I guess it was more affordable for him to have a guitar made by that guy than it was by going to Gibson. I imagine Gibson would have charged him an arm and a leg to slim the neck down and turn the toggle position switch sideways. Otherwise, Buzz would have stuck with Gibson. I know I would.

If I had a Gibson fitted with the neck of a Jackson, that for me would be the ultimate guitar. I'd also want the Ace Frehley humbucker set-up.

I don't think you can make a wooden guitar neck that thin,it would snap under the tension. That aluminum neck won't move at all & probably makes it easier to switch back and forth between tunings w/out having to re-tune after a couple songs...pretty cool. :D

Have you played a Jackson? Their wooden necks are wide and thin. You may be right about that aluminum neck though. It is more than likely thinner than the Jackson neck.

I wonder why he prefered a thinner neck? He didn't eleaborate on that.

I know that the Jackson neck allows you to play faster and when I mess around with blues scales and lead playing, the neck really is made to allow for this kind of playing. Plus I have big hands and the wider neck helps with that without it feeling like my fingers are going to get tied into knots as you play further down the neck.

Look at buzzo's short stubby fingers, thinner neck means you don't have to reach as far & you get there faster. If you watch someone like hendrix, his fingers are really long & thin, so he had a natural overall advantage.

This is the best post that I have ever seen since I have been on this board.  Buzz is a great guitarist and a fine human being.    8)

This is a GREAT interview, thanks for posting.  I'm saving this right now.  The Honey Bucket lesson is sweet, that's exactly how I've always played it (pardon me while I geek out).  :)  Love the guitar sound.   ZZ Top are fantastic.  Beatles too.   Great stuff.
Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Centripetal core of soul sojourn the field vibrates to absolution. I climb toward the sun to breathe the universal.

Have you seen the bridge?  I ain't seen the bridge!  Where's that confounded bridge?!

Tres is ball blowingly good....................

I saw ZZ live a number of years ago.  2nd row center with Skynard.  Probably the second best show I've been to.
