Slim Moon, the founder of indie label Kill Rock Stars, has criticised the Melvins'  Buzz Osborne for comments he made in an interview with The Stool Pigeon. The fuzzy-headed guitarist, 46, told the paper:

Charmicarmicat:Bastards

gesundheit

"sustained by the ego strokes he gets for his work from his fans"

Well, duh.

Slim- "maybe he has no respect for the quirky underground singer-songwriters I work with mostly nowadays"

I definitely have no respect for the quirky underground singer-songwriters he works with.

Why would you ask someone who's at the top of their game if they're tiered of what they do ?
IMO,'Bride' is one of the Melvins best albums to date. It sounds like  Slim is just jealous that
the Melvins are still vital & unique after 25 years , while he releases flavor of the month stuff
that has a relatively short shelf life. I think the last things I bought on KRS were a Thrones 7"
from '94 and a Peechees CD from '99. Once he started doing lame milk toast bullshit like Elliot
Smith he went downhill....I still don't know how I feel about Deerhoof though.

rictus

I think they should fight.

Also, I have no idea who Slim Moon is.

Looking at the list of artists on the label that sums them up quite well. As you said JZS, flavour of the month hipster stuff. No wonder Buzz looks the other way.

I forgot about kill rock stars involvement with the melvins, but buzz is probably right.

what was that melvins release again? I think I saw a 7'' or something once, stuff is hard to get nowadays.

They had a really good song on one of their compilations, also. Too bad they apparently favor hipster crap over punk rock nowadays.

Never heard that one. I really liked that fast version of "Ever Since My Accident", though. (the compilation version sounds much better than the one on "26 Songs", quality-wise)

I'm gonna say something unpopular.  Get ready.  Elliott Smith is not bad.  I hardly ever listen to him except when my wife does, but he's not bad music.  An album can get a bit draining by the end of it (the vocals sound nice but often samey in a way that is fatiguing, at least on the early stuff).  Later recordings have dynamics in the production that are nice.  When I hear the guy, I typically get in the mood to turn it off and put in a Nick Drake disc, but hey when my wife  has it on I can appreciate it.

So yeah, I usually stay the hell away from stuff with "that" aesthetic, but ES isn't crap.  One of my cats is even named Elliott.  Whatever.

The great thing is that Buzz is keeping with the loud rock music, but he keeps making it interesting.  I can see the criticism if he was just putting out Road To Ruin every year (even though that is a great album), but he's not.  And look at a band like Boris; loud and rock has lots of potential.  If I were to limit myself to one popular music branch I'd side with loud rock music any day, just for this reason.
