Listening to it more and I realize now it's excellent. My statements from my previous post were partly a result of mixed expectations on my part! I should know now not to expect things to be a certain way with the Melvins. The song's a grower, though. It has a cool "dark" intro with some great drumming. After that I was expecting something slow and sludgy in the vein of A History Of A Bad Men. Instead we get a slow "happy" almost bluesy kind of laid back groove. Not "Shevil" laid back, but in the vein of Billy Fish and the second part of Suicide In Progress.  It really gets good when the vocals kick in. The vocals on this track (and on The War On Wisdom) are excellent. The song gradually unfolds until the riffs get darker and more menacing, yet with the catchy vocal harmonies remaining intact, but sounding darker. And yeah, I definitely hear the resemblance with the "don't look down" part of Electric Flower. I'm looking forward to hearing how We Are Doomed flows into Friends Before Larry.

One other note-on the first couple of listens I found myself wishing that the guitar was more distorted. Then I realized that's part of the song's charm. It's heavy and menacing without heavy distortion and it works. I was thinking about Buzz's comment about these songs being "amazing with their calm intensity" and that statement really rings through to me with We Are Doomed. There's a calm intensity throughout the whole song. I think I get where Buzz is coming from.

In your case, it will probably be best heard performed live. Just like how I prefer Let It All Be live over the studio version from The Bootlicker.

I like both songs we have heard from this. Thank you Melvins for this freebie. You didn't have to do this and I want to say that I appreciate it and the work you put into it. Cannot wait for Freak Puke but I will...

i'm glad it's not 1 track of noise like COD.  That cd was awful.

rickdiculous

This EP definitely has the best vocal harmonies of any Melvins release.

Again,a gorgeous tragedy approaches,in the wake of those thought contained. But sonic reverberations shake the very marrow of the fragile chamber of mans lifeforce, and again the minions quiver in fear,as daylight fails to come, and Melvins walk the battlefield, bored and hungry...

COD/prick are great albums.

Yep. Anyone with an interest in experimental noise music and musique concrete would appreciate these albums.

I agree with both of you about those albums. I remember reading negative reviews on it and being warned by the chick that got me into Melvins that it is nothing but noise, though after I listened to it I loved it.
