dump, American Cow
This Machine Kills Artists: Rough Democracy, Dark Brown Teeth, Laid Back Walking, Drunken Baby

... and probably more i've missed.

the G and D part forms a Bar chord together,
where as the C and G part forms it's own separate bar chord in the same way traditional Drop C does

If you try and play all three strings together like traditional Drop C, (CGC alltogether) you will get a dissonant chord. So it's recommended to keep the two chords separate (unless you like dissonance).

If you need more info on the Tuning Soundgarden also uses CGDfad for the song "Mailman".

also this tuning allow for the slides (9 volt Battery) in Charmicarmicat live to sound like a power chord, thus a more pleasant sound.

Great post. For a long time I assumed that Buzz tuned to drop C in the normal way. It wasn't until too long ago when I realized he just tunes the low E and A strings to C and G, while leaving the rest of the strings in standard tuning.

Here are the songs from This Machine Kills Artists in CG:

-Dark Brown Teeth
-Rough Democracy
-Laid Back Walking
-Drunken Baby
-The New River
-The Vulgar Joke
-Everything's Easy For You
-How I Became Offensive
-Good And Hostile
-The Blithering Idiot
-The Hesitation Twist

Inhumanity And Death is in CG, and think PGx3 is too.

From The Maggot, We All Love JUDY is in drop D, as is Amazon (I believe). I think they've played Amazon in the CG tuning live, though.

Buzz does this-Hung Bunny/Roman Dog Bird is a good example.  :)

Dog Island-A C#

Apparently Buzz tunes the A string to C sharp-that's news to me.  I bet that's the Nude With Boots tuning, too. I always thought it was just AA, like in Boris. Interesting.

My first band tuned to standard E-A-D-G-B-E but an octave lower.  I played bass so getting the strings I needed was a pain in the ass sometimes.

E - 145
A - 130
D - 110
G - 95

We didn't have any specialized stuff (baritone, 7,8 string guitars).  My bass (in my avatard) is a just a cheap Memphis and it held up great to all of the tuning abuse it took over the years.

I have a Squire P-Bass from the 80's that had a horribly bowed neck from being in the un-air conditioned garage all summer long. I didn't want to spend any money on it, so I just downtuned it to a 5- string without a G (B-E-A-D). It's my favorite bass to really rock out on, and the neck is back to almost perfect condition. Without any set up or adjustments.

Cheap bass for the win!

My poor Memphis.....Over the years that thing got thrown around on stage, thrown into the crowd and got danced (stomped) on, and when we played a show on New Years Eve '98 I had my bedroom alarm clock on top of my amp to keep track of what time it was since we were the band on stage when midnight hit and after our set I threw the clock on the ground and smashed it with my bass. Over the years I replaced 3 out of the 4 tuning keys (which looks funny because the new ones didn't match), there's quite a few chunks out of the ends, I had to solder the wires for the jack more times than I can count, but that motherfucker never let me down.  If I would have done any of that with a $1000+ Fender it would have been in pieces very quickly.

Whered you get that pink melvins sticker dude.

Pretty sure it was from an old place in Seattle called The Experience.  That was one of the very first stickers I ever put on it (can't remember where the nun part of the sticker ended up).
