You said, while I listen tothe bass in 26 songs and gluey porch treatments I think "this bass player is just playing what he's told to play".  That describes every bass player up to Mark, so it follows that you would feel the same way about them as you do about Matt. It's okay for me to say that.

I think I heard something... nah. must have been the wind.

MATT LUKIN IS THE FUCKING BEST! HE SHOULD PLAY ONE MORE SHOW WITH THE MELVINS

-petition signed.

You're very defensive. The point you're responding to isn't one that I made. Again, Matt playing with the Melvins isn't the issue I addressed. You're ignoring the fact that Lori and Joe played what they were told to, just like Matt. If you like their sound better just say so. If you like their clothes better just say so. Anything would be better than trying to burn me for asking an honest question.

mints, you dont think the bass stands out more in ozma, bullhead and lysol?I think lori and joe contributed much more than matt ever did in my opinion. even if they are just playing what they are told to play, wich I dont beleive is entirely true... they were still doing it better than lukin could. you cant deny  lori plays the shit out of that bass in ozma.
I dont know wether to be flattered or annoyed that you are so persistent to know what I think

You're welcome to be flattered. I do care what you think. Only a few people offer any real thoughts about the music on this board -- that's not an insult, just an observation -- so I do pay attention when something comes up. That's all I was ever after in this thread.

I think the bass does stand out more on the albums you mentioned, but maybe due to the production rather than the playing. 26 Songs has a pretty audible bass sound, and I doubt anyone would be shocked if it suddenly came out that Lori or Joe was the actual player on there (hypothetically). I like Lori and Joe's playing as much as the next guy; I just doubt any Melvins fan listens to the albums Matt was on and thinks, "You know what sucks? The bass. Not the production -- the playing." I just don't see it, anymore than I see Mudhoney as "that band with the shitty bass player".

ahhh nothings better than talking melvins with a fellow nerd.
I know what you're saying. theres nothing wrong with the bass playing in glueyporch or 26. but when I say the bass stands out more in ozma etc... Im not talking about the way it sounds or how the album is produced. Ill use a few songs that lori plays on as examples... Vile, Anaconda, if I had an excorcism, revultion/we reach to name a few... these are songs she adds her touch to by adding in nice little fills. matt just plays what buzz is playing on the albums he's on.
hes just not very inventive or interesting to listen to in any band he was in. obviously this is all a matter of preference.
no hard feelings mints.
