I'm still waiting for my reggae inspired melvins album.
Best of both worlds, IMO.

I will assume that all agree... :)
Is Ian back yet??

If Melvin want to be relevant, they need to release a dub step album stat!

I know I am going to get reamed for this, but I do not get how everyone like the newer melvins stuff...they really lost me after Stoner Witch. Just seems like the Amrep stuff after Houdini was just awful..Prick is ok, but hated Stag..awful sold very quickly and I was a die hard fan then and Snivlem was pretty bad also. I just really prefer thier sludgy Boner records stuff, I like how they are trying new things but I find so much of so hard to listen to.I am going to see if the one one shows up on vinyl and then maybe buy it. I have heards parts of the new one, just seems too over produced and I hate to talk bad because I talked to them years ago at a show for Acid King and Altamont and they are really nice guys and Dale was such a cool person to talk to and they are very creative people.

Have you ever listened to albums like "The Maggot", "Hostile Ambient Takeover", "Pigs Of The Roman Empire", "The Bride Screamed Murder" or even "The Bulls & The Bees"?

If you don't, well... believe me when I tell you this: you're missing some great stuff. Is not that they've forgotten their sludge side, they actually expanded their horizons, bringing more styles and sounds to the grill than most of the other bands from the so called "grunge era" have done so far.
cartoons, chocolate milk & rock 'n' roll!!

Add the bootlicker to that list.

If there is any ONE record you have not heard from those mentioned above, I'd go with MAGGOT first.
Surely, sir, it will not let you down ....

Freak Puke : Still listening, still loving it. It's a goddammit masterpiece.
BUT, I have to say, this is still going to end up being my favorite song of the year

Melvins - We Are Doomed (2012)

Tommy Goes Beserk is a damn near runner up.

Oh, and JonEs pretty much nailed it. That's the exact reason why I love Melvins. They're fearless, and weird as hell - but never, ever hold out on the heavy.

I agree, nine minutes and 40 seconds of Melviny goodness.

Mabuhay_Ka must have been the one person who disliked the song!

It's a funny thing though, Melvins have been around long time we kind of forget about them as a whole.  The bigger picture.

I guess when you are first attracted to them or hear them, say in 1992, then fair enough if they evolve out of that sound, they pick up a different audience, change their style and you don't like any of their release any-more etc.. all because they are different to what they were in the late 80's and early 90's. That's OK. To me, I have certainly not liked all their releases, and it's only now that I realise that it is actually a good thing and they should never have to take any criticism for that.

We're not talking about Metallica here, who radically changed for the simple fact of making more money and changed their sound back because the fans demanded it! Melvins changed because Buzz and Dale wanted to challenge themselves, the band, their song-writing, their skills, the fans and while it has not come off every single release, they should be recognised and admired for this simple fact.

I personally do not like the vocal stylings these last few records, but again I understand Buzz is trying to do something different and new and I applaud him for taking this chance it even though my ears don't. Same goes with his new tone. I mean if he stuck with the same sounding guitar since Lysol, what's the point?

Besides, it makes the Boner stuff even better because you know no band or Melvins will ever tread that ground again making it even more special to listen to.

This is what I love about the Melvins - everyone loves their own little period, or every release, or just even Houdini.

Fascinating band, and to be pulling this off since the mid 80's without burning out, giving up, or writing 10 Houdini's in a row to make millions when Nirvana was booming - simply makes them one of the best bands out there to be quite frank.

This album is a different thing but Buzz and Dale plus Trevor or however it is just makes sense on so many levels. Sonically the twists and turns and usage of certain structural elements to get technical about it and like ex-post/ipso facto analyse the music enhances the experience but just to listen where the band gets like they say in workaholics tight asshole, and watch the silence get filled and watch the noise and sound and blends of multi sound fade to silence. This album is good for that. Of course when The Bootlicker is probably my second favorite Melvins album, this type of thing does automatically remind me of how 'shocking' but not like actual shocks just artistically decision-wise a little curious to go SO quiet AND clean YET STILL THEY WERE slow as hell AT TIMES (JBFH).
