I'm with Klump on this one. I'm a little shocked that some of you seemed to be expecting another HAT. Basically I think the Melvins had to make an album like this so it would be a contrast to HAT and the upcoming Jello collab.

Personally I really like 'Pigs...', someone said it sounds like a cross between Honky and Single 1-12 and I agree. But I love Honky for its ambient moments and Singles for the noise so this CD is perfect for me. The difference is the noise is a lot more controlled and sounds more professional, I imagine this is because Lustmord is providing the noise instead of Buzz. And the filtered instument effects are used in a really creative way.

Did anyone else think some of the ambient stuff sounds like a jam? And some of the songs have ended up more like digital dubs?

I have never heard an album like this before and I'm thankful the Melvins have managed to once again amaze me with their versatility and creativity.

I'm really glad I got to read a few reviews so I'll know what to expect from this album. I admit, I'm more into the 'rocking out' Melvins rather than the noise/experimental side. But, at the same time, I do realize that the Melvins are all about throwing curveballs at the listener. That's just who they are and I can appreciate that. I do know for a fact that if I bought this album expecting the majority of the material to be similar to "The Bloated Pope", I would have been disappointed.

I'm just wondering what live shows are going to be since I doudt they'll have all of lustmords sounds and effects.

klump

i bet they are gonna be half record and half "regular" set. or maybe they are gonna just blast throught this album, with lustmord on a synth.

BRETT 3... what a faggot

Anyways... yes I am the prick of the board and take some pride in that because it seems many of you are holding back.

However.... Stag is my favourite Melvins CD, and I love electroretard, honky and crybaby. I listen to them still. And of course I know the Melvins throw curveballs... what do you take me for? I own every single album. They're are one of my favourite bands, definately.

Also, I do not hate this album.... it's good and all. Maybe I was too harsh (didn't feel any harsher than the review before me).

I was not expecting another HAT... it's just Like I said this album will unfortunatley be filled away with the others I mentioned.

I am still thankful for this release.... and hell we get another one soon. Can't wait!

Hey Gonzo, I didn't mean you regarding the HAT comment.

Hehe, the only song I've heard is The Bloated Pope. :D I don't know if I'm going to download it or not (either way, I'm definately buying it). But seeing as I love dark, experimental, ambient stuff, it sounds like I'm gonna like this record alot. :)

anaconda
