caught the last 3/4 of weedeater's set.   holy chit man is was loud. pepper (or whatever his name is) came out and sang "gimmie back my bullets".  a low point.

MELVINS were on.  its true what they say.   best melvins set I've seen in 5 years.  the 4 piece is tighter, yet looser, if that makes any sense.  buzz was animated and mouthy. that "mail it in" vibe from the last couple tours was nowhere to be found.
at the end of the set jimmy bower came out and buzz brought out a birthday cake.  we all sang happy birthday to jimmy and then jimmy dropped the cake.    then jimmy attempted to sit in for "the bit" but appeared to be hanging on for dear life.  no dis but the dude was out of his league playing with coady and dale.  that dissolved into a drum solo.  by this point jimmy was totally lost and it showed.   dale and coady were going off.  jimmy was trying to keep up with an occasional beat here and there.     

more about down later.  I gots to go now.  but honestly, they weren't that bad.

when I saw Melvins, Jimmy Bower didn't even attempt to join in. Dale came out for the last Down song and a drum solo and Bower just stood in front and stared in amazement. Then, Coady came onstage and beat the hell out of a floor tom to add to Dale's awesomeness

down wasn't that bad.  by the time they came on I was in an enjoying-live-music mode so I thought they rocked at times.
a couple songs were meh but the majority were exactly what a housefull of drunken and fired-up lunatics ordered. it was fun.  bodies flying.  I stayed to the end.
hey anyone else who was there..  did I understand correctly to say that was phil's baby sister's birthday? the girl that came out onstage?

it seemed like a fun night for the tour.  everyone was milling around the stage playing airdrums n shit. the weedeater singer dave was rocking heavily to hooch.  as was phil to the bit.

Yep, that was Phil's little sister. And you are not kidding about how loud it was. I made the mistake of forgetting my earplugs for the first time in a long time and my ears are still ringing like hell right now. I thought it was a great show and the Melvins just completely tore it up. Jimmy did seem lost when he was trying to play along to The Bit.

I ended up meeting bigfil at the beer line. He seems like a straight up dude to me. Never saw you, Glen. I ended up opting for the tour poster for last nights show instead of getting a shirt. I already have a ton of Melvins shirts and would rather have tour posters at this point. I'll try and get a pic of it posted up here in the next few days.

I got pics of buzz handing jimmy the birthday cake on my cellphone.  unfortunately I have no idea how to get them on my computer.

PS: believe it or not phil anselmo's sister is a very lovely young lady. she also seemed intelligent and modest.


you know one thing I noticed about down?  its a friggen love-fest.  everybody is constantly hugging and kissing and tossling hair and giving out "your my boy!"s.   as the evening progresses and the booze flows the "I love you man!"s increased 10 fold. so much so that by the time they hit the stage phil had to stop between every 3rd song or so to tell us all how much he loved so-and-so in the band and how tight they were. 

PPS: the VIP tix looked pretty awesome.  you got to stand on a balcony behind the stage and had free roam of the building.  plus dinner and drinks included.  that would have been  a great night for it with all the foo-fer-ra over jimmy bower's birthday.
