Well, that's fucking harsh. I've never had any trouble buying merch from NoMeansNo, DOA, The Smugglers (hah!),  Melvins, etc etc here in the UK. What makes Canada so fascist? Surely all the extra tax revenue a US-based band produces playing in Canada outweighs the profits of the sale of a few t-shirts and CDs, the proceeds of which will be used on more taxable commodities (fuel, food, accommodation, blah) while they're there.
It's one thing to take merch on a month-long tour of Europe, and another to pay taxes on three dates in Canada.
harsh but true.
the american and canadian borders have been very strict since 2001, using september 11 as the entry scapegoat. it happens frequently when you see a band play  the local opening band will have a little stand with shitty t-shirts and home made c.d's and the headlining band from america has shit all on the table. who buys local bands merch anyways?? :P
an example of how retarded canada u.s. border relationship is retarded:
your only allowed four beers into canada from the u.s.. not a nice complete six pack.... but a broken up four beers.  #-o

interesting, so its to protect canada from america?
what's it like going from canada to us?
i would have thought the borders between the two would be quite laxed, obviously not. bit sad really, considering you could travel from spain all the way through to poland without a single passport check.
i say i can't, but i really mean i won't.

Fortunately, the U.S. has no beers worth exporting.

It was like this prior to 2001 but then everyone got their panties in a bunch.

going into the u.s. is fine and they dont give a shit if your bringing smokes with you or anything. I could probably easily bring weed into the u.s. if i wanted to take a risk. I have never had my vehicle randomly inspected going into the u.s. but numerous times coming back into canada. they hassle you about booze and smokes  and even garbage when your coming back to canada.

fuuuuuuck north america.

I'm curious.  What happened?  Ditch merch at border or have prior arrangements?  Was it a surprise?  Did the guys know about this ahead of time?  Wonder what happened.  I'm gonna guess they had it shipped to a safe place.

I'm quite sure they have a plan in place for this situation prior to leaving on tour.   seeing as ITS BEEN GOING ON AS LONG AS MELVINS HAVE BEEN TOURING!

I kind of regret buying because I feel kind of lame wearing anything with skulls on it, regardless of the kick ass band it's affiliated with.

Also, why don't the Melvins sell any of shit from their tours online? Do they do this so there's added incentive to a) go to the show b) buy it there?
