wtf does everyone have against jello?????

benton netty

i don't have anything against him, but i'd rather the melvins made an album with buzz singing.

LouiLoomis, you're right that the melvins do have a huge backlog of quote-unquote "real songs," but the problem is that i've heard them all a million times! i want NEW "real songs," at this point. i don't want noises. i want songs. or, howabout this? they can do "real" songs, only with the noises integrated into them.

it's just, three years without an album, and then this? what a joke.

and if making an album with non-songs is the "obvious" next step after making an album of "real songs," then you'd better inform every other band in the world of this practice, because they're all doing it wrong! :)

LOL, ok 'obvious' step for the Melvins.

Houdini then Prick

Bullhead then Lysol (Hung Bunny and Second Coming)

Stoner Witch then Stag then Honky

Crybaby then Colossus of Destiny

I hope someone understands what I'm trying to get at with this.  :(

i get what you're saying -- you're saying that they follow up a more "traditional" album with a more "experimental" one. and i think that this may be somewhat true. but there's been three years between HAT and this one, whereas with those other albums, there was very little time between them. for instance, houdini and stoner witch came out in successive years! and if you look at stoner witch, stag, and honky -- that's three albums in three years. and i'd argue that honky is a much, MUCH better album than pigs of the roman empire is. because it actually features the melvins playing actual compositions for most of it. i could argue the same about the crybaby, even -- that album has more melvins music on it than this one does.

i dunno. fuck lustmord, i say.

with their new album "pigs of the roman empire", the melvins have along with lustmord
painted an extremely colourful picture, and then erased the contours of the major areas,
making the picture looking like utter chaos. but after a few watches you fill in the dots yourself, and appreciate that you are free to do so. the melvins have again proved that they are the masters of suspense ,atmospheric and noisy music.
just because something is hard it doesnt mean its not worth doing...

Tony, why do you keep saying it's been 3 years since we got new Melvins? HAT came out in 2002. That's 2 years. Plus we got 26 Songs last year, the Neither Here Nor There book earlier this year, and when was the Salad Of A Thousand Delights released on DVD? It was just like a couple years ago. I don't see what your'e so upset about. The Jello album is coming soon, and I know you want to hear Buzz sing, but they've been mentioning a "remix" record, and a rerelease of The Mangled Demos for a while now. Hopefully those will come out next year.

LouiLoomis

Tony - I'm glad you understand what I was getting at. :D

Klump - You got it spot on!

Metalhead Cow - Good point

What does everyone think about Southern.com's comments about 'Pigs...' being the most 'Listener Friendly' album from the Melvins since Lysol?
I personally thought they were being sarcastic, but my girlfriend doesn't mind 'Pigs...' and she hates the Melvins. So what do you think?

oh, yeah, you're right. it was 2002. i was thinking it was 2001 for some reason. sorry.

but 26 songs, the book, and the salad DVD are all OLD shit -- i want new shit. and not new shit with jello biafra singing. and not old demos. and not remixes of old songs. i want a new melvins album featuring the melvins playing their actual compositions. i thought that lustmord would just be the noise element of this record (and "the bloated pope" seemed to confirm that), but he's really the star. and that sucks, because i don't see the point of what he does. it's literally just like listening to sound effects from a movie soundtrack out of context. there's no musicality to it. i guess i want to listen to music, not sound effects.

i suppose i really underestimated how much lustmord would have to do with this. i sure didn't think i'd have to listen to his bullshit for over half the album's running time, i know that much! :?

i dunno -- i can't make people see what i see, but i just listen to this album and i know that this kind of thing is not why i listen to this band. this is the first time i've ever felt cheated by them. if you hold this up next to HAT, stag, the maggot, stoner witch, bullhead, ozma, or lysol -- or virtually anything they've done -- it doesn't measure up.

You can tell buzz was really influienced by venemous concept and the new fantomas record. I dont like either of those though. Venemouc Concept blows ass and Delrium Cordia was a HUGE letdown.

Hopefully this will grow on me.

Thought it was interesting that Adam Jones was listed as a band member, not just guitar on such and such a track.

blag jesus himself

i think the only thing wrong with the album is the title track, which unfortuantely takes up 23 minutes of the albums length...even the part where the melvins actually start playing something over lustmords bullshit sucks, its a boring song and it should have been cut down to make room for more songs like safety third and toadi acceleratio and the bloated pope and well any other song on the album
