1991.

However in the same year we got Bullhead.

My point? Melvins music just doesn't date. Really.

Yes, the production does let some of these earlier albums down a lot (BULLHEAD NEEDS TO BE REMASTERED STAT) and it's very easy to pick apart the 80's albums over the later ones.

Yet GPT, 13 songs, even Ozma, musically, they avoid all trends yet set them at the same time.  Just take a minute and think of all Melvin's peers and all those big 90's bands that have come and gone...even cult avante garde bands like Mr Bungle ....dated. They're all confined to their place in time.

This defines classic.

I'm interested to know, do you fanboys out there still think these early albums will be fresh in perhaps a decade or two forward in time? Or is there anything you look back onto now and think it sounds like it belongs in the 80's or 90's?

I personally will not ever tire of this music!

Good music always remains fresh sounding.

Even if it does start to date you'll notice that music comes full cirlce.

It will date when it's mature enough not to have sex without a condom?

Actually I think after twenty years, if it hasn't turned sour yet, it won't.  Like some classical music, some blues..it's probably ageless.  If anything, it will sound strange if music ever switches from guitar based/guitar heavy music to some other type of instrument-central music.

Melvins just seem so removed like they're only playing music for themselves, so it's not exactly following any trends.Even when they cover Devo and the Beatles and such, it seems almost like they are looking from the outside at this rock culture and making fun of it in a way. I think because they don't take themselves seriously and don't get involved with labels. Thats what makes them so fooking greet (in scottish accent).

Hmmm? Thou does the effect of something sounding dated necessitate that it is of no good? I think not. Heaps of tunes that sound dated just flat out rule

If a Bullhead remaster gets released. You can still listen to the original album and I'll listen to the remaster. This way we'll both be happy.

Wrong.

You'll both be happy..........but you'll also be gay for listening to a sissy polished version of the album.

Negative.

In other words are you saying Stag would be a better album if the drums sounded like tin cans and the guitar was recorded in a shitty garage with no bass? You should get a job as a journo or politician, they love double standards.
