Another great show.  I used my new camera tonight to film from the balcony. More on that later.  I'm working with a whole new beast, so getting settings right is going to take some time, but it appears I had the video down pretty well.  The audio on the other hand didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped.  I still have a lot to learn with it.  It's not bad, but I think I accidently recorded to the right speaker with the shotgun mic and the left speaker with the internal mic.  I'm going to try to get a clip up tonight, but Final Cut isn't cooperating with me.  Might have to wait until tomorrow afternoon.

As far as the show, it was a total sellout.  They even opened the balcony, and I've never seen that open before at the Hawthorne.  Same set as usual.  The crowd was very receptive to having Trevor on standup.  I heard a lot of people talking before about how they had a standup bass for the show and a lot of people didn't think it'd be a "heavy" show.  And everyone I heard talking afterwards talked about how damn good it was.

It appeared that they had sold out of the skullflowers shirts and only had the sugar daddy pig shirt left.

The Hawthorne has changed a lot over the years.  It used to be that everyone, from the security at the doors, to the bartenders were dicks.  Camera's were never allowed in, no matter what. I emailed the venue a few hours before the show tonight and asked if we could film and the manager got right back to me and said no problem.  That kind of service makes a guy want to go back to their venue.

And I don't think he's a boardie, but an awesome guy named Eric let me trade seats with him so I could be in the front of the balcony and film, and he deserves kudo's for being so fucking gracious about it.

So, the audio is off a little bit from the video, I'm not sure why.  New camera, new editing program.......I'll work out the bugs eventually.  The raw footage is fine, it's just the settings that I have to figure out.  But I figured I'd post this anyway.  Besides the small focusing problem, and the hard to miss audio mis-alignment, it's not to bad?

EDIT.   Now that I look at it on here in youtube, it looks worse than my old stuff :P  It's a settings issue, and I'll fix it eventually.  New equipment takes practice and time.

Hanz, was that you in the Red Fang shirt? I shouldn't have been shy and said hi. I was in a Pierced Arrows shirt at the front of the balcony for the first few songs with a friend and my dad - (bought his ticket for father's day).
Anyway, decent venue - hadn't been there before. Staff was really cool, good beer was reasonably priced. Sound was ten times better on the floor. I will certainly be back in September, 70 minutes of intensity. Retox - not my cup of tea at all, but I respect any group of kids that goes on tour with a rock band in this age in this economy.

Also melvins is gay cuz some of their songs are just noise, i tell you this so you all don't buy albums and find out only one two songs is good on them.

It was.  Hey, we've only been going to some of the same shows for the last 7 years or so   :P

I'll be there in September.

Agreed, great show!  Didn't much care for Retox, but you can't win em all.
I found a nice spot just behind the sound guy and since I'm pretty tall had a good view of the band (though I could only see Dale in bits and pieces).   After watching Trevor play, I can only imagine how large the calluses on his hands must be, he played like there was no tomorrow.  Pretty subdued but friendly crowd.

What did you guys think of the sound?  That's usually my biggest complaint about the Hawthorne.

When we recently seen them in London, my friend said to Dale at the end of the show "do you want to know the one thing i didn't like about the show?'" Dale says "No" Mike says "it's just that we can't see you, your hidden behind the drum kit" Dale kinda just chuckled , i was up front at all 3 shows i went to and could barley see him
I got the shits real bad.

Yea, the sound in the balcony was a bit mushy. I don't blame the band as they were nice n crisp in Bellingham the night before.

And the line for the men's room was murder. I have been talking with the venue manager and he says they hope to have another men's room by the time the September show, so that's good news for our bladders.

I got there at 10. How many songs did I miss? They were playing Mr. Rip Off when I walked in.

Just the fact he couldn't see Dale.
